As i'm suprised that no-one has brought this new game up, i thought i'd do it.
Yes, another 10mm Sci-Fi game, this time from Spartan - actually StudioSparta (Spartan's Forgeworld-like offshoot). Set in the Firestorm Universe, it covers the initial invasion forces for planetary assault (further games will cover company level (15mm) and snatch squad/raid style games (28mm), using different systems but the same 'figures' in different scales). And it's reasonably priced, too.
Whilst the rules stick with the 'spartan exploding die' system, they are NOT the standard Spartan set (US/FA/DW), as they are designed to run quick and open games. The system works on Coloured die for different effects (the colours used are black/blue/red - and Die are provided in the starter). Standard die are Blue, so a weapon with Red die is more likely to cause damage, Black less likely. Factors change the colour of the Die, so you generally only have to remember the basic 'to hit' factors.
Current set (Kickstarter boxsets for the game, army, all cards/die and a ruler) cover the two main forces availible (Terran and Dindrenzi - both human), with further sets promised to offer the other powers. They seem goos value, at around £50 (£45 GBP, + £5 P&P) for about £60+ stuff.
I actually prefer this to Dropzone Commander (though that won't stop me Scourge from deploying).

Strictly speaking, it has been talked about tho not under the specific title.

Edit: I shall get my facts right next time. Foot pried out of mouth... :-(

@ Gibby
The product is currently available but only for two factions so far. The starter sets are just called kickstart boxes.
You can buy the contents of each starter separately as well.

Ah thanks for the info. I have removed my unjustified rant and give a sincere apology.

I look forward to the 15mm version... some pretty cool looking stuff. The 15mm pics they have right now make them look a little on the thin side, but i'll wait until some proper pictures :)

Firestorm Invasion is a very old project that the Spartan kept in a drawer, and now have (finally) shown and made it official. I say this with certainty because I work as a freelance artist for them.

@ Gibby, It's not a problem, retrospectively I sounded a little sharp in my reply, sorry lol. but I spent some time at their stand at Colours and got most of my info there.
I'm waiting to see how they expand the range, adding the other races like the large arachnid Relthoza and lizard-y Sorylian Collective.
The current two factions are both human but have a lovely difference is aesthetic, so I am excited to see the rest of the factions realised.
@ ilnanonefasto, Any interesting tidbits you know that you could share ? ;)

nothing exceptional, an adaptation of the Dystopian War rules to a sfi-fi universe.
for those starting first time it is good, but for Dystopian War veterans it risk to be boring.

@ilnanonefasto
Have you seen any of the 15mm figures? And will you be painting them? ;)

The comparision to DW is fair, but the actual die mechanic is different - much easier to understand and get your head around (got out of DW due to the vast amount of special MARs for each unit - felt like playing old style Epic). If they updated the rules in DW to this style i'd jump back in quickly.
By using 'Colours' to provide levels of effectiveness when firing, and having the unit combine die without having to work through the 'halving' of additional units, it speeds things up. Also, target damage priority is now worked out as all hits go on nearest target within a unit, if you cause enough damage to kill 2 units (and units (apart from the biggies - which aren't availible yet) only have a 'Kill Rate', no critical), then you kill 2 units.
Think the design is for LARGE games, and it appears to work ( :?, haven't actually played yet)

A bit more flesh on the bones of this one here:

They are only talking 10mm (for?) now as far as I could see.

They have already shown of their 15mm and 28mm versions in various posts (especially the latter) the 15mm versions appear to be a lot slimmer and a bit smaller in comparison to other 15mm like GZG.
I think they must have all the stuff for the first two factions ready in all 3 scales, however it would make sense to concentrate on getting as much of the 10mm stuff out as possible before progressing with the other scales.
