Title: The Bone-swords: an empire of the dead faction
Post by: Laughing Ferret on August 15, 2012, 08:20:24 AM
Posted up part I of II teaser background for one of my new empire of the dead factions.

It's rather lengthy, so the whole thing can be found here:'

http://laughingferret.blogspot.com/2012/08/death-walks-streets-of-london-1888.html (http://laughingferret.blogspot.com/2012/08/death-walks-streets-of-london-1888.html)

A bit of it...

Like heartbeats, the dull, hollow knocking of old metal on stone reverberates down the winding foggy night street. Shutters hastily snap and doors are barred as death approaches.

Why have they come? There are as many answers to this as there are those who are brave enough to risk uttering a guess. In hushed voices around common room fires some talk of it this same night. Some even claim to have seen the warriors, those with the faces of bone.  But they are all wrong.  None of them know the true tale of the Knights of Death, those who were once men but are no longer: the Bone-swords.

But if you wish to know it, and can brave the telling, I will tell it to you.

First Glimpse of one...

Even in black/sepia & white the Bone Knight looks TERRIFIC...when I'm more awake I'll check out the background. I look forward to seeing the Living Impaired Lads in (un)living color.

Is that a Privateer Press piece?

DeafNala: thank you: when the intro story is complete I'll then put up the color photos.   This guy here, the leader, is from Reaper

Thanks all  :D

I did get their first game in last night, will probably do a battle report for that, btu I can say, bringing swords to a gun fight is pretty challenging!

The conclusion of their background story is here:

Some more pictures, will do color update soon.

-Starting Faction:

Running as Zendarin: knights with swords- the fact they have no messy meaty flesh is beside the point  ;)

President, and 2 x Vice Pres all counting as double swords.  5 members with swords.

Very original initial idea, and simply EXCELLENT work on all accounts.

I guess the Lady Guardian of the Grail is Mary Magdalene? Nice touch.
Maybe not coincidental, then, that the Knights Reliquar are 13: the Leader, his Lady and 11 faithful male companions?

Btw, for those wishing to play 'Gothic Horror' games in other periods than the 'traditional' Victorian era (18th C. for instance http://theminiaturespage.com/boards/msg.mv?id=276792 (http://theminiaturespage.com/boards/msg.mv?id=276792)  /  http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=42516.msg514954#msg514954 (http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=42516.msg514954#msg514954) as already done for Strange Aeons http://anatolisgameroom.blogspot.fr/search/label/Strange%20Aeons%2018th%20century (http://anatolisgameroom.blogspot.fr/search/label/Strange%20Aeons%2018th%20century)), an exciting implication of your background history is that the Knights Reliquar, being undead for centuries at the end of the 19th C., were already 'there' long before...
Would they take sides -and then what- if in 1745 the descent of Prince Charlie was only the tip of the iceberg, echo of an 'Underworld' war between Jacobite werewolves and vampires brought from the Continent by the 'German' king?
Josephine would not look out of place / time, alternatively what about JoeK Baroness?

and there is a choice of 'undead pirates officers' for the characters in 'contemporary' dress.

Good choice of setting for the home estate. ;)

I had a mind that it would be grail linked, but I thought potentially the 'sins' had got the better of them and after years of not finding the grail, they were offered something sweeter...but more poisoned. Like your take on the backstory though nice.

And, for what it's worth, I 100% agree with you re: Skellies vs Zeds. ;)

A jewel of a faction! The colors choice is perfect; the touch of (delicately feminine) pink brought by Josephine is simply striking. More scary than any blood red or gore!

One can only wonder about the activities of the 'Walking Dead' Knights Reliquar between the early 17th C. and the Victorian times? ???

Compliments for not feeling restricted to 'licensed' / 'official' minis when playing a game http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=44850.msg522244#msg522244 (http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=44850.msg522244#msg522244). Actually the use of 'proxy' figurines can only widen the audience and booster the 'taking off' of a new game. For instance imho Vesper-on Games would *encourage*  on their site the use of proxy minis to promote their Carnevale http://theminiaturespage.com/boards/msg.mv?id=247614 (http://theminiaturespage.com/boards/msg.mv?id=247614).
