Title: Freebooter miniatures' anniversary on indiegogo
Post by: Njall on October 17, 2012, 11:58:09 AM
I couldn't see anything about that so I thought I'd make a thread : Freebooter Miniatures celebrates its 10 year anniversary with several limited edition miniatures.

Couldn't help myself.... just had to sign up for this.

Their goal was 5000 USD, they acheived that within 28 hours.  They are currently on 19,600+, with 28 days to go  :o

Oh yes, I'm in!

I've stood strong and resisted all the current overwhelming Kickstartering and Indiegogoizing madness, but this got my piratical dander up. It's no Reaper Bones, but there should be some lovely models in there by the end for an excellent little skirmish game.

Thanks for the plug and for the conrtributions. Just to keep you updated: Stuff has most definitely been happening since the launch. Not only did we achieve the minimum funding within 28 hours, we have by now made the first six stretchgoals and are just short of achieving no. 7.

This means that you can now obtain the successor to our recently discontinued Goblin Captain and the main pledge level of Captain has now grown to include 8 miniatures instead of the initial 6, plus upgraded arms, alternative heads and a skeletal powder monkey companion for the mysterious pirate.

Just a few more pledges and we will have achieved the next stretchgoal – a mercenary character who will allow you to field an all-mercenary crew.

Ta very much to everybody who has helped us get this far.

@ Njall:

You can find some information about the Freebooter's Fate game on the official website here (http://www.freebooters-fate.de//Home_en.html). :)

Well I was thinking more of the limited characters than of the game, following the Freebooter forum can be a little difficult at times as I don't speak one word of Goethe's language :o

Anyway, an update : there is now a "Codex" pledge ( US$ 90 ) with : rulebook (German or English), playing cards, 1 starter set, 1 Legendary character.. and free shipping.

Hi there

We are now entering the final week of our 10-year anniversary Indiegogo project (http://www.indiegogo.com/FreebooterLegends) and so we thought it was time to make some changes for the final stretch.

First of all, we have added a new perk. It is a well-known fact that we at Freebooter Miniatures love us some shiny metally goodness. So we thought about whether there was any way of making the miniatures even shinier and, um, more metally. And we have found one. The result is a version of the Freebooter goblin captain cast in solid fine silver (935) for the serious collector. Not just silver-plated: solid silver. They are engraved with their individual number and highly limited, so make sure you get your single-digit one now.

Moreover, we have reworked the perks with the painted miniature, because we appear to have set the pledge amounts too high the first time round. These perks now contain a single miniature, painted either by Rafael Urbanski or Jennifer Haley. Jennifer has also kindly agreed to paint any miniature from the Indiegogo campaign, including, if you want, any additional modifications from stretchgoals achieved at campaign end (excluding separate sidekick characters on separate bases).

So, if you haven’t seen it yet, go to http://www.indiegogo.com/FreebooterLegends (http://www.indiegogo.com/FreebooterLegends) and have a look around. Have we mentioned that most of these miniatures are highly limited? Pledge now and save yourself the agony of missing out.

Gotta say, that I'm really surprised by the cool reception this has had on LAF!

Is it the price? The sculpting style? Both? Something else?

I personally love Klocke's sculpts, and his own miniatures line is especially sharp. I have to admit that given the funds I'd just buy all his figures, but alas; I instead had to "settle" for the Amazons!  :D

Also, since morkin seems to be posting here, a quick question:

If you pledge at the "Captain" level, do you pledge additional "Deckhand" levels if you want Marco, Houngan or Ragg?

I'm not morkin, but yes, that's how it's done.

I'm likewise a bit surprised by the lack of fanfare and gonfalons here on LAF about this - this was definitely the Kick/Indie of the year for me. Reaper Bones was impressive, but ultimately no need: I already have a mountain of unpainted figs. But more quality Klocke lead to push about: that's exciting!

I'm very tempted but $100 for 8 figures seems a lot of money. I'm still watching though and may jump in before it's over.

That $100 will get you 11 figures I think, with lots of optional extras (heads, melee/ ranged weapons), plus a couple of minis that go onto the bases of the figures.

Only 4 days left.....  and another 3 figures up.

Well, the price per miniature is high, but so is the quality. And by that, I don't just mean the sculpt; I mean the casting quality, flash, and general fit of the parts.

Every model I've had from Freebooter has been a pleasure to put together.

Agreed. Perfectly produced minis; a modeler's dream. And they come with scenic bases.

I know it's not for everybody, but I think Freebooter are doing it right.

Don't forget the free shipping worldwide. :D

Hiya

Thanks for all the kind words. Sorry, I couldn't post on this more often, but this kind of stuff really keeps you busy if you have a day job as well. I'm glad to see nobody was left in the lurch anyway, as the question posed some days ago was expertly fielded by tomogui. Ta for that.

So, this is probably going to be the final update, as we have fewer than 36 hours to go. So what is new?

First of all, a big thank you to all contributors so far. We are currently at USD 67,000. Wow. There are still a couple of stretchgoals ahead, though.

Some news about postage: every contributor to the Indiegogo campaign will receive free shipping on any order from our online shop to be shipped at the same time as their Indiegogo stuff. Just use your Indiegogo name in the comments field when placing your standard order.

Also, we are now up to 12 miniatures (6 main characters and 6 sidekicks) and various add-on bits for USD 100 with the most popular perk.

All 10 main characters are now available and even two individual characters from the lowest perk level have received free upgrade bits. And yes, if you want all characters you have to pledge for the Captain set and the remaining individual Deckhand characters separately.

So, if you haven't been yet or if it's been some time, go have a look at what will only continue to be on offer for less than two full days now.  Here's the link: http://www.indiegogo.com/FreebooterLegends

Yes, it's an excellent result!

I wonder if there will be any post-KS-freebies as a thank you? I know Mantic and others have do so previously, and I also note that we very nearly filled out the bottom of the "Captain" level chart...  :P

I was wondering exactly the same thing, Major. Freebooter have always been a very friendly and informal company, so they well may throw in something as a thank-you.

The only thing that makes me suspect otherwise is that I think they've run out of ideas/sketches for the moment! We rocketed past 80,000 with no further stretch goal in sight; maybe the well is dry?

I decided to support this one simply because of the quality of the sculpts. I'm not sure I'll use them for gaming, but it'll be a pleasure to paint them I'm sure. :)
