Title: Wrecked BMP-3 28mm
Post by: 6milPhil on 16 October 2012, 04:24:50 PM
I'd been looking at doing a wreck suitable for my Jihadistan table for a while and I finally got it finished using an Imprint Model BMP-3. It was inspired by wrecks in Afganistan, which feature in a lot of documentaries but after seeing "Afghanistan- The Great Game" in May I was hooked, or possibly obsessed in that way which we so often are.

I've been looking for that rust effect from modelmasters, but to this day, the local modelshop doesn't carry it.  :( (they do carry the other modelmates stuff)

Is the Vallejo one any use?
Boyes in Scarborough usually have, dust, oil, assorted grime.

Dunno.
I do have the Lifecolor "Dust & Rust" set, which I have yet to use, but I did have one of those rust colors already and it's very good. (nice color and it dries very mat). I also have MiG pigments rust.

The modelmates solution just looks better and simpler and I really want to try it out sometimes.

Have you seen ak interactive weathering products? IMHO They looks better than modelmasters stuff.

What an excellent looking piece of terrain... and a subject most gamers would balk at, miscast or not.  :)

That's a really nice wreck you have there Phil! I remember watching the same series and the vids of the blown up tanks, seems downright eerie they are just left there to rot.

Looks a lot like the lifecolor set I have except AK comes with 2 dark shadow tones while lifecolor comes with 2 dust tones.
Nevertheless, I still want to get my hands on that rust fluid. It just looks so simple to use.
Yes, you may call me lazy  :D

Why not just order it direct from modelmates or one of their dealers?

Ultimately, I guess I will. I just think it's nice to support the local model shop(s).

I can't recall exactly otherwise I'd have mentioned it - it was a bargain though, email Bob.

Great pj - extremly convincing!
Too bad there's no BMP-1 in 28 mm scale: I spend some time riding it during army service.

Stunning work, Phil!
I really like the rust effect and the Modelmaster site makes it looks easy as hell :)
Inspiring, so thanks! :-*

I have the Modelmasters "Rust in a jar".
It works great and does have a -life like- effect. I use two to three layers and add a bit of orange dry brush to highlight some parts. Works great! (saves a lot of time for just 3.- pounds!!)
