Love the table! What did you make your ruined road pieces from?
Title: Re: POST APOCALYPTIC: Miniatures and Terrain.
Post by: Raxxus on 27 September 2012, 08:27:12 PM
Thanks for the comments, :)

I made the roads from a Ikea plastic cuttingboard the bendy type, then I cut it with a scissor and painted it with black paint and different drybrushes.

Post by: styx on 27 September 2012, 09:08:05 PM
Yea, please consider the road idea stolen, maybe the turbine but I would have to watch the material to not cause injury mishaps!

The table is amazing....is the phone lines a problem to work with with the cords in the way?

Very nice! I love it all, but especially the work on the helicopter and the use of salt to help the process. Great job! Which brand weathering powders do you use?

These figures were painted in a very urban paintscheme with greys and greens, and of course the goggles and lenses painted with a blue color.
On display on my terrain road.

I'm likin' those. Building is perfect and the S-tank is suitably unique. Works well with the Hazmats.

I've been eyeing a Wiesel lite-tank for something similar. http://www.wonderlandmodels.com/products/revell-135-german-wiesel-2-leflasys-aff/ (http://www.wonderlandmodels.com/products/revell-135-german-wiesel-2-leflasys-aff/)

The heavy armor mini, practically in an EOD bomb suit is quite neato.  I want to buy one.

Some quick questions here,

Does any of you know how big the maxmini gasmask heads are in comparrison to gw,hasslefree and pigiron?

also does anyone know where ot get good looking wheels?, im looking to build a small/medium sized armoured vehicle.

You could try a Tamiya 1/48 ww2 kit as a basis, that has wheels, an interior and exterior! :D Ive seen some scratch build wheels from very fine strips of styrene. :? Not my cup-o-tea though.

I've also painted up my Russians from mongrel miniatures as Metro lastlight Red line Soldiers.

The last painted Group is one I have had laying for almost a year(unpainted) Figures by Hasslefree.

But this is not all, I also have two WIP Pictures of Projects the first of which is a mutant and the other is a Walker/warmachine that has laid dormant and waited for decades only to Wake and drone across the wastelands.

Looking forward to any comments and critique.

A Karskin/however its spelled right? Are those resin now? If not it would've been hell to tear out the original gun to stick in your's probably. Where's the minigun from? Hasslefree? He reminds me of a heavy from that game Rage (youknow with the welder's mask faceplate and all). That pauldron armour's a cool idea.

Is that a Games Workshop Ork you're using for the big guy? That's a 40mm-ish base right? That company's released so many new models that I don't even know if its one of there's. Good work on that bruiser. He kind of has a Rage style look about him too, though I guess that goes for any mutants in salvaged armour. ^^

That big mech reminds me of something from Enslaved or Bioshock. The bricks about its top are great. How're you painting it up? Rusted to hell, or just dirty (the advanced nature of the machine keeping it in a decent condition)?

Good work on that lot anyhow. That mech's massive, I guess the challenge won't be finishing it, but rather finding an excuse to actually use it in a game.  :D

Thats the good thing, I don't game so I can build anything I want.

The mutant is based on one of those chaos plastic heroes from warhammer fantasy.(on a 30mm base)

The gun on the Heavy guy was quite a hassle to remove so i ended up cutting off half the Hasslefree minigun(You were correct) and sculpting the rest.

The hard part about the mech is finding/building good looking back legs. lol

Well as far as legs go there's always the easily accessible Games Workshop Defiler/Sentinels legs. However if you could find a set from the Dust Tactics Axis Heavy Walkers, those could work nicely.

Sadly i havent really finished that much more.
But theres a few PIP figs including a new faction of militia/military,Zombies and a doctor.

And I have started on making a vehicle but have currently run out of ideas how to make it anywhere Close to "realistic" looking.

Little hatches either side of the front pod as access? Small radar set on top towards the back, makes a great scout/recon vehicle.

Great rubble Raxxus, it's very believable. The loose bricks are a very nice touch.

Is the telegraph wire string? It looks the business that's for sure and will sit well in situ.

A pity the photos are so dark. When shooting on white backgrounds the auto function over corrects. If your camera has the setting try photographing at a few stops above to overexposed the white, but get the item perfect. :) some auto modes have a little wheel to do that.

Cheers
Matt.

Huh, those loose bits of rubble look really effective. The painting's great throughout. ...I mean as far as capturing the dismal look goes its spot on. Is that all just pieces of foam you've made most of that terrain with?  ???

Foamboard, foam,sand/gravel, clay/GS, small 1:35 bricks (might have been 1:48),cork and plasticard, etc...
I keep using what I find/got and not im not always satisfied with the results, therefore some of the terrain never get shown/finished and get reused as new materials for new projects.

Also took some pictures for you to see how i work when creating terrain.

Primarily its made of MDF, foamboard, sand and cork, coated with glue, brown paint and sand to create a texture and then later painted, aswell as added a few bricks and tufts.
