At NWA (www.nwa.org.au), we usually cap off the year with a big Gaslight game, so I've been digging out my Arab Army and fixing it up.
The theme is a Jihad that has revolted against oppressive colonial forces (played by Fuzzy) and uses hit-and-run tactics to make up for a lack of technology.
So yeah, get ready for another slow burn VSF spread that doesn't update that often ;D

First off the blocks, a unit of Dervishes to soak up some British fire.
To tide you over, here's a couple of pics of the army's last outing:

A big GASLIGHT end of year game... Sounds good to me.
I have my land-locomotive (the Marshal Ney) that hasn't been on the table yet and an even bigger and stranger vehicle that has been awaiting a coat of paint on my table for some time now (yet to be seen by any other than myself). It's a counter to the Prussian aerial threat.
-
Wait, where did they come up with a 'nef?
There will be questions put, I'm sure!
Not to worry, I shall be most patient, and throw a tantrum only once or twice a day, waiting updates... :D
Bigger AND stranger? I believe I have a tantrum coming already!

Reports indicate that the Areoneff used by the al-Ghariyyan group matches the description of an "Areo-Tug" reported stolen from a merchant shipyard. ;)
-
Yes the Prussian aerial threat has been a major concern to her majesties forces for a while now. The Royal navies limited aerial forces have been strecthed thin covering our assets on earth and the mars and venus colonies.
Now we see the smelly cheese eating frogs taking to the field in amazing steam contraptions and fanatical arabs seeking new technology to complement their deadly magical forces.
But have no fear my fellow countrymen the dockyards of southampton have not been idle. Even as we speak new vessels are being built which will take to the air to clear the sky of these belligerents and restore the pride of her majesties navy.
Cheers Fuzzy ;)

Finished touching up my Steam-Automaton, "The Word".

It's a converted Warmachine Cygnar warjack, though I forget which one.

He looks great!

Looks like a Sentinel.

Nothing finished this week, but I did get some new stuff undercoated and assembled.

Jihadi with rifles and a flying carpet.
-
Flying carpet... I like that.
Mayhap you'll have to make a large wall-to-wall flying carpet dreadnought to combat the Prussian dominance of the aether.
-
Flying Carpets!! More magical devilry! >:(
Cool
:D

Fuzzy
What he said... lol
Between a number of stories where the carpet was used for clandestine entrances, and an occasional flying carpet race course, I tend not to think of them as 'military'. Now, espionage is another matter, altogether!
You will admit, I hope, I've been most patient: no tantrums. However, the thread continues to delight, and the mere threat of a brew up brought out Melnibonean's tasty Mother Ship.
Just better and better!

At our club, historically games have involved a Jihadi /French alliance but I'm not sure which way the wind blows this year. I suspect the Prussians may be making and appearance in the upcoming battle... And I can't see them in any alliance with the hated "Franzosen." (Thank you Babel Fish - Blame them if it's incorrect)
-
Got the second unit of Dervishes finished.
Hopefully something less V and more SF soon.
-
Looking good.
You need those basic troops. You can't hold ground with a flying carpet!!!

According to Fuzzy, the rule for this Friday's game is "If you've built it, it goes on the table", so I've changed from a painting frenzy to an assembly frenzy:

Behold! Steam-powered War Trousers! Sandworm Cavalry! Anti-Areoneph Platform!
Can anyone tell I'm pretty sick of being outgunned? lol
-
The sandworm cavalry is brilliant!

"Take up the kiswa maker hook of our sietch and ride as a leader of men."

