Title: Has anyone painted Trollcast?
Post by: Roebeast45 on 16 October 2012, 10:01:57 PM
I keep hearing about a casting process called Trollcast that sounds just like spun-cast resin. Has anyone here painted any Trollcast pieces and if so what are your thoughts? I've been looking at their new Kickstarter campaign and am curious about the material. I'd like to know more before I commit to the campaign.

Never tried it myself but there are a couple of threads on LAF where people have shown it. They've generally been impressed from what I've seen.

It's spin cast plastic though, not resin. Or at least, that's what the company site says.

It's spun-cast resin. Here (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1H-O0vDaKPA&feature=share) are more details about it from the man himself.

As for taking paint... I struggled to find examples, but have heard it takes paint well.

I painted one of the Frothers charity figures cast in it a couple of months ago. Never did anything special apart from a quick wash in soapy water the same as a I do for resin figures. Even has the advantage of gluing solid to a resin base with just superglue and no need to pin
