Title: Some finished Pegasus chaps, and a question on value
Post by: TheBlackCrane on 18 September 2012, 12:48:33 AM
A couple of GW Pegasus Knights I've just finished; I don't play Warhammer, generally paint bits and pieces to sell them on, but I was quite pleased with these. There's a third I'm finishing off which I've customised a tad, which will make them up into a set of three. The skeleton coming out of the ground in the top picture is the skull and arms of a Wargames Factory figure.

My question is what anybody thinks would be a sensible asking price or ebay starting price for these?
I know it's always a case of their being worth whatever someone will pay for them, but I've not sold Bretonnians before so I don't know how the market is for them. So - any suggestions/thoughts would be very welcome.

Please do comment on the painting too - always looking for feedback!
Cheers
Rob

I think the painting is super.  Really nice colour choices and tonal coherence.  As for value?? Ebay can be so fickle. Start high and get no bids, start low and risk not getting high enough.  All compounded by what sells one week does not the next.

I agree with Svenn, ebay painted minis often don't go for the value of the time taken to paint them and then others go for well over!

Wait for a free lisiting day and start as high as you like?

Nice paintjob!  :-*
Pics aren't that good, though: to share here they are ok, but if you want to sell to a good price you should take new pics to show details of your work. People buying pro painted minis have to judge your paintjob by looking at the pics you provide, so taking photograps is an important part of your work.
BTW, they seems very nicely painted: I would ask for at least 200% of their retail price. But, as Svenn said, ebay could be tricky.

Thanks! It is tricky with ebay, might try them around some forums first.
I do have better photos, but the 1500KB limit for pics on here was thwarting my attempt to put them on  :)

Oh, I did not notice this limit before  ???
I think I've violated this rule many many times...btw, I think you can eventually solve this problem by uploading pics somewhere and then sharing the external link.

1500 KB is a lot of bytes, you know :)

A very nice painting there. Great patterns. Mute colors. Well done!

I actually find the GW idea of introducing pegasus riders a bit ridiculous but anyway they are beautiful models.

ditto. It would be a little less ridicolous to have an individual "hero on pegasus" than a whole unit. That said, those minis are some of the finest in the bretonnian range.

Oh I know - 'twas only that my camera had pics up at 3-4MBs which were a bit better for detail clarity.

Many thanks for the kind words on the painting.

As for the daftness of pegasus units - I couldn't really comment since I've never been drawn to playing WH anyway, though I'd agree it might be better just to have the odd heroic type on a winged horse, but when I can pick bits up cheaply from ebay (like these), and sell them on there's usually profit to be made  :D (I hope!)

they had that one Imperial hero on pegasus in the 4-5 edition

Though transforming of the Imperial hero to a Bretonnian knight was a good idea, a Pegasus in the thick of an landsknecht army was more than just ridiculous.

ditto :) Definely better into the bretonnia-medieval theme.

Just by way of an update on projected value, should you be interested - the three pegasus fellows I had ended up going for just under £24 each  - not bad considering I got them unpainted £7.50 for the three  :D

(Mind you, profit on the accompanying knights errant was even bigger, I couldn't believe my eyes!)

So, that's the funding for when By Fire and Sword appears in English sorted, along with some Muscovites I think, and I've been browsing the bazaar too, despite the fact I ought to be using the money for road tax... my priorities are in order!

Well done, though I'd say they were worth more than 24 but then you get what atleast two people think they are worth....

Nice job. And a Pegasus that's not white for once? Even better.
