Hi,
I'm new to the forum. Well strictly speaking I've been lurking in the shadows, admiring others work on here for ages. Now I think about it, I've probably lurked here for several years. Hmm, sounds a bit creepy when put like that. Best just stick to 'hey I'm new here' :D
Anyway, I'm currently building an Undead army, using mainly Mantic Miniatures Undead range, and thought that this would be a good time to stop lurking, and start interacting with you fine people. I'm building the army so that it is usable in several systems, though I'll mainly be playing Kings of War and Warhammer 3rd edition with it.
I've got the first couple of unist done, a horde of 40 Skeleton Warriors with spears, and a Balefire Catapult.
Picture below shows the first three bases of the skeleton horde

Picture below shows the Balefire Catapult - using it as a Screaming Skull Catapult in 3rd edition Warhammer

Picture below shows the skeleton horde (still needs a banner making for it).

I'll try and keep this thread updated with my progress.

blimey, they are nice... lovely muted colours

Beautiful work so far!
And welcome!

Welcome to the forum. I can see you will be fun to have around. Your army looks splendid. Great, clean style of painting without looking to playful.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but these look like multibases. Do you have individual models to take away for warhammer games? Or do you use some other markers to show how many skellies are left?
-
:-* Love them, really impressive. It's amazing how the yellow looks dirty yet bright at the same time.
-
Very slick painting! The shading is amazing. :-*
-
Nice paint jobs!! Welcome aboard.
-
Very good use of colours- The green and mustard was inspired- muted and grubby, while neatly pianted and in theme. Well done!
-
Welcome out of the shadows! Lovely painting, by the way. I've had a go at these as well but that lovely yellow on the shields knocks mine into a cocked hat.
-
Very nice indeedy!
-
Very nice work. I think it beats the stuff on the mantic website!!
-
Very nice painting and an impressing horde!

Thank you for the welcome and compliments :)

You're not wrong. They are on 40mm square multibases. I haven't decided what to do for Warhammer 3rd edition yet. I'll have to make some casualty markers for Kings of War, so I might go that route.

Wow what a beautiful painting and cool minis too!! congratulations :-* :-* :-*

That horde is brill! :o 8) You must be very dedicated to paint at that level on soooo many models! How long did it take to paint that unit?
Lovely work!
-
Thanks for your comments and welcome :)
Andym - I'm not sure how long they took me. I'll keep track of the painting time with the next horde I do.
-
:o :o :o
That is one fantastic looking horde of skellies.
I did not realise that the Mantic stuff was so good.
Beautiful paintjobs and great basing combined to wonderful effect.
:-* :-* :-*

Those are BEAUTIFULLY DONE...I love the colors you chose & your brushwork & basing are SUPERB. I for one am looking forward to the evolution of the Army.
-
Really nice!
For some reason I can see the RBG wraith knights making good champions.

Thanks guys :)
Andrew May - I came across those a couple of days ago. They are beautiful and they're on my shopping list.
Mason - Mantic's Undead range is very nice. I also like the aesthetics of Mantic's Elves. I like the fact that they don't have a normal anatomy. It makes them look more otherworldly. The only thing I would like to change is their spears. I wish that they had proper spears, or at least proper spear tips. I bought a box of them and painted one up in darker colours, the way I imagined they should look. Here is how it turned out:

Then I added wings:

Now I have an entire elf army waiting to be assembled and painted. They won't all have wings though. Only a couple of small units will have wings.
Just a quick picture to remind people how small the elves actually are.

I can't comment on the Orcs, Dwarves or Goblins, as I don't own any.

The undead are stunning and your elves are the best example I have seen :-* :-* :-* :-*
-
Elves with wings??? I shudder, yet cannot deny the fact that they look really great. Did you paint those wings yourself? They look awesome.
-
Interesting. What are the wings made of?
-
They look awesome with wings!
-
Thanks chaps :)
Doomhippie - lol lol lol at you shuddering, yet still thinking they look good. I made the wings myself.
Andrew May - I've been asked to put a tutorial together showing how I make them. I'll post that here once it's done.
-
I love the Mantic Elves & what you're doing with them...particularly the butterfly wings. They have a Faerie Kingdom/Sidhe look to them, which is how I generally think of Elves. VERY WELL DONE!
-
fantastic :-*
-
Very nice undead...cracking job :-*
-
Amazing job, here :-* :o
-
Thanks chaps :)

Well, I'm a Tolkien addict, so elves aren't really faeries for me.
However, I do see the mythologogical connection. And, what is more important, I do appreciate the craftmanship of your models, both in idea and execution. That's why I like it (despite/because of the wings... Ah, but two hearts are beating in my chest).

Another call for a how-to on the wings here.
