I picked this up back in December 2007, about 5.5 years ago... That's actually not all that old compared to a lot of the unpainted figs I have waiting for me to put some time into them :)
Check out more pictures here: Moria Gallery (http://www.hourofwolves.org/?view=armies&which=goblins&thumbs=1)

:o :o :o
I have that figure too, but haven't summoned the courage to do it yet. I don't know how you did it, but it is fantastic. Care to share any pointers???
Thanks for sharing.

Hitman, I guess the secret lies in actually base coloring the model white so the flames are really bright. You paint the black of the skin on top of that.

That looks fantastic.

Back for a second look and equally as impressed as I was yesterday. :D

That's almost is exactly, but I primed it black first, then primed only the cracks/fire white. The steps for painting the fig were:
1) Paint the whole thing black
2) Paint the flames, cracks, mouth, eyes, and everywhere with flames with a white undercoat
3) Note that fire highlighting is reverse to normal: you go from light in the lower parts to dark on the higher parts; basically what happens is the fire/magma cools as it gets away from the body, so it darkens as it cools.
4) Fire highlight scheme: ivory->yellow->light orange->dark orange->red->red brown->black
5) Fix the shape of the cracks; the cracks on the wings actually aren't sculpted on and were basically freehand... It made for a lot of fixing and making smooth edges.
6) And finally, I slacked off an highlighted the wings by drybrushing a couple of successively lighter shades of gray.
Thanks again for all the feedback, appreciated!

That's looks very good. It is the sort of motivation that might bring me to restoring the Balrog form the old Citadel boxed set from somewhere in 86 or 87 it was. And perhaps while at it i paint Gandalf, Boromir and Aragorn too. Lovely.

Neldoreth;
Thanks a lot for the painting tips...I will definitely give it a try.

Did a great figure justice here.

Love it! Especially the flames.

This came out great, you should show some of your other works when you finish them!
-
Amazing work, I especially like the fire effects. I wish I have an ounce of your talent!
Cheers

It looks great. :-* For how much did you get it? To me, the new, completely plastic version seems a little expensive at €50.

Absoultely awesome! :-*
