Title: Project finished, 1/56 Crossley
Post by: CompanyB on 27 September 2012, 05:03:42 PM
Preview images of my new project in 1:56.   A Crossly Tender.

Like the Model T, the wheels, suspension, engine, and headlamps/lanterns will be done in 3D.  The rest though will be old school plastic.

Progress from Day 1 (about a week back)
Basic Frame complete, started the rear bed and the drivers compartment.

Awesome, there's a surprising shortage of WW1/1920s trucks out there, as I'm sure you know.

Ooh, me lust, me lust!
 :-* :-*
When do you think it will be available in the UK and what is the projected cost?

Separately, would you consider a modification to the rear for a bus body?

The model is being made by request for a UK client, but it will also be offered by company B, and cast for us by JTFM.  (yes, I take requests!  Just send money :D)

As the master is modular, I'm sure it can be converted into just about anything, and I'm building it so alternate bodies could be created for it. If you can send me the bus plans, I can look into it ;)

As for requests...here's another client commission in 28mm.  Old school sculpting in plastic card and greenstuff.  Should be our from them soon..

I completely forgot to update this thread.  Sorry about that :(

Here is the Crossley as it stands now.  I'm waiting for the Wheels, lamps and lanterns to get printed.  Then its a final fit and sanding before it's off to JTFM.  It should be in production in Feb.

A couple of shots of it semi assembled.  The thought is to cast in one piece, everything you see inn this picture (with the exception of the armored winscreen sheild)  The wheel shown is temporary for size. The actual wheels will be the wire hub ones done in 3D.  They will have a wire hub inserts to offset against each other so it looks close visually to the "hard to cast" wire hub wheels.

I still need to add nails and rivets to the wood railings and truck bed, and fine tune some details, but it's pretty much complete.

Shots with the bed removed.  The chassis is partially detailed with rivets, fuel tank, etc.  So I suppose we can cast with the bed separate.  Sort of depends though if folks would really conevert it.  It does open up the chance to make variants later though, based off the chassis/frame and wheels.

A Shot with our new Model T for a size comparisson.  I'd call the Model T 28mm since it's actually bigger than 1/56

Thanks for looking!  I'll post more pictures of the final once I get all the 3D bits printed out and stuck on the old school plastic master and give it a final clean and prep for casting.

That looks great!

Any rough idea of the price?

I think the separate bed would definitely open up some options, but you know the casting costs better than most of us.

My preference is for the bed to be a separate piece.  We'll see what JTFM thinks though.

As for price, it depends.  The model is made for a client to go with his line of miniatures, though we'll also be selling it. So that deal will need to be worked out.  I'd think it would be inline with and a little cheaper than our rolls royce models, since the metal content is lower.

Also, it will come with the appropriate machine gun and mount for the era.  That's in progress...

Components:  The main body and chassis will be cast as one piece!  Thanks to JTFM, this will be a very nice cast and make life easier for those who don't like lots of parts.  The rear bed will be another piece in resin, cast as shown.

The spare wheel holder, headlights, windscreen will be metal, as will the wheels.  Two rear Double wheels, a double spare and two single fronts. I'll post the 3D renders of the wheels and wire hubs when complete.  For now, the Crossley master parts to be made into resin go to JTFM tomorrow.

Now to start something new.  Maybe a couple of Marmon Herrington Tanks just for kicks. Or maybe something else from WW1.
