Hi guys,
the wife took the kids to her mums for a weeks holiday so naturally I decided to make best use of the time and paint up two 1000pt armies for WAB El Cid. This was my first experiment with the Army Painter dip method. Ok this method of painting won't win any Golden Deamon awards but as a method of getting alot of figures painted up that look decent en masse on the table it works I think (just don't pick them up and look to closely at them :D)
First the Spanish

and then their Almoravid enemies

There are lot more pictures on my blog here for those interested

They look nice! :)

I am impressed!
They certainly looked good from a distance.

Impressive... did you sleep and eat!?

I had two sundays and a saturday where I did about 10 hours a day and I worked the other days and put in about 3 hours an evening so all told probably took about 48-50 hours to do both armies.

As massed forces they look pretty damn good. If you were to 'finish' them, what do you think you'd need to do after having dipped and based them? And how long do you think it would take?
All in all, two armies in 50 hours is nothing to sneeze at for sure!

I could go back over and add some highlights and do some work on the faces which would improve the close up look of the minis. There are also mistakes that can be tidied up. The last 60 Berebers were all block painted together at the same time asian sweat shop style by the end I was getting sloppy with the paint brush.
How long it would take I'm not sure. I may go back at a latter stage but I'll probably take a break and paint something different next.

That's two great looking hordes in my opinion.
I'd be lucky to paint 10 figures in 50hrs let alone that many - and mine wouldn't be half as good.
-
Well it looks decent from 1,5 meters away I guess. That's what counts in those mass games right? ;)
Are they any good up close? ;D
-
That is an amazing feat, and those figures look bloody fantastic! Kudos!
I think that your berbers will miss their mounted counterparts though... that's the one thing that's kept me from buying from them since cavalry is essential for all of my favourite armies that they carry, but they dno't have much in the way of cavalry...
But I look forward to battle reports around these armies for sure!
Thanks

Coming from you mate I take that as big compliment I have your website saved to my favorites always very inspiring
If your talking about Miniature Design Studios yes they have some nice miniatures but there are glaring holes in their ranges MDS do do Berber cavalry though that will be added to the army in due time otherwise the Spanish will just ride rings around the Berbers lol
