Some of my gaming crew dug out their old Warmaster armies recently, so I decided to keep up with the Jonses and dip my toe into fantasy miniature painting for the second time this century.
For starters I am concentrating on Orcs & Goblins. Units are based in two ranks on 40 x 20mm bases as per Warmaster standard. Warmaster characters dont really exist as a footprint in game so they can be based any way desired. I put mine on 25mm diameter tiddlywinks to match the bases in the Battle of Five Armies game.
The first bits finished are two units of goblins, a unit of war trolls and a goblin shaman. I have a unit of orcs nearly ready for basing and numerous other orc and gobin bits at various stages in the process. There are links to the blog posts with further info regarding each unit if anyone is interested.
I am struggling a little to get alright photos of these guys, so the shots are not up to my usual slightly dodgy standards.

A couple of shots for comparison purposes for those unfamiliar with miniatures in this scale.

As always, comments and criticisms all happily received :)

Great painting on such small pieces.Love the Orc's and how you have done the skin.
-
Very nicely done, Warmaster armies always look impressive. I think the close packed units look great.
Don't forget the excellent Kallistra Hordes and Heroes range also. Loads of fantasy types including some superb monsters, plus historics and a range of siege equipment.

Very nice indeedy!

Nice stuff mate, really like the trolls! Are they official Warmaster figs?

Thanks. The goblin skin is a mid green, followed by a Warpaints Strong Tone (thats my new Devlan Mud substitute) and simple edge highlights in a bright yellow green on some guys and a whiteish green on others, just to get some variety in the look.
I am still not sure if it is too subtle for such small figures on a gaming table, but it pleases me to do it anyway.

Thanks.
I have a few bits from Kallistra lined up :) I also have some Pendraken bits (which are apparently identical to Kallistra models except Kallistra are on strips and Pendraken are individual?) and some Warmaster bits to go with the Copplestone and Battle of Five Armies stuff. Nice and varied and hopefully not too many disruptive scale issues.
Siege equipment is something that I have yet to properly consider. I do have an assembled Warmaster siege tower that I picked up in a lot a few years ago, so its really a matter of "when" I suppose.
Very nice indeedy!
Thank you. Plenty more to come.

Thanks phreedh, Im glad that you approve.
The trolls are Copplestone War Trolls and very nice they are too. Very large as 10mm trolls go, but I love the dopey, slack jawed expressions.

Seriously bloody nice.

That would be good painting at 28mm scale so at 10mm scale that is great!!!

Thanks for the kind words up to now guys :)
I managed to get a fair bit done in the last week or so, despite real life being particularly difficult. Go me ;)
I also managed to get my first game with these guys in last Friday. My group has decided to use Kings of War as our system of choice for the time being. My first game of it was fun and didnt require endless fluting around with rulebooks, so thats definitely a positive start.
On with the miniatures:

There are a couple more photos on my blog (http://sho3box.wordpress.com/2012/07/19/lots-more-10mm-fantasy/) if anyone is interested.
More orcs next on the workbench I think, possibly followed by some black orcs.
If anyone has any questions then shout. Comments and criticisms all gratefully received :)

I love the skin on the fell beast. Well done.

Thanks. Trying to keep it looking dark while still getting some contrast with the rider was a challenge and the finish is a little rougher than I like, but I am reasonably satisfied with it.
I will use a different approach when painting the wyvern at a later date though.

I got a chance to take a group shot today. I am pleased with my progress considering none of the models had been touched before this month. Not bad for me :)

Looks quite impressive. Each unit is a small piece of art, while they tie together very well. Hopefully there's further progress, I'll keep following with interest. :)

Lurvely stuff, cheet! And fast too! :o

Thanks for the encouragement guys.
I got Saruman finished this evening. Out of this project, I think that this is the figure that I most enjoyed painting to date :)
There is a rear shot and a close up on my blog (http://sho3box.wordpress.com/2012/07/24/10mm-saruman-the-white/) for any interested.
Another unit up next I reckon. Probably either orcs or black orcs.

:D
My wife said something very similar when she saw the figure.

Very nice job!

Love the stonethrower and the painting is lovely throughout - brilliant stuff.
Bet Saruman feels a right spanner with that staff! ;)

Thanks for the kind feedback guys :)

You know, after Saruman my favourite part of this project so far has been the troll powering the stone thrower, but you are the only person to have mentioned it. I was beginning to think that it was just me. I love that guy with his Muppet monster face.

I never torque that joke would catch on, but here we are.
Some orc grunts up next. Probably.

Maybe you need to ratchet up the level of humour around here... ;)
sorry, that was a bad one!

I got a few bases of hobgoblin (or "sniff" in KoW parlance ??? ) wolf riders finished recently, plus I added a few more mounted characters. The photos could be a little bit better, but c'est la vie.
