So this has been argued to be one of the ugliest ever GW minis around, Nagash. I really really wanted this mini when I was a kid but unfortunately never had the money to get it. Now I have it (Thanks supervike) and have begun the process of un-uglying him. I don't think I'll get it completely right but I'm rying to make him a bit more like the picture of him in the 3rd? ed army book of the undead. So far I've added hair and filled out the cheeks a bit made the eye sockets less skeletal. Next up will be reworking the mouth. I'm trying not to cut the miniature up at all just in case I decide to remove it all because I botch the job. I also moved the head forward slightly so he doesn't look like he suffers from carrot up the bum syndrome anymore.
Firstly just with hair added

This is where I'm at now.

That's still a massive noggin he has though :)

Best of luck good sir. You've undertaken a daunting task indeed.

I know it is stating the obvious but that piece of metal is truly an epic turd. Almost a classic for that very reason.
-
I know that I'm a minority, but I still thinks it's rather cool. Maybe due to the fact that it was released when I got in to the hobby as a wee boy.
Gary Morley has been bullied for this miniature a lot I believe!
Here's the original head that was supposed to be used, which is alright, but still a bit turdy ;)

I believe you will do an excellent job, and I do look forward following this thread!

In that case I should just add some corn to it to improve the character of the mini. ;) I don't hate it's look but it's not pretty. More a nostalgia project than anything. Thanks for the comments.

I've never understood why it was such a hated piece?!
But then again - I'm starting to think that my eyes and brains simply receive and transmit on different wavelengths to most people.

Your conversion is gorgeous!

When I did him I altered the mouth & jaw to look like the picture.
-
Maybe you could also make him taller? Separate the torso and legs, put in a bit of a spacer and add an obnoxious belt or sash or something? That would help put those oversized arms and head in better proportion.

Not a bad idea. I may do that.

I've sculpted some new teeth on him so he'll have an open mouth. Now just to do the lips over the top. I did everything in reverse order. The hair should have been last. ;D

It's hilarious how in his current state his hands would reach his knees if he relaxed those arms. lol
(For the non-artists/non-medically-knowledgeable: the hands should normally fall mid-thigh with relaxed arms).
Besides the arms, the head is big and the torso is a bit wide, so longer legs just seems like a natural fix (the narrow waist is silly, but I suppose that's fine for such a skeletal figure).
-
Hmm... This relatively small project is becoming larger and larger by the minute. :)
-
Here he is. Now he just need some paint (unless someone else has any good ideas). I tried to give him an open mouth like in the art but considering I didn't want to hack off part of his normal face it has made the mouth look a little gorilla-like. I lengthened the body with a belt. Teeth on the front and skull on the back, typical GW style :)
Here's the result.

Looks good to me. Keep it up!
-
Definite improvement, I'd say!
-
Definately an improvement. :)
Just paint it now! :)
-
Thanks!
Unfortunately for the painting side of things I'm in sculpting/creating mode at the moment and need to use it up before it fades. It will be the top of my list to paint though I think. Stay tuned :D

Wow! You don't mess around. This looks so much better than he did.
Just adding the hair made an incredible difference, but the other additions keep making it better.
Great stuff man!
-
Thanks. and thanks again for the mini. Once I get an idea I have to follow it through straight away. Which is why I have sooooo many unfinished things.
-
I don't suppose you could post a picture of the finished conversion? I don't need to see the painted finish, just the putty work.
Please?

Sure, I reorganised my photobucket recently but forgot that it would destroy all the links in previous us topics.
Here you go.

Still no paint though and the sculpting was done without actually harming the metal so pealing the stuff off will leave it as it was

Oh, I hadn't seen this one, it's terrifyingly wonderful :o :o
