So, we move on to the next army I have been working on - which I think will figure in heavily in my next Enfilade game. I need to step away from the Fallout universe and run some VSF. Here are the first models in my Prussian/German army, which is going to be made up of Hinterlander Death's Head, Sailors, and Pulp Figures Seebattalion, with some VSF stuff. Currently, they are inhabiting the moon of Phobos, and have only just established a beachhead on the planet itself, especially as their greatest triumph turned into the triumph of the Norwegians. This fact leads to many of the conflicts the two powers have when they are not united against a common enemy known, perhaps, as the British. ;)

I am going to complain a little - there is a LOT of detail on these I didn't see until after I started painting them. They are not quite Evil Empire bad, but, damn. Still, worth it. Have a few more I need to pick up.

Another view of the two command models I have done so far. I need to go back and hit some details I missed the first time around that I only see now...
And I used the Black Army tankette to give them some armored support.

This is beautiful little model. I may need to get a couple more, if Operator 5 ever re-emerges.
And I am sure the more sharp-eyed of you are asking - what the hell is that in the background of some of these shots. Well, it is the pinnacle of Teutonic landhsip engineering, the Landkaiser.

It lends its existence to exactly what you think - it was a Galactic Heroes AT-AT, and has some rivets added through the use of some paper strips I got from some gentleman on this board some years ago. I am using this as the very pinnacle of their forces - it will probably only enter battle about as often as the Gungnir, as the German forces can't have too many of them.
And here is a total of the forces I currently have painted.

So, the question it has created is: Is there anywhere I can get good decals for Iron Crosses and Prussian eagles?

*Great* work!
I specially appreciate the choice of colors for the Hussarettes: realistic for a 'hot desert environment', yet delicately feminine :-*
The 28mm models for the new Dystopian Legions http://www.spartangames.co.uk/galleries/dystopian-legions-gallery (http://www.spartangames.co.uk/galleries/dystopian-legions-gallery) look more 'Weird Interwars' / WH40K than steampunk, but some could fit with the style of your tankette.

Looking good!
The Princesses came out really fine and the dark blue looks quite good on your heavy support.
I agree that the Spartan tankettes could be quite nice for VSF, but who knows when they will be available.
As for German crosses... Brigade games (http://www.brigadegames.com/Decals_c_129-2-0.html) has a set for their German WWI A7V tank. I do believe that the U-boat decals are quite good to, though they don't have a photo of them on the site.

Yeah, I find the Dystopian Wars stuff to be lacking a certain something that VSF (for me) needs...they are TOO industrial. I eman, you don't need to go all lacepunk, but it needs to have something of a certain individualism, and they don't seem to have it. If the kits are not outrageous, I might be able to use them as bases, though. Next, I am slapping some paint on some Seebattalion, and trying finish up my heavy cavalry.
-
I like how star wars stuff always end up with the Prussians.
I used Star Wars as the inspirations for my Prussian army too... with white uniforms and everything. Grey vehicles though. lol lol

Great work. I love the lght olive green uniforms, especially with the red accents. Thanks for making Hinterland look so good. And regarding your comment above: I have felt exactly the same on occasion. ;D

And the newest addition to the Prussian/German forces of Deutsche Mond, Princess Cecilie's personal combat vehicle, The Schwarze Witwe.

I have been eyeing this beast for years now, and I finally got to pick him up. She was meant to be more post-apoc, but I think she works just fine for VSF. Now the Prussians have 2 of the largest groundpounders I have available - I just need to get my hands on a good gun to pop on top of her - of which I trying to decide which Reviresco I'll use. I am seriously considering that big ol' boy I put on my Norsk 'nef the Mjollnir. Now I just need to finish up more foot.

I love that huge spider, I saw it back when it was released a while ago and haven't heard of it ever since. Nice that you picked it up for your collection. It has a detailed head interior, doesn't it? Some techy bits and a pilot IIRC.
-
:-*
The Ramshackle spider is an awesome piece of machinery. It's been on my "wish list" for a couple years.
Your's looks really great, mate. The paint job is way cool. ;D
-
I have one of those in my VSF collection, I'll build it one day...
-
Oh drat... I have that one too. Never managed to paint it though.
What happened was tragic: The kids found it and broke all the legs... argh.
Lovely looking force you've got.
-
This army is great!! I specially like the Schwarze Witwe.

Ramshackle Curtis seems like an incredibly helpful guy. If you write to ask how you can replace the legs, I suspect you'll be surprised with how easy it is to do so.
-
Thats a nice start to your army.
For my Prussians I used 1/48 scale WW1 German aircraft decals made by Almark, which included numbers and various sizes of iron crosses (the largest being 30mm high). Unfortunately Almark are no longer trading, but you might find someone who still has stock if you do a bit of Googling.

In order of responses...
Cherno - yes, it does have a pilot and some tech on the inside of the head - a chick with 6 arms didn't strike me as VSF if she was supposed to be human though, so I sealed her in.
I fell in love with Curtis' Huntsman Spider Tank the moment I saw it, but only now had the money at the same time as the desire to get it. It is well worth the time to clean it up (which is considerable - I suspect the molds are wearing out, because I found bits of them in the figure in places), and highlighted easily.
If you want get new legs, you can order them in his 'Tridlins" section. The man is incredibly helpful, and responds quickly to emails.
Bullshott - thanks for the pointer. I am having a hell of atime finding any good decals that show the flared iron cross instead of the simplified one. I may end up free handing it...which will suck.
-
And now some Seebattalion to fight alongside their Prussian cohorts. I used the same olive khaki - I chose it from a couple of options I had found when I first started this project. Bob's figures are not overly detailed, and while his faces have a sameness to them, I find their character more than makes up for that. Besides, he is a really nice fellow in person (I had the luck to play in a game he ran several years ago at Enfilade in Olympia WA).

This last one is going to be generic 'officer in charge' for when I don't want to use named heroes, but I decided he needed a couple of bodyguards, and being that Mars is very hard on dogs' health...

I am planning on making the German/Prussian armies specialists in clockwork animals, like the Land Kaiser, Spider Tank, and once I am finished painting them, Clockwork Juggernauts.
-
Looks very good. But the third picture won't show for me.
-
Huh. Looks fine on this end.
-
I can also see it now, I don't know what the problem was yesterday. Still looks good :)
-
Really nice work, the color scheme on the Hussars is quite interesting. Looking forward to seeing the whole group painted :)
-
Must say, I've been mostly put off by the 'superdeformed' Galactic Heroes, but you've made them almost palatable. :D
As for Iron Crosses, does anyone know if I-94enterprises still produces same? I know the Beacon decals they bought out included some. I can't find ANY product on their web site, though the convention list includes a stop from this year.

Eagles, I can't help with, though.
You can't make do with the one on the flag?
Doug

And the last in my flood of stuff I have been working on lately - a simple German Officer of the Seebattalion.
I love this guy.

He's full iof character. Is he from Pulp Figures?

He is - I need to get a clockwork butler and some kind of native mistress, I think.

From what source do those marvelous dogs originate?

From what source do those marvelous dogs originate?
Games Workshop - they were from the Inquisitor game, went along with the policewoman, I think.
-
Looking forward to seeing your game at Enfilade.
