after HLBSC pulled their Ultra-Modern, does anybody know what's happening to the range?
(I've tried e-mailing, but no luck yet)

I emailed them a while ago, just after the range got pulled.
As some of the figures had become quite dated it seems they decided an update was in order.
I heard they will be releasing British first to supplement the Airfix sets on the way.

Thankfully they're still doing their modern Brit vehicles.

I saw them (and the Airfix) and immediately thought '1/48 figures' would look the DB's.

Aye the Airfix stuff looks good, but they've really dragged their heels on releasing them, and they don't do any Terry Taliban.
If you do go the Airfix route get me to have a butchers in their factory shop to see if there's any savings to be had. Sometimes it's a much better price, although not so often on new releases. Hornby Hobbies is just up the road from me, even if the stuff is all made in China nowadays.
I did a post on the blog about it... http://6milphil.wordpress.com/2011/01/26/toys-r-them/ (http://6milphil.wordpress.com/2011/01/26/toys-r-them/)
Looking forward to seeing what you come up with.

The range is still owned by HLBSC, and is currently OOP.
It was pulled primarily due to the moulds deteriorating (especially in the eraly packs) to a level where Richard wasn't comfortable selling them at the price required to make a profit. Unfortuneately, during the original mould making process, the masters got pretty badly beaten up, destroyed in some cases, and so to make any new moulds would require quite a lot of work either repairing the masters and/or re-mastering some of the original 'master castings' - all of which is time consuming and thus costly, for what is an older range. I know Richard was talking about possibly looking into re-releasing parts of it t some stage (the later, less damaged moulds and possibly re-mastering some of that parts which might supplement his planned 'Ultra-Modern' releases)...

As an aside, I've got a couple of duplicate packs stashed, if you're looking for anything in particular?

The Airfix Op Herrick kits are finally out, less the Supercats, they were in my local model shop this past weekend.
