Title: Looking for a model Roman ship
Post by: Froggy the Great on 11 July 2012, 08:44:16 PM
Now that I've made my VSF Roman army, I need transport for it.  To that end, I'm looking for a model trireme/bireme/whatever that's got deck area for about 10-20 figures on US pennies, and is still small enough that I can transport it.  This probably means 12-16" long.

Anyone have recommendations?  I'm also trying to not break the bank on this, as I do want to afford the new Hinterland releases one of these months.

Grand Manner do a resin bireme:

but being resin they will be heavy and might cost a lot to get across the pond.

There are (or were) plastic kits of biremes (and possibly triremes).
Aurora and Heller had a bireme:

Not sure about others.

You might take a look at the Playmobil Roman Gallery.  With some modifications to the ship's details (rails, etc), the hull will probably work just fine.  I think Amazon has it for about $46.

If you want cheaper there's also the old Academy model still available.

Amazon has them for $26 US.

It's on the smallish size but 13" long and could be modified easily since it's a plastic kit.

Thank you very much - one of these might just be a winner!
