I guess most people here know (and admire) Tre's work. Here's his first Kickstarter campaign:

The aim is to get the HelsVakt Hordesmen cast in Trollforge resign:

The aim is to get the HelsVakt Hordesmen cast in Trollforge resign:
That would be Trollforged PLASTIC RESIN (which is like finecast only without ALL the floors (e.g its not brittle, doesn't melt (even put in the oven) has little to no casting defects (I had one little bubble underneath the groin) and wont cost you even half as much as Finecast (Tre is putting his prices DOWN after getting cast in Troll forged as opposed to GW's price rise right after Finecast)).

I'm in ... Tres work is sublime.

I do love his sculpts. What i dont like though is the size. Will these be on a slightly larger scale to fit more appropriately to other ranges out there? Would love to get the Dwarves. But too many times i have seen comments on there smaller size.
Thanks :-)

They scale up a LOT better than most people would think, if you're going for the GW LoTR, Hasslefree, Thunderbolt Mountain sized dwarves. If you're going for the GW Fantasy, etc... they're definitely going to be too small.

http://azazelx.wordpress.com/2011/08/20/red-box-games-size-comparisons-with-gw-lord-of-the-rings-figures/ (RBG size comparison directly with GW LoTR minis, including dwarves, that look to be dead on. At least a couple of these are the older ones, which tended to be taller than the current line)
Both of the top links have a couple of size comparisons in them, scroll down to find. The dwarves are supposed to scale up with Hasslefree really well. In fact Tre has mentioned that he specifically sculpts them to line up with the Hasslefree dwarves. So, his older stuff lines up with their older, etc... One of the guys used in some of the size comparisons is actually one of his Shirelings (A halfling), so is supposed to be significantly smaller than the dwarves. The style differences likely has something to do with that.
Lifted from the Red Box Games site is Tre's breakdown on heights of miniatures:
humans.......................32-36mm tall
elves ..........................28-30mm tall
half elves....................30-32mm tall
dwarves......................22-26mm tall ( believe it or nto this is how tall the original dwarves were also )
shirelings....................18-22mm tall
goblins........................20-26mm tall
trolls...........................45-54mm tall
orcs............................30-38mm tall
There's been a lot of debate about the height of the dwarves, even on his site, so, if that's going to stop you, I can't say that I blame you. It's really going to come down to what size dwarves you're looking for.
Yeah, I'll admit, I'm pretty excited about this Kickstarter. The material appears to give much better crispness of detail than pewter, which makes me excited. The sculpts are gorgeous, and Tre is, in my opinion, one of the best sculptors around.

I've even read that the Mantic dwarf stuff lines up well with his
I very much doubt the truth of whomevber wrote that because Mantic plastics are bigger than GW dwarves and the metal ones I have (beserkers) are closer to reaper minis in scale... both of which are MASSES bigger than GW LOTR.
I think that is that I would just remember them as if I were you 25mm realistically proportioned dwarves, not a good match for any current plastic company out there (though I don't know about thoe grenadier ones? currently sold very cheap by EM-4, though buying trers fantastic scullpts to put next to those mono-sculpt figures would be wrong!).

Oof. I did some digging, and you're dead on with most of it. I'll be adjusting my original post.
Thanks for the reality call!

Gorgeous sculpts and if I was a fantasy player I would be all over them for sure
-
Already in. He's reached his initial goal in just 2 days.
-
I really love his sculpts but for me the HelsVakt are the least interesting of his models - they look too much like the usual chaos knights to me. Still way better sculptured.
-
I prefer the work he has done for Reaper. While Red Box Games are great figures, they are rather small and full of tiny details… and kind of expensive too especially considering their size :?

Have to second that, they are also to me the least attractive minis from Red Box.
Though they remind me more on those Vikings from the "Pathfinder" movie ;)

I prefer the finer detail to the cartoony work he was doing for Reaper. The again, I think most of the work he was doing there is a bit Warhammer for me (and, I'm a fan of GW's work, I just wish so many people hadn't started copying it) and what he's doing now is very old school fantasy. Which is what he's shooting for...
Also, it's interesting to note that this project is designed to consistently bring his prices DOWN, with what seems to be a nicer material.

Tre has now updated the stretch goals, and it's looking good!
-
10 days left and even more sketches and miniatures added!
-
Getting closer! Just a few days left!!

New WIPs and "only" 10k from the undead horde! http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1103158358/red-box-games-helsvakt-horde/posts (http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1103158358/red-box-games-helsvakt-horde/posts)

His zombies are, bar none, the nicest zombie sculpts I've ever seen. I would LOVE to snag another dozen or so.
-
Totally agree, with a little luck and some more backers we might get them. So open your wallets so we all can get some zombies ;D
-
Gah! Payday is Thursday! Please extend it by a day? :(

I think Kickstarter doesn't allow those types of modifications.... :-(
-
Yeah, I know... I'm just lamenting not getting on this earlier.

