A project I have had on the back burner for some years is the little known Invasion of Domestos. This is a Greek island that seldom appears on maps, but in 1943 is occupied by Italian troops. It is invaded by Commonwealth forces and the Italians reinforced then by German paras. Amphibious assault, airborne landings, colourful settings and no sign of a Tiger or a JS3 to dominate the battlefield.
I have recently mentioned this project to a couple of chums on LAf and it occurred I might post a few pics of the scenery I have been assembling. Some of it although never used has already suffered damage in storage (the ridge tiles on the chapel! How does that happen? It is in various stages of finish from done to needing painting but anyway here is a sample of the architecture on Domestos.

Lots of work still to do but this is a long term project so I am happy so far.

nice work and very handy for a scenario based around Mama Mia! :D
-
Thses look good too.
I assume that an invading power could hold to ransom every toilet in the world?
Unless they were invaded by germs, they have the power to destroy those troops, of course, but that surviving 1% would be the meanest and hardest!
-
I think I holidayed there once, I recall the sun bleaching my hair ;)
-
Winning troops have the right to be flushed with success.
Losers may only have had a flash in the pan.
Easy for tanks to be slowed down by the bogs.
-
Those are some fine terrain pieces you have constructed there. :-*
They look like they will be very fun to game with. :D
-
Lovely stuff. I'm sure I've been there too. There was a Toilet DUKW outside the Museum in Harpiq.
Is it true that the American contingent was led by a Loo-tenant?
-
Typo there? Surely loo-sers is what you meant?
Some LAFfers might think we were well round the U-bend on this J!
U-bends have always been a conundrum for me - I just cant get my head around them

Domestos, a holiday destination available at your convenience.

When you open a toilet door, you water closet after you.................. lol
-
Apologies to anyone reading this thread and appalled by the awful puns. :'(
They kill 99% of all threads ... dead!
-
But the strong and resistant 1% survive to haunt you....................

Really great idea there, just sad it is not in 28mm...I have books and articles on Leros but not on this Island can you tell me where to find history on it?
I know some vehicles were used on Leros there are pictures of a Pz IV apparently on Leros and English trucks being unloaded from landing craft looking boats, also what looks like a staff car of some sort.
It is great to have info on exactly what vehicles were available on the Islands so we can have correct games or realistic ones, of course the Islands are not a very liked subject due to the Allied misfortunes there, still quite good material to have games on!

Gothic Line: Domestos is not a real island, over here it is a bleach product used to clean toilets.....
-
Nice work Bezzo!!! Can't think of a pun, though the book I'm reading at the moment is very good........ ;)
-
I like those, the taverna especially. Nice work Bezzo.
Now if you tire of 1943, you could populate with your island with holidaying 20 sumfink British yoof and have a friendly power pour naval gunfire into the local discotheque or raid the place with special forces. Could be a fun project, you would only need a limited palette for the holidaymakers skin tones. Bright orange, scarlet and the occasional mahogany sideboard coloured individual would see you right.

Great work on the Buildings. The rest thanks for the puns I had a great laugh as I went along.
-
No, your link has not worked, must have had a virus that has been disinfected. lol

One second too late!!!!!!

I have those failed ideas that I just pour down the drain.

I can understand the confusion, I don't know whether Domestos is sold in Portugal but I can't recall ever seeing it in Brazil. Most of their other cleaning products like Omo, Surf, Comfort etc do appear on supermarket shelves.
I suspect they've avoided marketing Domestos as such because the name bears a similarity to 'domestica' the person most likely to be using the stuff in any well off household. No simple housewife wants to be reminded of the fact and no maid wants to be equated with a bottle of of bleach.
Even in Australia, more often than not, my wife gives me shopping instructions in Portuguese and on occasion by brand name, so I have to equate 'Bombril' with steel wool
and perform other acts of mental gymnastics in various aisles of my local supermarket.
