Title: Bakkenwald: AARS and 4 New Warbands
Post by: thebinmann on 22 August 2012, 10:53:44 AM
As some of you may know I have been amassing a collection of painted minis and scenery for over a year now (for this and other projects, namely Cthulhu/Pulp, 6mm Fantasy and 10mm Fantasy). Now it’s time to play, unfortunately I have no gaming friends where I am so it is important for me to share it with LAFERs.

The Scenery used was mostly bought from Grimm in Summer 2011, the minis come from a range of sources. I painted none of them but can take credit for keeping some of them for over 20 years.

POINTS WILL BE GIVEN TO THOSE WHO CAN NAME THE LAF PAINTERS WHO PAINTED SOME OF THE MINIS!

So here they are, I decided to create four warbands so I could play two games in one evening. Drawing randomly it will be:  Pit Fighters Vs Orcs and Dwarves Vs Reikland Mercenaries.

All names inspired by years of playing WFRP!!!

Dwarves

Dwillack The Third: Noble (80): Shield, (5), Gromril Hammer (9), Helmet (10), Gromril  Armour 75 = 179 The armour was a tough choice it cost a Thunderer!!!!

Grunndig "The Green Dragon" HartWeg: Engineer (50): Handgun (35) = 85

Morklad Karanki: Wyrdstone Addict (Troll Slayer) (50): Two-Handed Sledge Hammer (15) = 65

Frimbar Fimbur: Wyrdstone Addict (Troll Slayer) (50): Gromril Hammer (9), Axe (5): 64

Grotti P’ants: Thundered (40): Handgun (35): 75

Hired Sword

Uli and Krutch: Dwarven Flamer Team (As Warlock) = 30 (Spells = Fires of U’Zhul and Sword of Rezhebel) - these were actually rolled, I had a standard warlock figure ready  though I may have fudged anyway….

Total: 498

Reikland Mercenaries

Hired Swords

Albrecht Taagermann: (Elf) Ranger (40)

Total = 500

Chaos Thugs (Pit Fighters)

I followed the GW starting rules and bought the fighting styles but will use the weapons lists on mordheimer.com for buying new weapons (any new recruits will follow this process), I did this not least because otherwise the Pit fighter skill Arms master and because they might be too limited.

Great stuff!

Lovely minis and scenery.
A really nice collection.
 :-*

I like the way that you given some of your own flavour to the project, like the minis you have chosen to utilise the Pit-Fighter list.
Much better minis, I reckon.

Nice alternative to the Warlock, too.
Like it!

Cheers

I bought that "Warlock" years ago!!!

Did you spot any of the painters?

That is a FANTASTIC collage of minis & scenery. You have a GREAT variety of cool pieces in a variety of styles that all seem to work well with each other...amassing such a FINE collection is a skill akin to that of a choreographer or a casting director. VERY WELL DONE!

Sorry I'm not yet familiar enough with my Fellow L.A.Fers' work to pick out individual painters...getting there though.

You've built up a nice collection of warbands, there.

I have played solo Mordheim, running bands against each other, many times - quite fun.  Do you have the Chaos in the Streets rules, designed for games with three or more warbands (includes new scenarios)? Big dust-up can be a lot of fun.

Have fun!

Great show Adam! I think the Prof did some dwarfs for you (based on the basing style), but those could be Cpt Blood too. It's hard guessing.

This reminds me I still haven't mailed your dwarf. =( Did get your address though and will get on it!

great stuff Adam!  :-* Lookin forward to see some battle report with those gems!
I'm honoured to be mention as the painter of those reiklanders (they are really cool, both minis and paintjob!) but it wasn't me, Dr. Falkenhayn. :)
Another warband is almost ready to leave Italy: skaven are coming, Adam ;) Finishing the last four.

Post by: thebinmann on 24 August 2012, 02:22:48 PM
So this is the location of the action, I intend to change th board but might build towrds a proper town layput as I develop the game (and get more buildings)

So the action takes place in the Ruined City of Bakkewald, it is on the South of the Mad Dog Pass somewhere near Fatabad in the World's Edge Mountains...

