I wasn't sure where to post this ... but i thought you might like to see...
Those Nice folks over at The Forum of Doom (http://"http://forum-of-doom.com/index.php") are having a new painting competition. The Unofficial Diorama of Doom 2012 (http://"http://forum-of-doom.com/index.php?topic=16325.0") is being organised by my good friend Inso (http://"http://forum-of-doom.com/index.php?action=profile;u=496") on behalf of the forum.
The last time i entered this competition (and indeed its the only painting competition I've ever entered) I came second by a whisker. So I have some sort of title to defend! Ha! (http://"http://brandlin.blogspot.co.uk/search/label/DoD-IV")
The theme of the 2012 competition is ADVERSITY .
I have a couple of ideas for this competition, my first is based on the Hasslefree Miniatures (http://"http://www.hfminis.co.uk/") "Scooby Gang" miniatures. showing them 'before (http://"http://www.hfminis.co.uk/shop?product=gang-and-dog~hfn016&category=miniatures~non%252dcoms-%26-civilians")' and 'after (http://"http://www.hfminis.co.uk/shop?product=post%252dapoc-gang~hfa093&category=miniatures~adventurers")' Adversity (or as it is more commonly known, 'the Zombie Apocalypse').
I came up with a name for this piece:
"Shortly after Mystery Inc discovered that the Brain Devouring Zombie of Hawkins Manor wasn't Old Man Jacoby the Caretaker in disguise, Velma instigated the 'shoot first, unmask later' protocol."
I suspect this may not fit on the base though, so I'll probably shorten it to:
"Shoot First, Unmask Later"
Progress so far ...

Very funny!
I love those minis and your paint jobs look great!
-
Great job! Richard
-
Yea, I love those figures!
-
The figures are amazing. I also really like the "shoot first, unmask later" protocol... lol
-
Great!! love the paint jobs
-
Cracking idea and lovely brushwork!
I think that the full title should be depicted somewhere on the diorama, though.
:-*
One small question: Is there anything the not-Shaggy has about his person that would prevent him being usable in the 1920's?
I love the figure but am unsure what he has on his webbing/belt.
-
Lovely painting on those figs particularly the scooby's !
-
Great work! :-*
-
Absolutely love this project. Can't wait to see the rest of the gang. :)
-
Thank you for all the positive comments guys.

Shaggy has an automatic in a close holster on his right hip. Everything else on the webbing are just pouches.
Hope that helps.
-
Lovely painting, very nice!
-
Great job.
Well done!

I was thinking the same thing, I want someone in the group I have to perhaps have a Battle Axe, the fire axe works well....the semi auto pistol is ok, that could be a standard 45.
-
Looking good mate, I need to get these sets! :D
-
Great looking models, I'm painting the same ones atm for a friend to use in his ATZ setup.

You could sell those!
Lovely looking minis.

just picked these up myself. Are you able to share your paint schemes for the figures. They look amazing.
-
I just ordered the right side set of figures from Hasselfree last week. Your painting is awesome. Thanks for sharing.

Real life interfered and I was unable to complete the diorama on time. Nevertheless, I'm continuing very slowly.
Progress recently.

The luggage rack is necessary to hide the "surprise" on the other side!
-
Now you need a "Mark II Mystery Machine" - ALA Dead Reckoning!
-
Still plugging away incredibly slowly...

touching up to do glassesand goggles are just undercoated and YES i can see the huge great mould line now thank you!
Reverse pictures also on my blog.
Next up Fred ...
-
It's not a mold line, it's a scar ;)
-
Nice work.
Slowly?-Maybe?
But worth it in the end?- Oh, yes!
-
I just ordered my set and the van for my Zombicide game!
-
By the by, the guys at Hasselfree are AWESOME! I went to order the set over the weekend and PA 'Fred' was out of stock, so they sent a general email that they now have them back and so I emailed to see if I could add him to my order before it shipped. HF replied very fast and said they had a small problem with one of the other items I ordered and that there would be a delay. And they would send me the Fred mini for free to compensate me!
Not just great sculpts, GREAT customer service!

Looks fantastic Mate, but 2 things.
1) What kind of stencil did you use to paint the MM?
2) Did you think about doing some black outline on it? I think if you did, the whole van would just POP!
Cheers!

Cheers!
I used frisk film to do the stencils. I did try paper but the 'temporary' glue wasn't so temporary. I also managed to put the stencils on backwards! So the purists amongst you will notice that the green/blue curve on the lower half is reversed which then means the orange flowers are in the wrong places!
The orange words and flowers are homemade decals. In a couple of places the black outline is rubbing off too :(
The whole story of this build is on the forum of doom thread here ... http://forum-of-doom.com/index.php?topic=16338.0 (http://forum-of-doom.com/index.php?topic=16338.0) which discusses the whole black lining options. I just haven't got round to it yet!

Cheers mate! I was thinking of using liquid mask and then cutting it out with an xacto... But I'll read up on what you did!
My van arrived today, its..... a LOT smaller than I expected. I thought it'd be more 1/43 which I think is perfect for 28mm, but it was much closer to my PA 1/64 Matchbox's....
Then I realized I never saw a pic of your HF minis and the Van.... lol

Drop me a pm with your email. If I can find them, I'll forward you the files I made for the frisk film. They weren't a perfect fit, but they were a huge help.

PM sent!

A suggestion:
HF makes the scooby gang 'improved' with weapons. I think they'd get a better ride. I'd go with a van, schoolbus, or maybe one of those VW van/bus things, make it appropriate for zombies/post-apocalypse (spikes and armor welded on) then paint 'Mystery Machine II' on it.
-
Very nice. :-* I had a similar thought when I saw the mystery machine & zombie survivor version of the gang. Now I have some more motivation get painting. :)
-
BTW, the model toys my children had of the mystery machine had an orange stripe along the sides. I didn't notice that most of the show's images I had pulled up on the web. Any one know if the mystery machine had more than one paint job?

My original intention was to 'up armor' the original MM, much that sae way the characters weap'd up without going say, paramilitary....
I think this will be an AWESOME group for my Zombicide game, with special scenarios.
-
note that you haven't been shown the other side of the van yet :p
-
Lovely work. Liking that Mystery Machine a lot. I hope I can get mine to look half as good. This project inspired me to paint my gang for my Zombicide games. I look forward to seeing it all together.

My Unofficial Diorama of Doom entry for 2012. Yes i know its 13 months late.. but i got there in the end
Needs some better pictures but I hope you all like this.

That is übercool!
-
Superb :-* :-* :-*
-
At least you finished! Great work Brandlin. :-*
-
LOVE IT! The 'only' thing I could see as a small missed opportunity would be the base. I like the dark grass and green grass on each side, but I think it would have been over the top had you also modeled an intact/post apoc roadway that the MM was on. Aside from this very small detail, I am flabbergasted! :)
-
Is this the armorcast model? Mine looks 20mm not 30mm...
-
A wonderful precise paintjob, such crisp and brightly looking colours! :-*
A good Idea perfect executed, Ace!
-
Wonderful, simply wonderful!
Love the dual aspect, really well executed.
:-* :-* :-*
And damn clever too, I might add.

Fantastic!
Really well executed too!

Wicked cool! Brilliant concept and superb execution.
Plus 'Slayer Velma' looks hot... :-*

Thank you all for your comments :-) glad you like it.

That was part of my plan but i couldn't fit on the base i had and I have tired to take a 'finish stuff' approach rather than having so many half finished projects. I'm Glad you like it.

Yes it is. Read the rest of the thread for WIP shots and details.
