This is only really of use to Brits, but it's not too late for the rest of you to move.
I've stumbled across a range of floor tiles which have great possibilities for gaming, the texture above being what I'm going to use for roads in my Jihadistan campaign. There's a few more patterns including perfectly scaled flagstone both in grey and sandy. From Wilko's at £5 a pack.

They are self adhesive, and I'm not sure if the backing paper will be as durable as needed. Backing it onto wood might make it too expensive so any tips for getting the glue off without mucking up the tile itself?

These look pretty cool; are they textured at all?
-
Yes, very slightly but from what I saw they also have texture hinted at with the print. I'll pop back and take photos of them to give a better idea.
Here's the flagstones:

The blog has been updated to include them all.

Excellent - B&Q did some soft vinyl tiles in a cobblestone pattern, but they weren't really to scale and they discontinued them years ago. These look a more than worthy replacement. Off to Wilkos at the weekend then!

Gosh, those look great!
<Sigh>. And to think I bought a load of textured Plasticard not that long ago... :'(
-
Guess I'll be off to Wilko's a the weekend then, thanks for the heads up.

I have the old GW vinyl roads, just wondering how easy a town would be with a mix of both.

You can also get some in Poudland which do the job.

I have used the Oxford Blue floor tiles from homebase to make my rivers
http://shedwars.blogspot.co.uk/2012/06/river.html
Other tiles in the range can be used for all sorts of things

The texture and colour are perfect for water, otherwise they'd take ages. 8)