Love the sandworm cavalry. What weapons did you add to your warpants?
-
I've already stated how I've misjudge the original toy for the walker. Should have scooped up every one I saw. You're work only re-proves that!
Sandworms, what's not to love?
And what is that destroyer-of-'nefs? Are those Easterling minders? lol
Doug
-
Thanks guys! The War-Trousers have been armed with a gatling-cannon and a couple of large rockets to give the army a bit more shooting punch.
Only the bravest (or most foolhardy) Bedouin riders tackle the Juvenile Martian Sandworms, steering them with hooked poles into terrified ranks of the enemy's troops.
The Worms are Reaper Bones Purple Worms and the riders are Perry Plastic Dervishes with Warzone plastic heads. The hooks and weapons are scavenged from the bits box.
And the Anti-Neff platform is an unfortunate necessity, to deal with scenes like this:

Dopey moi for not recognizing the Imperial heads, but my eyesight is poor enough, I thought the three lads on the right were actually on the gun platform. Flat helmets do look a little like Easterlings, though what I thought was simple mouth coverings were gas masks totally inappropriate to LotR. lol
Also, wondered a bit as to what the 'nef killer gun is made up of. (Spank me for dangling preposition.) Again, think I should know the pieces, but not scrying them out.
Doug

The guns are from a Dust Konigsluther Beast. The rest is made up of bits a pieces I had lying around, you know how it is. ;)
-
The game on Friday was great Gaslight madness with a veritable smorgasbord of scratch built tanks ,land ships and aeronef. We Only got through a few turns but for once the Prussians were the worst off despite their uber gunned vehicles.
Actually I was glad everyone wasn't ganging up on the Brits for a change ;)
I should be able to post some pictures soon
-
Looking forward to seeing pics!
-
Finished another unit, the fearsome Jinn! Ancient warrior Persians summoned to fight for their homeland once more.
Also pictured is the Jihad's top engineer, Professor Malcolm X, an American traitor converted to Islam.
I should note that on a lot of these figures, all I'm doing is new basing and touch-ups, but I may as well post them all here.
-
I forgot to take any photos. I really wish I had taken a couple of snaps of the fearsome clockwork Pork Bombs (really, a pic of Tom's face when he found out what they were about to do).
-
The Great Colonial Traitor, El Laurence, leads his fearsome Mutawa bodyguard into battle.

Dig the colors!

Recently a surveillance photo was taken of one of the Jihad's most fearsome weapons:
Known as the "Electric Camel Drum", this sonic weapon is unreliable, but powerful.
-
Now that is fun!
-
Sorry for the threadomancy, but I finished another artillery piece:
The Bedouin Soundclash device can vibrate apart vehicles over short ranges.
And for those who don't get the joke:

Don't consider it such when less than a month since last update, and such a lovely one at that. ;)
Have to check out the video when next on more reliable bandwidth. University has plenty, but seeing same through dodgy VDM.

Wait, your lads have hand-tinted surveillance photographs? How p'osh!

By order of the prophet
We ban that boogie sound
Degenerate the faithful
With that crazy Casbah sound
But the Bedouin they brought out
The electric kettle drum
The local guitar picker
Got his guitar picking thumb
As soon as the Sharia
Had cleared the square
They began to wail

Epic Threadomancy, for which I apologise :( but it is progress on the same topic.
Bedouin Battle Trousers have been spotted undergoing tests deep in enemy territory.

This new weapon is heavily armed and a tad more reliable than Professor Malcolm X's previous efforts.
-
The Battle Trousers are super cool!
Great army you are building here! :-*
-
Never mind the threadomancy, as it allows those new to these boards (like me) to see some beautiful things.
-
Nice work.
I really like this project thread
I think I might have missed this thread the first go around!
I am glad you added to it.
:D
-
Looks great James. The increase in armament from the Arabs is a worry for her majesties forces.
If I can offer some advice, a couple of large Arabic flags fastened on the back of that walker would be icing on the cake.
Cheers Fuzzy.

Exactly what von lucky said.
That soundclash thing is ace. And I love the battle suit.

Methinks you may well like the Sons of the Desert company in the upcoming supplement to IHMN - Heroes, Villains and Fiends :D
Nicely done Sir, nicely done.

Looks like we need to set up a skirmish in the Casbah sometime soon.
