Title: Micro Starwars
Post by: Miniman on 03 October 2012, 04:40:09 AM
I have been meaning to do this for a while. Back in the days when you could buy Micro machines in the stores.
I picked up a lot then with intentions of some day. Well that day came and I recently added some more.
So after re-basing here are some pics.

Awesome - those were pretty darn decent figures.  I had a couple dozen...shame I have zero idea what happened to them.  The micro machines vehicles/spacecraft were great too, though scaled poorly to the figures obviously.

If you want to put some scenery on that map.
check out http://www.momirfarooq.com/ (http://www.momirfarooq.com/), he's got some crates, consoles and other stuff available as papermodels.

Thanks for the comments all of you. I have some downloads for paper deathstar walls and other features. I may however make a board that I can use and move the sections around on. At least that's what I would like to do. Scatch building walls would be best but in time?
I plan on using Starwars miniature rules by WoTC or Fubar Starwars. The best thing is the scale 20mm or 1/72 works with them.
I just got the MPC Mullenium Falcon that is 1/72 scale. It will make a great centerpiece on the deathstar or a Rebel hanger. I also have a AT-ST comming that is Micro machines action series so it is to scale as well. I have Ewoks and as soon as I get some Rebel commando's I can put together an Endor game. Also have many more figures and some Hoth troops.

Very nice! I have a load of these figures as well and plan to do something similar with them. What did you base them on?

I thought nobody would ever ask. I used 1/4 inch washers you buy at a hardware store. Superglued .02 thick styrene to them, cut around the washer with a scissors and filed to fit. Then spray paint and superglued the figures on after carefully cutting off thier original MM base with a sharp exacto. The washer gives the figure weight while the styrene covers the hole and gives it a good surface for glueing. I thought they turned out nice and will use this method in other future projects that I do.

I can't seem to find that link but the printouts have swminiatures.com on them. Here are a couple to look at.
The first is where I got the map you see in my pics. It is in color not B&W like mine. My map is only temp untill I build something better.

Looks great! It looks more like 28mm than whatever scale the MM stuff is in.

I'm looking to buy in on the WotC line of minis and simple terrain like this would make it quick to start up something.
I was thinking about Micro Machines at first, because it would be cool to incorporate some vehicles without taking up too much space.
But prices for MM seems to more or less on par with WotC, but less to choose from.

Seeing your simple but effective terrain makes me want to do something similar, but for 28mm.
So I'm wondering where you got the floor plans from?
Did you resize the floor plans or can they be used with 28mm?

Cheers

That's because of the bases they look similar to WoTC only smaller 20mm scale.

I used the Deathstar map, printed in Black and white and sized down to fit 20mm.
I did this only to get a feel for scale and see what the map had to offer. You can get it printed for 28mm.
I am working on basing more for an Endor project now but I intend to come back to the deathstar and build up the map in 3D with walls, doors etc. and a 1/72 MPC Mullinium falcon I just got. I also have 2 AT-ST's in this scale for Endor.

I always loved those figures. We used to use loads of them in our RPGs as the metal figures were quite expensive. They are probably in a landfill somewhere.

There used to be a large map site called something like 'Holocron'. Can't find it, so I suppose it may have disappeared.

Don't think it had any of the Wizkids green and pink lines, though. I'd just as soon not.

Thanks guys.
I am also trying hard to find a suitable Liea in the strike team uniform.
I don't think MM made one so I will probably need a conversion substitute.
Any ideas on that would be apprieciated

How about this: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/STAR-WARS-ACTION-FLEET-MICRO-MACHINES-BATTLE-PACKS-ENDOR-VICTORY-/261123740355?pt=UK_ToysGames_DiecastVehicles_DiecastVehicles_JN&hash=item3ccc3012c3

I'm confused with all the different scales of the Micro Machines stuff, so this might not be what you're after or it's the wrong scale.
The picture is small, but it looks like Leia in her green camo uniform. I suggest you do some googling on Action Fleet just to be sure.

Thanks for the link but you are correct about the wrong scale. The action fleet figures ar bigger more like 25mm. The normal MM figures, like the ones I am using, are 20mm so they really don't mix to well. I don't know why they did that? I am thinking about converting a strike team figure by replacing the head with Leia's (no hemet) costley to do this as I will destroy a figure to do it but I havn't come up with anything else yet and she is pretty important to get right.

Bummer...

Yeah it's even worse than that... Add to this their spacecraft/vehicle ranges where they mix speeder bikes, lambda shuttles and star destroyers like they were all the same scale...

It's frustrating when searching on Ebay for vehicles to your 28mm miniatures or your X-Wing Miniature Game. Quite often the seller doesn't know what they're selling, and there is also an obvious resistance to adding measurements in the ads. Sorry for the rant... :?
