Hi folks,
Some time ago, I was chatting with Adrian Goldsworthy about Romans and Sassanids, and we got to mumbling on about wanting to play siege games. Anyway, to cut a long story short, we found ourselves grumbling about no-one producing dismounted Sassanid 'Savaran' - the elite cavalry. So, me being me, I blogged it. And then, to my surprise, Keith from Aventine 'phoned me and offered to make them for us - despite the risk that the only loonies mad enough to buy them would be Adrian and I (I don't think they appear in anyone's army lists, anywhere... Not even my own!).
So here they are - complete with shield transfers by the amazing Steve Hales of Little Big Men Studios!

All the usual crap about white primer, block painting, Army Painter, blah, blah!
I've got 32 different transfers, so I think we'll start off with 32 and see how they go...
Cheers,
Phil

Love them!! I think that you will not the "only loonies mad enough to buy them" because they are fantastic miniatures and they are perfect "Easterlings" for the Lord of the Rings" too. I´ll have to try some of them.
Regards,
Andrés.

Good job, their colourful appearance makes for a nice elite unit.
That said, I don't think the sculpts are up to Aventine's usual standard. They look a rather uninspired, some even dodgy. :( Sorry, not for me, despite being a "loony" who would have some interest in such figures otherwise.

They are completely vibrant!

Pretty cool, i noticed them posted up last week myself. But you got them painted up and sorted out vary quickly, I see siege and city fights in your future.
I can also see them being used for the few elite infantry units they were thought to have such as the immortals...did the Immortals still exist back then, and would they be kitted out that way? lol

Lovely work :-* :-* :-*

Great paintwork, Phil, looking forward to seeing a siege ramp!

Agreed, plus I've fancied using the LotR rules for this period anyways and been wondering how to represent any cataphracts that have had their horses killed.
