I must admit, this is quite the collection you have got there, good sir ;)
I'm pretty sure it's unique in it's range and completeness, and the painting quality is top-notch as well! May I suggest that you never sell it off no matter what, this is really something of a lifetime achievement and I could really imagine wandering past the cupboard it's stored on and admiring it for a few minutes every now and then :-*
I actually have these three guys (?) as original Kenner action figure from the original RotJ line:

Oh, and this one here is clearly influenced by a Dark Young of Shub-Niggurath!

Very impressive work. That is some obsession you have going on there!
-
I've done over 600 miniatures. Yeah, that many!! Took me over 7 years and am still doing it now, today. Not all of those are custom sculpts though. Most are repaints of Wizard of the Coast miniatures. I did paint all 154 of the West End Games miniatures, all 20 of the metal Wizards of the Coast miniatures, Rebel Storm, Clone Strike, Revenge of the Sith, Universe, and 15 Champions of the Force miniatures, as well as 120 or so custom miniatures. WOW, I just realized I have no life :D
-
Fear not, as your obsession is still not as severe as those Zombie lovers who aim at having a horde of 1000 different Zombies :D
-
Great collection!

What a wonderful collection.
So very cool.
Thanks for sharing.

Ah, but the zombies don't have to match an original, and all that blood and dirt means there are easy painting short-cuts; whereas Max Rebo has to look like Max Rebo, and be painted properly. So this is much more work! My Doctor Who projects have so far amounted to only about 300 figures, but I can understand the commitment.
Sadly, my computer hates Blogspot (my previous computer hated WordPress and Tumblr, so I suppose it evens out), so I can't see any of the pictures except those that Cherno has kindly reposted here. Any chance that you could repost some choice examples yourself, Scotty?
-
Thanks so much for the kind words guys, it's really appreciated.
The funny thing is I didn't start posting pics until 2 days ago. I just couldn't get the hang of taking pictures. Thanks to Agis Neugebauer for giving me some great tips.
I'll try to post some pics directly to this site. I've been pretty unsuccessful in doing that for some reason. I'll take more pics today so stay tuned. ;)
-
I tried to post some pics directly to the site without any success. Hey guys, if you could help me out, feel free to post pics all you want. :D

Fair enough, it's indeed another level of attention to detail required for figures that have a definitive reference.

Dunno about the image issue, maybe using another browser for Blogspot would help ???

Thanks, but I've tried three. My brother the IT bod reckons its my anti-virus software, so I might risk mucking about with the preferences if I get frustrated enough.
-
lovely stuff, some of those 25mm ones I've never seen before, are they WEG or custom jobs?
-
An incredible collection of minis there, wow.
Duncan
-
Wow!!! You have some amazing figures. The conversions are terrific. I love that you've made so many conversions that match the 25mm WEG miniatures.
-
This is stunning. Congratulations. My favorite is the Jawa spy popping out of the droid shell.
-

A lot of them are either conversions or full sculpts. Like I've said before the pics I've taken are just a drop in the bucket when compared to 600 miniatures I've done. I just finished both Sith Troopers from the Champions of the Force set. I'll try to take some more pics today.
-
Just updated with several 25mm customs. Tell me what you think.
-
Very nice! I noticed the picture of your character from the WEG Star Wars RPG. Isn't that the original Mace Windu from one of the West End Games modules?

Good eye!! Yes, a squib named Mace Windu was in the Mos Eisley Adventure set. It is a miniature boxed set with several miniatures, a map, and some standup cards.
-
That's where I saw him! I got that box set way late in the game, about ten years ago when the WEG stuff was just starting to become difficult to find.
So what was the most difficult WEG mini for you to find?

Well it took me a few years to complete the set. I believe there are 154 different minis. Without a doubt the Tauntaun was the hardest, followed by Cantina Aliens #2 and Darkstryder Crew #3. I have all of the RPG books which took a while to get as well.