Judging by the number of threads on LAF that corner of the Empire is positively littered with ruined towns......land and property are cheap, but house insurance is nigh impossible to come by!

Nice collection you are putting together Adam. What are the 2 large plinth type buildings?

Would you like some closeups?

I'm fortunate in that I get to see a LOT of very cool Mordheim stuff at Tom's Boring Mordheim Forum...it's one of the Mod benefits. While all the various takes on The Town & surrounding areas are unique, they share the common trait of being highly imaginative & creative works. This board fits very nicely in that description...TERRIFICALLY WELL DONE!

All I did was hold onto my minis for 20+ years and then pay someone to paint them..... plus when my friends come over we will game non-stop
I do feel like a private collector though, having beautiful things for me only, but if you are even in the centre of France.....

 :o :o :o

I cant believe that you just wrote that!

There is always something more to be made for Mordheim.
At the moment I am working on a Wizards Tower and a Witch's hut.
Progress is slow as I am not really concentrating on them, just tinkering, to keep the urge to build supressed.

Also I love the choice of miniatures that you're using, really nice selection; it's enough to make the rest of us feel jealous!

Keep up the excellent work in collecting such fantastic specimens.

Chance Encounter, Dwarves vs Reikland

Dwarves set up first, blocking the other buildings with the 14" requirement so the Mercs are forced to hide.

Empire go first.

Round 1

Karl-Heniz is exposed and The Green Dragon Blows him to pieces witha Critical blast!!!

Uli and Crutch open up on Braugen and stun him

Round 2

Albrecht fires at Frimbar scores a crit and takes him down, but not out.

Max fires wide of Morkland

Aldred charges Uli and Crutch but scores two misses

Klaus storms Dwillack exchanging blows but that armour pays off for the Old Dwarf

Dwarves

The Green Dragon Jumps down to line up for the next turn

Morkland charges Aldred

Grotti opens up on Max, stunning him

In a turn of combat only Dwillack manages to connect with Klaus Stunning him

Round 3

Bengt charges Uli and Crutch

All three archers take a pop at Dwillack three Armour saves (wow 75 gcs well spent)

Aldred takes out Morkland (those Troll Slayers go down EASY!!!)

Others exchange blows

Dwarves

Dwillack caves Klaus skull in (leading to those horrible scars and twisted face)

Uli and Crutch toast the Elf and even use his Fay magic save as a side dish, "The Quarterback is Toast!!!!)

Grundig knocks Aldred DOWN!!!

Round 4

Braugen charges in on Frimbar and takes him out (another Troll Slayer gone!)

Two archers at Dwillack one hit and one crit, but three armour saves!!!!!

Dwillack exchanges blows with Aldred

Uli and Crutch flame Flynn (who later dies of his burns)

The Green Dragon Charges Braugen with his dagger scoring a crit and taking him OUT!!!

Grotti takes a pop at Max

Round Five

Reiklanders decide to leave the field, having oo many men down. Looking back this was perhaps a touch hasty but I didn't want to lose any more heroes!

Post game the Dwarves hold on to a shard and find four more. Score a double three and find a sword, which goes to The Dragon!

Exp leads to the Dragon gaining a new skill and I chose Hunter so he can fie every turn, lovely!

Morkland survives against the odds (+1 exp), Frimbar is not so lucky and loses an eye!

I spent the cash on o new Thunder, Sturm Firebeard, and get the two of them maces; with 15 going to Uli and Crutch (opps Krutch) for new fuel.

Aldred's Wanderers post game lose Josef to his burns, while Klaus comes back ugly from his scars and now causes fear!

Rolling a massive 22 and the shard they held onto they came out quids in, perhaps better off than the Dwarves, and gain the services of a Warlock returning a favour! Sweet!

Braugen had 2 exps so gained +1 WS

I brought in a new Marksman and paid Albrecht, keeping a few pennies too.

Spikeheaders vs The Black Cave Tribe

The four buildings were marked out and the Pit Fighters set up first hoping to take advantage of their amazing skill!

