Title: Strange aeons 15mm
Post by: Relic on 19 July 2012, 06:49:25 AM
Hi,

I finally motivated myself to paint SA miniatures and faced one of my greatest fears...painting skin!

I have never mastered painting skin even though I've watched dozens of tutorials etc. Well anyway, I tried yesterday and one figure went to the stripping pile and here's the other one.

I am quite satisfied but..

I will keep this as my motivational blog for painting the Treshold and Lurkers :). I will write a little indepth stories to my blog also.

Thanks for watching

Next the clothing

Hi there Mo!

And thanks. Need to figure out the rest of the colors for it. I always have problems figuring out the palette..

You may fear painting skin - but you can obviously do it well!

Can't wait to see this one finished; I sculpted it, and it always gives me a buzz to see 'my' figures painted up, as I usually only see the original green.  ;)

Thank you Lovejoy ! Great sculpt you have made! Now you gave me extra pressure on finishing it :P

Skin is hard and I still can't make a decent caucasian skin imo. I painted some more and here is a picture of the minis current state.

Bad lightning unfortunately. I will take a better one after I paint some more

Some more progression. I think I blew the whole thing by now by black washing the grey coat. I diluted well the black wash before applying but I don't like the look.

Any tips how to wash grey? And how to highlight capes and coats ? I usually always wash the capes to get shadows to it... The better way is layering isn't it :)

Oh well.. Live and learn..

Still need to paint the tie, weapons, gloves & boots. I will go to the cottage for a week so this needs to wait unless I wake up early and finish it before I leave.

A while ago I made scratch built 15mm coffins for my Strange Aeons gaming. Here they are painted up.

I painted them in different wooden color schemes and the one in stone (with elder sign). I also washed the stone one with olive green/brown to weather it a bit. The other ones could use some washing also but I'm pleased to them as they are for now.

I quite like the grey coat!

Your coffins are great, you've given me a few ideas there.

Nice work, Relic, really nice!
 :-*

Your Greatcoat fella (Threshold agent or Bad guy? Works well for both!) is progressing nicely, and those coffins are excellent. Well done!
 ;D

I am suprised to see you doing SA, as it was you that I bought my first SA stuff from. Have you changed your mind, or was it just the scale?

I had two of each book :D

And thank you. I haven't painted the treshold agent for a long time since I got side tracked by epic.... BUT I will finish this guy during this week and post a pic after that :)

How's your SA projects going?

My SA project has gathered a life all of its own.
I did not expect to be doing it for this long, I thought that I would dabble for a couple of months before moving on (nearly six months now!).

Love those coffins of yours, may have to 'borrow' that idea!

well my projects tend to start living their own lives too... and I just can't focus enough to finish one project.. I always have too many going on :P.

If you want I can cast some of those coffins to you at cost price.

Thanks very much for the offer, but you have it, I am doing 28mm.
So many more options that way, and easier on my eyes, too!

Those Fenris offerings do look good.
Thanks for the tip!
