As my gaming buddies have resurrected Warmaster recently I am making one of my rare forays into fantasy miniatures. This time its 10mm Orcs & Goblins and I need some advice.
I am looking for a miniature that would look good as a giant alongside my 10mm guys. It can be a 25/28mm figure assuming that it doesnt have anything that would betray its original scale. The issue is that I dont want a classic human looking giant. I am looking for a giant with troll like characteristics. If you have seen the film "Trollhunter" then you will have a fair idea of what I mean.

Troll-like features and posture are important. Clothes beyond maybe a loin cloth are not desirable.
I am not terribly au fait with fantasy miniature ranges so any ideas that you guys might have would be very helpful.
Thanks in advance!

Pendraken makes a giant (in 10mm) that should work pretty well:

I'll see if I can find a painted version of this to give you a better idea what it looks like 'on the table'...
[Edit to add: Here we go, I knew there were some on Pandraken's forum:

Come to think of it - if you want something 'to scale' (by which I mean something that towers over a Land Rover like the troll in that first image) you should really be looking for hairy trolls in the 25mm range. As a committed 10mm gamer, I've poked around and seen a lot of guys have a lot of success mixing and matching scales for things like giant skeletons and animals and such.

you might try the trolls from warploque minis- they're 28mm trolls (appropriate for 40mm bases) so should be right for the size in 10mm of the troll from that last scene in Trollhunter.

Good decision there, Paul! Fantasy is the way to go, and you know it! ;)
The Warploque figs look really nice, and it's a good cause supporting him as an up and coming young sculptor.
If those aren't to your liking, I'd like to add my (usual) tip: the old Metal Magic giants now sold by by Splintered Lights:

I did a comparison somewhere... they're rather large, but not overly so. Not as large or massive as the old Marauder giant.

Those figures are very much the style that I am looking for. The grassy shoulders and Brian Froud like face are exactly what I am after.
Those Warploque figures look quite large though. If thats a 40mm base that its on then it will be a little too big to mount on a 20x40mm base as used in Warmaster as illustrated by this GW giant...

Very tempting though. Great suggestion, thanks.

Its the vaguely fairy tale look of the Trollhunter trolls that I am after, rather than the kaiju like dimensions. With that in mind the Pendraken figure shown looks very suitable, if maybe a little on the short side. Its also pretty hard to argue with a £1.75 price tag.

The paint job shown isnt great, but thats irrelevant. The figure doesnt look much bigger than the Copplestone trolls that I have lined up though.

We shall see. Although I am surrounding myself in LotR movies and rulebooks full of guys in chariots at the moment, I bet that it wont last. It will be robots and spaceships again before you know it. Which is why I need to buy and paint a giant soon, before I get distracted by something else :)

Im not getting a sense of scale from those photos, but wasnt the old Marauder giant huge? Like 15-20cm tall or something? I am looking for something roughly 25-30mm in height.
Great suggestions there, thanks all.
In summation, the Warploque guys look a little too big, the Pendraken guy might be a fraction too small and I cant work out how big the Splintered Light/Metal Magic figures are lol
If anyone has any other suggestions and possibly even comparison shots then that would be great. Thanks for the help so far.

Bah, you're a picky one aren't you? =) I found my old comparison thread:

I think the base the giants are on, over at Splintered Lights, is the base size giants have in HOTT. I don't know... 40mm frontage, 60 mm deep...age? =)
I suspect they'll be too tall.