You dont need money right away to pledge do you?

You dont need money right away to pledge do you?
When you pledge you go to Amazon and authorize the payment on your CC. The pledge amount will be charged hen the drive end.
The listed date and time for that is:
August 15th at 6:52pm EDT
Whether the computers spring into action at exactly that instant I don't know.
-
Amazon will try and take the payment straight away. If for any reason the payment fails, wrong card details, no funds etc, you have 7 days to rectify the problem. After that your pledge will be cancelled.
Great looking sculpts, I'm just not sure how the zombies would scale with Mantic's zombies. I'm guessing quite well, as Mantic's zombies aren't as large as GW's figures. Hmm, if the zombies were already a sure thing I'd back this. But I can't justify putting $145 down and then find out that I have to choose from a load of miniatures I don't want.
Edit: I'll be watching it closely though.

They don't scale with Mantics zombies at all. Mantic's zombies are gigantic. They tower over most other zombies I've ever found, with the possible exception of Enigma Miniatures work.

New update with WIP and concept arts on conradt and HelsVakt Cavalry! http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1103158358/red-box-games-helsvakt-horde/posts (http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1103158358/red-box-games-helsvakt-horde/posts)

1852 EDT on 15AUG12? Hmm, I'm at +10 GMT, EDT is -4 GMT... By my count that will be 0852 in my timezone when it is funded... Nearly 9 hours after my pay gets processed. Not even cutting it fine lol
-
Time to get those spending trousers (swedish saying) and get us some cavalry!!!
-
You mean: straight away on the date of the funding.
I did the Mantic Kickstarter, which finished on a Sunday, and my bank account showed that the transaction was put through within minutes of it finishing.

That's a shame, I really like the look of them and it would have been nice to mix some into my Undead army.

Yeah, I wish they'd work for you. They really are stunning sculpts.

Up over $40 Grand and closing in on the Zombie Ranks! Woo Hoo! :-*
-
I did my part! Not long now...
-
yeah, just over 2300$ until free zombies for me ;D
-
Only 71 hours to go! :o
-
/Sigh
There's $200 I won't be spending on food this month.

Shoeless and Starving! lol
(Well worth it though!)
-
Pledged yesterday after the zombies became available. I wish the Reaper Bones project allowed a better division of sculpt types for backers to choose from. Ergo, you get my money Mr. Manor...
-
Make it $208... I can't resist that exclusive kit.
-
Last 13 hours!
Coming up on the 4th horseman stretch goal and a new character (w. two poses) as the $70,000 goal!
IIRC this last character is free if your pledge is high enough. I'm going to add a few ranks to my pledge to try and boost the total even just a wee bit...
-
I did too. Morgrimn is pretty damn cool!
-
Just added another $80 to mine, 5 of those riders will be mine!
So I've got the $185 level, $80 for 5 horsemen, $8 for Svetlana and $15 for postage... That's all the money I can drop on this one!
-
A bit more than 8 hours left! Get yourself a big bag of cool minis!

At the 185 level you get 10 characters, but some of those characters you are getting free already, freeing up slots you can use 2-for-1 to convert to ranks...
-
4 hours left, still need $1400 to make that last stretch!
-
Well, it's averaging $852 per hour so far today. So at that rate it should make another $2608.
Here's hoping! :)
-
New stretch goal is coming!!!
-
New stretch goal is coming!!!
Yes - Red Olga, if it makes $75000....
-
Olga's funded...next up: Dire Wolves, but less than 100 minutes left....
-
Holy hell :o
It just jumped $800 in the 15 minutes it took me to get ready for work.
-
I'm in!
This looks to be the year of spending money on kickstarters.. this was the 4th, reaper will probably be the fifth.. Looking forward to receiving lots of "surprise" packages next year :D
-
Just made it to $80k. I'll be happy with those Direwolves thankyou very much.
-
Yup. I had to up my pledge by a rank to cover the Dire Wolves, just so I wouldn't have re-figure what I wanted otherwise. 8)
-
Just filled out my survey, so now all that is left is the painful waiting for my all my new toys to arrive! :D
Sometime in October, maybe! :(
-
Well just finalised my survey. Two of each of the ranks and one of each character, except for 2 each of Olga, Svetlana and Fenris :)
-
How did I miss this? :(
-
Where you been hiding man?
Tre is allowing people to up their pledge through the survey process, so if you can find someone who hasn't completed it yet they could add some stuff in for you?
-
How did I miss this? :(
Email Tre...he might be willing to take late-comers...
-
He may well - he seems like a very nice fellow. Certainly a talented one.
Kickstarter is interesting - opportunities for large and small companies alike. I have several indiego (sp?) and Kickstarter projects I have kicked in on (including this one of Tre's). No toys from any of them yet, though (nor should I, at this point).