OOPS double-post.
-
Dammit Mr. Speed, I've been trying to convince myself not to start re-basing all my WEG Star Wars stuff, and your great looking miniatures are not helping at all. The Dark Strider crew look absolutely spectacular. Curse you Sir. ;)
-
Very nice indeed, didn't realise the dark Stryker crew had a female pilot. Will have to get her I reckon.
-
At the size of this collection, insuring it properly comes to mind, I've heard of horror stories before where a priceless miniature or terrain collection was damaged or even stolen :'(

That's a really good point. The only thing I ever had a separate insurance policy for was my saltwater reef aquarium. I'll have to check into it. ;)

Brilliant custom jobs! Nice to see the West End 'Darkstrider' minis in there too, you are a man of excellent taste!
-
Wow, a very nice collection! :-*
If I can ask, where do the grey-painted slotted based bases on the Engineer and Wookie below come from please? Or did you make them yourself (in which case: how did you make them please!)?

I painted those miniatures so long ago that I don't remember to tell the truth. I believe they were made by Micro Art Studios.
-
Speaking of bases, how much difficulty do you have with removing the integral bases from the West End Games/Grenadier miniatures? I just removed the bases from two Stormtroopers and it was not fun. Not as bad as removing the Leading Edge bases from Aliens, but a lot more work then I expected.

Lead is very soft and is really easy to cut with sprue cutters. I just cut around the foot as close as possible and then Dremeled the foot down to the right thickness. Don't use a stone, I used a large endmill.

I think it's time to buy some new sprue cutters. That's close to what I do, but instead of using a dremel tool I use an Xacto blade. It's probably time to buy another Dremel anyway. I get results, but I'm looking to improve my speed. I have a something like eighty painted Stormtroopers to re-base, along with at least that many Rebels, Imperial Army regulars, Rogues and such.
-
Wow! I just saw this thread and I'm amazed by the sheer volume and quality of your work. The SW universe has a lot of room for eclectic characters and you sure have a diverse cast of them. Though it's also nice to see familiar faces (or, helmets) as well. I particularly like your Boba Fett and Leia/Boussh which are excellent.
I've posted a link to your collection on my own blog, I hope you don't mind the plug :)

No, not at all, glad you liked them and thanks for the compliment.

I did a bit of cut and drop on some of mine, cut the base shape out of the slotta and dropped the mini in. Stormtroopers are one of the worst based ones, some of the feet are a little ...odd ;) Others just sharp clippers and sanding blocks. Exacto??? erm no.... not if you don't wanna be counting the fingers you haven't got, leave that in the box mate.

To think that I passed on the entire collection of the old rarities once. Argh!
Lovely lovely paint jobs! :o

Thanks! The West End Games miniatures are pretty easy to find on Ebay, with the exception of the Tauntaun, Darkstryder Crew #3, and Cantina Aliens #2. The Cantina Aliens blister pack is actually for sale right now on Ebay if you're interested.

Don't forget the legendary AT-PT. The only one I ever found was a badly recast miniature that annoys me every time I see it.

Yeah, I have a WEG original lead miniature and I still had to rebuild the front of one of the legs.
-
bumity-bump - Check out these miniatures and let me know if I should take more pics of my ridiculous obsession. :D
-
Lovely stuff as always, George Lukas would be proud ;)
Are you planning on making some dioramas or terrain for them as displays? I'd love to see group shots in a proper SW environment :-*

I've done 5 or 6 diorama models for commission work but unfortunately didn't take any pictures. I currently have no plans in doing any dioramas but who knows. ::)
-
So which subjects did you make dioramas for? Where they Star Wars or something else?
-
So which subjects did you make dioramas for? Where they Star Wars or something else?
They were all AMT/MPC STAR WARS model kits that I modified quite a bit - Jabba's Throneroom (I actually did 3 of these), Rebel Base, Battle on Hoth (I did 2 of these), and a Mos Eisley Cantina.
-
Just added new pics - WEG Noghri, Vader, Death Star Droid, and Squib Bounty Hunter, plus a few others.

What/why are you bumping? ???

Why the bump? Someone forgot to give you attention in the real world?
