I found it moving as well, rather to my surprise

Very nice.
I saw a lot of soviet-era WWII memorials in Belarus and find I really appreciate the aesthetic

The Treptower Park memorial in Berlin is very impressive, too.
This is just a picture of one of the statues: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/a/a1/Soviet_Cenotaph_Berlin_Treptower_Park.JPG
Maybe you can visit next time. :)
Best Regards

Certainly looks worth a visit
We were on a whistle stop tour of Germany so did not get that much time in any one place. One of the places we would like to get back to for a few days is Berlin. I also really liked Dresden. :)
