Title: Rocketeer Reboot/remake
Post by: fantail on 23 August 2012, 10:48:21 PM
Disney is talking about remaking/rebooting one of my favourites 'The Rocketeer'. See link http://www.darkhorizons.com/news/24740/disney-to-reboot-rocketeer-franchise (http://www.darkhorizons.com/news/24740/disney-to-reboot-rocketeer-franchise)
In the mean time watch the original, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EJL9aVp_1jE&feature=player_detailpage watch this fan film http://vimeo.com/user4835392/rocketeer-pilote
and start building your zeppelins.

Let's hope they don't fuck up the marketing and declare it a flop before its had a chance  ::) (like John Carter, if you hadn't of already guessed).

I hope they use Betty in this version rather than "Jenny". Dave Stevens Drew Bettie Page.
As you can tell I am a huge Bettie Page fan, unlike Jo who isn't  ;)

Rocketeer is one of my favorite films. I was wondering if the success of Captain America would cause an increase in interest in the movie, and it looks like it did. I don't feel that Rocketeer really needs a reboot, but if they do it right and if it makes enough money to spawn a sequel or two....

That's a lot of 'if', though.

The original Rocketeer film has been vastly under-rated. IIRC they released it in a trough between several other blockbusters and it suffered financially by comparison. Very well-made and pretty faithful to the original comic books.

Not terribly faithful to the story of the comic, but I can understand Disney not wanting to make references to a character they don't own. (The whole "Doc Savage as inventor of the rocket-pack"...)

And "Jenny" couldn't hold a candle to "Betty".

I'd love to see a good pulp action film, but the only way we'll see more Rocketeer is if they do a "re-quel" of the first film. *Sigh*

They remade "Fright Night". They're remaking "Red Dawn". I hear "Poltergeist" is up for the treatment, too. Will they leave any of my high school movies alone? I think not, sadly. "Raiders of the Lost Ark" is probably safe, but "Crystal Skulls" felt enough like a crappy re-make to put a nail in the franchise...

Grump, grump, grump...

Grump, grump, grump...

Well, you have pointed out plenty or reason for the grumpiness.
They're re-booting Hellraiser too. One of my favs :?

I'm going to hold take a "glass half full" approach and hope for cool toys to go with any release.  If it flops then the toys will be cheap quickly.  If it succeeds then there will hopefully be more toys that will eventually be available cheaply.   :)

Now that, my friend, is a very positive attitude! ;)