Round 1

Taking up positions

THE THIN GREEN LINE

Round 2

Bogrot looses a shot that falls short of Khardang and Red fires wide of Raz Bol

Round 3

Raz Bol dive charges (making his I roll which I didn't know he needed to do, lucky him!!!) and takes Goblog out!

Grazgog Zzaps Khardang, stunning him, but Bogrot shoots wide again!

And now beleive it or not I can't read my scrawl! So it's just the pics!

The orcs tried hard but the Pit Fighter skill really made the Pit Figthers into killing machines! And the orc handgun jammed, so with the pistol and bo out of action they didn't have a chance. In the end Tirzog (boss), Grazgog (Shaman), Grugzki (Hired Pit Fighter) and Goglog were all out off action! With no Pit Fighters falling!

In round 6 the Orcs legged it!

End phase

Tirzog had a full recovery, Grazgog came out harded and immue to fear everyone else was ok.

Grazgog also had enough exp and got a T raise, he changed so much I changed the model (finding my Shaman model  )

All the money went on paying the Pit Fighter!

The  Spikeheaders did a little better. No exp ups but Khardang bought a Dwarf Axe! They also took a new member a Pursuer witha Trident and Buckler, as you see the mini has a Bastard Sword and Left Handed Dagger. I have decoded that I will use the trident stats for Bastard Sword adding that if used in both hands it loses strike first but gaind str +1, in one hand can only be used with shield or buckler (expect to see more Bastard Swords soon). The pursuer is Branaque-De-Igulk (AKA B-D-I).

Played two more games and it has really scratched an itch I had, even solo. The campaign mode really adds something special, by far the best part of the game!

Damn straight, Mordheim's campaign system makes the game what it is, if I had enthusiastic & creative people to play with i'd never stop playing it!

very nice terrain and a lot of pretty minis, great collection.
These "Anti-Witchhunter" would be pretty nice minis for a "Kult of Caine", game-wise similar to the witchhunters.

Keep'em coming

Title: Re: Bakkenwald: Binmann's Mordheim Campaign. New AAR Dwarves vs Possessed
Post by: thebinmann on 09 September 2012, 08:08:00 PM
The Dwarves drew the Possessed in Wyrdstone Hunt

The slow moving Dwarves got off to a slow start, unsurprisingly, as Moonhead flew in with the Outrider as backup to claim one stone and the Possessed steamed in to claim a second.

The Green Dragon managed to claim a stone before offering back up to Dwillack.

Meanwhile on the otherside of the field the Gunners and Uli and Krutch tried to takeout Moonhead

Green Snapper came away with Madness and now "suffers from" frenzy. Knud he Outrider was taken down but survived to gain an attack!

The Dwarves added the services of new Miner

PF take on the Brothers of the Yellow sign in Hidden Treasure

Pas-de-Bol gets luck and finds the chest as the Crowman can only look on!

A mass fight ensues as the Brothers try to claim the prize!

As dawn breaks the combat heats up!

The Stunty Pit Fighter fails a charge!

At the end of the fight the Brothers took a fair bashing, losing two unnamed brothers!

The PFs saw Hiisse rise from the ranks to become a HERO!!! That is the first one and rolling that 11 was a real jackpot for the Warband.

The PF take on the services of a new Chaos Style fighter as well as a Warlock "returning a favour" and the Brothers, after seeing the value of speed add two Dimensional Shamblers (ie Warhounds)

Reiklanders Vs Orcs in Defend!

The Orcs took on the services of a new Pistol Boy and a mace wielding Boy, and the Boss found 3 bows and some rather deadly hunting arrows!

Title: Re: Bakkenwald: Brothers vs Orcs in Surprise Attack
Post by: thebinmann on 09 September 2012, 08:39:30 PM
The Brothers tried to spring a trap on the unsuspecting orcs:

Only 4 orcs started on the board, and the Brothers used the speed of thier new Warhounds to try and take them out quickly!

