Title: Looking for vultures ...
Post by: Admiral Benbow on March 12, 2008, 08:05:11 PM
Some time ago I've seen a very nice 28 mm vulture figure, either here in one of the topics, or as a link to one of the manufacturers. Can't find it now, so would be glad if anybody could help ...

Thanks,

Amazon makes one:

If there are other ones, I'd gladly know about them too. Flying ones would be particularly nice.

Crocodile games might have something in their Aegyptus range.

Otherwise I think Steve Barber models have (had) some.

eBay item 140152291649 (vulture waiting) or
eBay item 140152291994 (vulture feeding) and each figure cost US$1.00

Hope this helps and good luck  8)

There is a pack of "birds of Prey" from Mega Minis that gives about 6 different birds (12 pieces) IIRC for $USD 7.50, about to undercoat mine for African scenarios.

The Wyrd miniatures one is cool. GW make a plastic vulture on their Giant sprue - if you know any Warhammer players you might be able to blag their spares ;)

The advantage of the plastic one is that it looks a bit smaller than the Wyrd one, so might be a better scale for wild west.

DeeZee miniatures do pack of vultures. Available from Wargames Illustrated's website (scroll down to see 'em):

I picked a pack up a while back. Five in a pack for £4.50, quite nice, and come with seperate heads so you can get some variety to the poses, although all come with wings half outstretched.

Not painted any yet though.

Seems like Reaper had one in one of their familiar packs, I think I have one somewhere, and it is pretty darn good looking.

I did a quick job on the Mega Minis vultures for use as objective markers etc.

They are very cheap and the service from Mega Minis is always great.  Only two sculpts available though.

Its the same as the vulture on Nicodem here:

Wyrd stuff is 30mm, but there isnt really a lot of difference in size between them and most figures out there I find, its just that they are maybe a bit more honest about it :)

Nicodems base is 30mm diameter, so that should give you an idea of how big that vulture is.  Quite a bit larger than the Megaminis guys I suspect.

If you are using them for the West, I would recommend the Turkey vulture.  Black with a naked red head and white bill.  The underside of the primary flight feathers should be a light or maybe medium gray.

There's also this one, but it's probably even bigger than the old one:

Vultures are pretty darn big,  :o so bigger isn't a bad thing.

Had a turkey vulture perch for a while in a tree out back a few years ago.
For reference, the on on the Nicodem mini up there must be a baby.

I picked up a few of the ogre kingdom tusker vultures from bitz sites.  They are rather nice models.
