So, in the words of a great man, "I ain't got too much money. No sir, not too much money at all." But I am undeterred. In fact, I find the process of creating terrain and models out of junk on the cheap actually adds an extra element of fun.
With that in mind, here is a building I originally made as part of Roebeast's Trash Bash, which has outlived the rest of the project. The body is made of three layers of packaging styrofoam which I scavenged out of a dumpster at work (I work in a hospital pharmacy, and we throw out a lot of foam packaging). The dome and roof are a blister pack from an Androidz toy which I bought in Poundland; I roughly cut the foam to the right shape with a utility knife, then hid the joins with several layers of polyfilla mixed with PVA glue. Doors are scrap card and the decorations come from surplus decals (a Soviet bomber, if I recall correctly) and signs printed from toposolitario. The radar dish came from another Poundland toy, which also provided missiles for one of my HotT armies and an APC for my sci-fi guys. Total cost of materials, therefore, is probably something like £0.10.

So, as you can see, it is not the world's greatest piece of terrain, but my priority is generally to fill a tabletop quickly and cheaply rather than to produce works of art -- that's what my schedule, budget and gaming habits dictate, and frankly I don't think my talents lie in the direction of detailed modeling anyway. I don't have the patience.

I think it's well. Enough detail for it's size and the glowing number above the door is a nice addition. You youl always add some posters or bullet marks if more detail is desired.

Looks good to me. Great use of "throwaways" & cheap toys. I've gotten some gems at our dollar store.

Its a good functional piece of scenery, showing you don't have to spend a fortune to populate your table with good looking stuff.
Detailing is often the thing that helps bring a piece to life, & as toy soldier obsessives we all tend to have piles of sprue from old kits, spares & card around the house - all are massively useful in adding a bit of sparkle to that chunk of polystyrene or box.

I'm always more interested in seeing what people do with junk and scraps than hearing about new commercial terrain or models -- not that I don't like seeing people's paintjobs, but ideas I wouldn't have thought of myself are priceless. I made about a jillion barrels after Ironworker posted his blog article about making them, and they're great.

Grand, excellent in fact - this is how I plan on doing my Terrain for Mega City One!

It's great to see that you're using this on the tabletop. Part of getting Trash Bash started was to get more people to use their own creations in their games. Hopefully you'll join us again next time.
And I'm currently working on some buildings for Mega City 1 as well! It's a great way to use up all of the sci-fi looking bits I've been collecting over the years.

Great work. I am a fan of terrain made from rubbish (most of my collection lol). Your building looks great.

It looks great, mate.
Does exactly what it says on the tin.
Junk modelling: It cant be beaten!
;)
Looking forward to your next creation.

I can only echo this sentiment! Also, your terrain looks really great - so I think you're on the right track in this regard! :)

Looks good and you can't beat the price. :D
