Title: German and French Wargame pharases
Post by: wkeyser on 14 July 2012, 07:49:49 AM
Hi
I am having some counters made for my 1870 project, but need some help in translation, I ran, shaken, waver, and rout through Google translator but it is the context that I need help with.

So if those of you with language skills could help with which words in French and German to use for these wargamer phrases I would appreciate it.
Thanks

Here is a link to show the samples of counters made by Noel

This is what I have come up with would love to see what you guys think.

German
Shaken -Bestürzt
Waver -Wanken or Zaudern
Rout -Flucht

French
Shaken- Choqué
Waver -Hésiter  or Indécis
Rout -Déroute or Renverser

My german suggestions:

Shaken -erschüttert (might be too strong, but depends on what you want to say)
Waver -Zaudern (perhaps a bit old fashioned, but perfect for 1870)
Rout -Flucht ...yes!

Cheers,
DV

For the French I would use

Shaken = Ébranlé (which have a emotive connotation)
Waver = I think both suggestion are good but Hésitant would be better IMHO
Rout = Dérouté is the better option

"Dérouté" hasn't a military connotation and would be more akin to "lost". IMHO "En déroute" would be better  ;)
