Title: Some ideas needed
Post by: Comsquare on 03 September 2012, 05:34:35 PM
Hei,

I'm in need of some ideas regarding the conversion of a mini, which will also include a display base.

Story behind the conversion is, I was very lucky to meet a lovely woman recently, who has a warband of darkelfs of her own, so is used to our hobby.
So, one evening as we chatted again, we talked also about darkelfs and tabletop and she was writing something I didn't understood, because she was mixing the letters in a different way, which is called "Buchstabensalat" in german, which would mean something like "letter-salad" in english.
So, end of the story is, we decided that the main hobby of darkelfs is gardening and mostley they plant "Buchstabensalat" and I decided to make a conversion of that.

Right now I have the mini I'll use for the conversion, the "Ceril" from Hasslefree (http://www.hfminis.co.uk/shop?product=ceril~hfe007&category=miniatures~elves), but still need the gardening equipment and a good idea for the "Buchstabensalat" part.
The main thing I need is a watering-can, but more related equipment is also welcome.
And of course the salad-thingie :D

I'm pretty sure that you guys can help me out with some ideas, because this forum is full of creative ladies and gents and a great source of ideas.

Buy a pack of Buchstabensuppe, take a few letter noodles out and stick them on the garden base, paint them green, and voilá, your own homegrown Buchstabensalat!  ;)

For the salad I'd go for miniature paper roses (http://www.papermart.com/Product%20Pages/Product.aspx?GroupID=38904).
Buy white flowers (1/2") and paint them green.

Gardening equipment. I'd look in model train stores for those.
You want 0, S, 00 or H0 scaled things. (The first might be a little too big, the last a bit small.)
Noch, Busch, or possibly Faller, are my best bets.

I like this idea, only maybe have them growing out like ears of corn? You might even sculpt some tiny ones from greenstuff or something for the unripe "ears".

Interesting, but are Dark Elves gardening in the sunlight as everyone else?

I would believe they garden in deep caves, under some fungus light. Then their letter salad, or any of their salad, would have a pale and/or glowing color? ???

And tiny lizards running around. :)

Now that you mentioned it... I can´t see Dark Elves gardening at all!!! I do think they use slaves for that some duergar dwarf or goblin perhaps? Unless you paint the elf like a normal one (but maybe is a Dark Elf with a a good karma amidst the chaotic evilness of his underground home  ;) )

Why not create a little backstory about a group of Dark Elves that are outcasts from their outcast brethren :D For some strange reasons they enjoy gardening and planting and harvesting in the big outdoors instead of dwelling in caves and going on slaving raids like their cousins. Unfortunately, like in A Nightmare before Christmas, being naive creatures yet good at heart they don't quite understand everything about gardening and so have to copy what they have heard from human farmers, in the process mixing their new hobby with the Dark Elves culture they spawned from; their gardens have wrought irons fences instead of white wood pciket fences, they have lots of skulls everywhere, and the sheets they use to protect planted seeds from hungry birds are made from human skin :D

Sorry, I got a little carried away :P

Cherno, I´m with you brother... what about a corpse/mummified scarecrow o_o ?

I can imagine a complete chaotic garden and the outcast dark elf with a serene face.

This is fun! ;D but I think we´re loosing the Comsquare vision here...  lol

These are some great ideas, sirs.
It looks like the project will grow a little bigger than planned, but it's completley
in the line I was thinking.

Cherno, really great idea, will take that as a starting point, brilliant.

And also thanks to all the others, please feel free to insert more weird ideas.
Guess I'll have to convert the gardening-equipment now as well, a watercan out of an skull and the like.

I like who that developes :D

Of course. They would use slaves for all the boring gardening work. This is why slaves are useful.

Then, as the slaves do all the gardening work, the Dark Elves have plenty of time to do what they like to do.

Perhaps they like to do some leisure gardening? :D
