Title: Barbed wire?
Post by: Prof.Witchheimer on October 05, 2012, 11:44:23 PM
Need just something like that for 28mm terrain. Any ideas how to make or where to buy?

Cut strands of fly wire door screens - i use it all the time to make effective looking barbed wire scenery.

For an example: http://shelldrakewargames.blogspot.com.au/2007/03/mine-field.html (http://shelldrakewargames.blogspot.com.au/2007/03/mine-field.html)

Yep, that's how the 3T guys does it too.

There's also this more labour intensive/more realistic version: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iJtKbgTkZOY

it is labour intensive, but not that much. in an hour of work i made more than 3 meters of wire (unwrapped, of course), and the effect is simply great. if you want a REALLY realistic one you should find a crazy thin wire, though

using pliers to distantiate the spikes will make everything much faster! and if you bend the wire appropriately you won't need to use the crazy glue!

EDIT: Found this html version, it is the same than in the video, for whom is not interested on watching the whole video:

http://www.gamesacademy.it/forum/TUTORIAL-Filo-spinato-m4303.aspx
It's in italian, but it's not very relevant. Still i think that the glue is not necessary.

Pegasus makes a plastic barbed wire that you can bend into concertina wire.
Gale Force Nine, Warlord Games and Games Workshop all make the wire-wrapped-wire version, with GW's coming in concertina form.

Pegasus also makes pre-painted "straight" barbed wire 6" sections.

There's also brass etched wire (http://www.hfminis.co.uk/shop?category=accessories~etched-brass-%28architectural%29).

I have made wire out of aluminium mesh (used for car repairs). It turned out rather nice.

This is what I used, very good value for money, and seems to last forever

the 1/35th scale works well with the larger 28mm figures, looked great in my STALKeER project with your figures

I use 1/48 model barbed wire. I can get you a link if you want. A bit more costly, but you dont have to do the work. I prefer to get it ready made, and spend my time for something else hehe.

Eduard 1/48 Barbed Wire

http://www.modelhobbies.co.uk/shop/eduard-barbed-wire-metres-28010-p-24450.html

They also carry Pegasus and Plus Models brands of the same stuff.

Good vendor, I have used them several times, no problems with shipping or anything else, comparable prices and good service.

Isn't that the same stuff as the other photo-etched product links already posted? Unless by "Rolls Royce" you mean "most expensive" however; then I agree!  lol

I havent looked at the other links, I just made a suggestion to a internet vendor that I use my self for model and hobby products. If you think you have a better supplier, by all means, post about it.
