Title: Vampire Counts Mortis Engine/ Coven Throne
Post by: Evil Bob on July 30, 2012, 09:07:06 PM
Allison posted some blog entries of a GW Coven Throne and a GW Mortis Engine for their Vampire Counts army that we recently did for a customer. There are two blog entries since there is a pretty lengthy painting tutorial and quite a few pics:

This is gorgeous.  I'm sorry if I missed it on the blog, but is there a tutorial on how she did the skin for the vampires, especially the red-head.  I've been looking for a good deathly pallor that isn't rotting green, and she is perfect.

Great job painting that. I'm not a fan of GW's new Big Guy things. Too much to go wrong in storing and moving about. Although when you paint things that well they look just great.

Impossible creation!

Nice painting though.

Though I'm generally not fond of new GW plastics, I like this one, as it's possibly the only way to make a deranged mini like this.

Nice paintjob, pal!

Cheers

Thanks guys. I'm with Beefacke in that I feel these bigger models are more display pieces than gaming pieces. I can't see how well they'd stand up to being moved around and taken to and from games.

I'll see if I can Allison hop on and give some pointers on how she did the flesh, or add a section to the blog.

The painting is way better than the model. What the heck is this supposed to be? A flying coach of rediculous proportions. I really don't care too much for those GW models that are supposedly great engines of war but are really not up to the task. Nothing against being slightly unrealistic (it is fantasy after all) but this one goes in the same direction as the stupid griffon the emperor is riding - how on earth can people armed with melee weapons hope to hit anything from 20 feet above the ground? And in this case: is the vampire queen going to sprinkle a little blood around and hope everybody is going "Eeeewwgh!" and running away?

Rant over - I do appreciate the painting and modelling aspects. That's a job well done.

The step-by-step tutorial was WONDERFUL, & the model is BEAUTIFULLY painted. VERY WELL DONE!
