I just picked up the Tomorrow's War rulebook, and now am planning on the miniatures I will eventually need. I'm not really shopping at the moment, but who doesn't enjoy researching the miniatures they want?
As I look around, I am struggling to find figures I can use that will make up a unit, including heavy weapons/bazookas.
Does anyone have a good source for 28 mm near future (or a bit more fantastically Sci Fi) armed with bazookas and rocket launchers?

The Pig Iron (http://www.pig-iron-productions.com/heavy-infantry-c-5.html?zenid=540c07214047631825bb61cbcb25db12) stuff might fit the bill, I like the design :)

Those are certainly appealing ones. I do think I'd prefer them with visors, but that's not a huge complaint, as I'll probably wind up with mostly visored units, it will be nice to have a set that are exposed.
-
I've got no pics to show just yet, unfortunately, but I've got a bunch of 28mm SF armoured infantry being moulded at the moment. 25 different figures, hopefully out in the next 2 months.
I'll post a pic as soon as I get them back and paint a couple...
-
I think all of the Pig Iron figures come with separate heads. They have several different head choices including a couple with visors. They are nice figures, especially if you like your miniatures on the nuggety side.

All have heavy weapon support available :)

What name do you trade under, Lovejoy?

The Pig Iron troops do come with separate heads and they have a huge range of heads to go with them:

And let not forget Heresy Miniatures' troopers:
Some troopers:

Heavy support (HMG and flame-thrower):

Or see if you can get some of the I-kore plastics, they convert really easily and are dirt cheap if you've got a decent bits box.

At the minute I'm a freelance sculptor, but I will be trading under 'Farpoint Games' once I finally get some stuff released...
Here's a pic of one of the sniper 'greens', and a test paint job on one of the carbine armed models:

Nice pieces Lovejoy.Looking forward to seeing more.

Copplestone Casting's Future troopers have a full range of heavy weapons offerings. The em-4 troopers are also by Mark Copplestone, and can be mixed in if you desire. More on the "near" end of "near future."
-
LoveJoy - nice figs. I'll be keeping a look-out.
My vote would be Pig Iron, Heresy, Copplestone/EM4.
Also, Antenociti started a Nova Russ range: http://www.antenocitisworkshop.com/nrf-infantry-squad.html (http://www.antenocitisworkshop.com/nrf-infantry-squad.html) Nice figs. Beautiful Vehicles.

There's always Games Workshop.
Ground Zero Games.
Aberrant Peacekeepers, though you'd need to make your own heavy weapons.

Is there any way to get the pictures of the heads larger. I can't see details enough to risk buying a pig in a poke because the pictures are so damn small on my notebook. Visored heads that would work on my 25/28/+ mix of SF figures would be extremely useful.
Gracias,
Glenn

Clarification, please.
You are looking to assemble squads or platoons of figures based on fire teams, (2/3/4 man teams of "riflemen" with SAW or GL weapons included as part of the fire teams,) and you specifically want ATGM/RL equipped compatible figures - like grunts who have switched out their "rifles" for the special weapons or troopers from Company assets that can be attached to the unit(s) in the game?
Here's my question: If the former, you want them You want them to be from the same source or if the latter can they they be "near enough" looking figures from another source for the attached assets?
Secondary question: Visors (up or in use) are mandatory for all figures?
I assume you will eventually want compatible LMG/MMG/HMG figures too in the future? Perhaps that should be another thread to avoid confusion.
Yes, complete platoons with a "real SF/Near Future" TO&E can be done. My (sort of) old school favorites are GZG but these are more 25 mm than 28 mm in many cases. And only the main nations (and personal favorites - i.e., they sell sufficiently) nations have complete Platoon weapons/equipment IMHO.
I look forward to answers to you pursuit.

Glenn

Nice! Too bad I am trying to get out of 25+ mm SF right now (with no clear idea if I replace them with a different scale or not...)

You can make fire teams from a large range of Manufactures stuff. Larger squads and platoon level is difficult without repeating sculpts.
For fire teams, aside from those already mentioned you could use:
Mercs miniatures, various factions
Sedition wars vangaurd figs.
GW Kasrkin
GW Old school stormtroopers
Antenocities Tpea troopers.
Infinity, various factions, all factions have a basic trooper with 3 sculpts, plus a HMG and most also have a sniper and medic/engineer model.
This next lot are all available from ScottiaGrendle:
Kryomek marines
Kryomek Cyclos infantry
Void viridian marines
Urban War Viridian and Syntha Marines etc
If you can find them the old plastic AT43 RedBlok and UNA stuff have some nice sculpts.
There“s a couple of squad types in the Reaper Chronoscope range, there's the NOVA Corps, (no heavy/special weapons as yet,) and the IMEF marines, (5 models with 2 specialists)
Finally, there's some interesting stuff in the VOR range, but I don't remember who sells it right now.
Happy Shopping.

Does anyone have a comparisson shot of these with some 28mm guys, say Heresy or GW? I really like the idea of the transparent bubble helmets, but I would like them to match up with the rest of my collection...
-
Wow, some great options out here, thanks a lot for all the replies.
For Glen, my original intent was to see if I could put together entire forces with multiple fire teams complete with specialized support units that fit in. I'm okay if they are not perfect fits (ie from the same line) but the helmets and armours must be close enough that a matching paintjob would be enough to distract from the differences.
Another question was asked about whether visors were a requirement. They really aren't, I just thought on the Pig Iron Heavy Infantry, they would look better with visors. There are a set of heads from Pig Iron that look like they would be perfect. However, has anyone done headswaps with these units? All the Pig Iron descriptions make sure to note that the heads are attached, which makes me think it may not be as easy.
Again, thanks for all the suggestions. I like a lot of them. Some looks like they may be too out of scale to mix with my other intentions. I also won't likely be picking up any GW products for this either, but still, thanks for the ideas.

BTW,
WITH visors, thank you very much! :D
-
Very nice Parriah. I really like the Reaper weapons with rocket launcher. Not sure how easy it would be to apply it in a firing pose to other models though.
-
THANX, glad you like. Check out how I painted them in the just past LPL.I'll get back to you on which round it was.
-
Rounds 3 & 4 :D ;)
-
I am also looking for some options for fireteams so thanks to all the posters - there is some stuff that is new to me here :)
-
Took me a while to find them, but it was nice to see them with some colour, Parriah.

A_Train,
I'm basically doing the same thing and wondering... how do like the rule set?
-
To be fair, so far I have just read over the rules, and it will likely be along time before I am able to even give them a go. But I like what I've read. It's a pretty long book, so its a little daunting at a first glance, but the basics of the game are similar to others with interruptions/reactions. There is actually very little emphasis on weapons beyond the fact that you have your primary weapons (assault rifles, shoguns, pistols even) and support weapons (rocket launchers, machine guns or flamethrowers). Other than that the emphasis is placed on troop quality.
The rules repeatedly state that they are not written for a kill em all style of play, but rather scenarios. So you may have a scenario where superior quality troops are far outnumbered. The lesser quality troops will struggle to actually win the game by killing all the better troops, but instead, by preventing the superior troops from obtaining their goals (recon or item collection maybe), the lesser troops can win the scenario.
I hope to some day do a proper review, but I am far off from actually playing Tomorrow's War.
-
Thanks!
That sums up the impression I have gotten looking around on other forums.
Looking forward to your review.
And good luck on your project!