Luknob takes out the Byakee, but his brother is mauled by the shamblers, but Brothers Liam and Grimm come in and scare him to death:

But the rest of the orcs arrive on the scence quickly and the tide starts to turn:

And in the end the Brothers rout, and have still to win a game! In the post game one of the orc pistol boys is lost and an arm wound puts brother Lucas on the sidelines for the next fight.

Dwarves Vs Pit Fighters in chance encounter

The dwarbes are heavily out numbered as the chrushing force of the PFs advance, the Thunders that took up positions in the building quickly regretted it as the PFs moved in and mashed them tha,ks to the Warband common skill Pit Fighter!!!!

As the dwarves back away there's a smashing sound as a Dwarven miner and two Wrydstone Addicts emerge and join the fray:

And force the PFs to rout!

After the games the dwarves add two new Clansmen to form the mining stirke force!

They were good, I guess some of the surprise was lost as I play solo. They turned the tide this game, but I suppose I got lucky with the rollin for appearance.

I used them in a second game too report to follow...

However, I can say they add a bit of excitment to the otherwise slow dwarves.

Thanks guys

I can't find the papers, so it looks like back to the drawing board fpr the warbands.

Though I suppose the first games were a test, I think I will stick to the same basic groups. Starting over will also allow me to take out the errors, such as experience rolls for Hired Swords etc.

To be continued, but perhaps not too quickly

And more minis to come.....

I have posted on the Old West board but perhaps you don't stray over there.....

Post by: thebinmann on 11 August 2013, 02:35:37 PM
After losing all my stats I have had to restart the machine, here goes with new groups:

As a quick aside I decided that a shield or armour always offer a save of 6, otherwise they just aren't worth the money!

1. Micklestein's Marauders

This is a group of Gargoyles from Brada, f course. Warband wise they are based on the Lizardmen Band from Mordheimer, with a few differences:

1. They suffer no negative movement for difficult terrain
2. They can fly up one level of a building with no climb roll (as far as flying goes that's it, but the reat is reflected in the M of 6 and  for the large ones)
3. -1 and -1 WS inside buildings/ruins

So here goes, first AAR for a while

4 shards of wyrdstone were lying on the board doing nothing

When along came the rats and the Half Orcs....

The mad dash starts!

Snipeshot sees the rats, but they are inches out of range..

The rat gun boyz move up

Attack of the giant rats! And they eve, manage to down one of the big guys!

Sniepshot and stinger pick their targets!

Fartburp readies to chare!

But those damn rats are like lighning!

Meanwhile Grinlob is buy collecting Wyrdstone!

The rats are amazingly effective, but it's too little too late as the orcs mop up rodent blood and wyrdstone.

A few new skills are added for the orcs, and the skaven add a few instainties and lose an arm....

In term s of new recurits the ratboys add a Sniper Hired Sword and a giant rat, the Half Orcs pay the massive wage bill but skill add two Gits with Scimitars and Bucklers

Shorty later The Chosen try to smash through Micklestein's Marauders' thin grey line

While deciding what to do, Gimbone went nuts and charged the Gargs! I bet they regret setting up within his massive 16" zone!

Although they try to hold, the brutal force of the Chosen is simply too much

It's short and messy and right from the first charge there was likley to be only one winner!

Te swarm tactics of the Gargyoles DID NOT WORK! Though they did dwon the might Smashbone!

In this crazy game of British Bulldog the Garygoles got smashed!

The Gargs are damaged, but all pull through though Ahken misses out on the next game but Gotalot is harderned, even more!

The Garg's pick up 70 gold and a free hire sword: they add a second Solid Granite Garg, Brignash, kitted with a clube and sword and add a sword for Bld'Ngor.

Hired Swords are tricky but I chose a Warlock, an old "friend" Micklestein, Harim Sprye

The Chosen amass 80 gold and decide to add a Shaman, Big Bellow, armed with a Double handed Weapon.

Dreddgor takes a skill: Mighty Blow
Glimbone takes Horned One, +1 Attack when charging

Great thread the last warband of thugs is my favourite. I must admit I like Rogues and ruffians.

Shame about that dog being so rare its very nice indeed!

I can only think of two alternatives but they come with other figs.
