At the forthcoming BLAM I will be running a post-apoc based game "It Came From The Desert". I don't want to give too much away about it yet, but it will be set in a desert (Mad Max-ish) wasteland, with small groups of survivors competing or collaborating for survival.
As it was a rather last minute decision to run a game I intend using mostly miniatures and terrain I already have built & painted. It has however given me the impetus to finish off a few items that have been sat on a shelf for far too long.
First off is the Ainsty derelict school bus: http://ainstycastings.co.uk/product_info.php/products_id/480/osCsid/70955481bf6f14bb98de5e44617bb922

(I bought this when the late Mike Brooks was running Ainsty and started painting it years ago....)

This year is a shame for me. Missed to much good thing. No chance to come to the BLAM.
Some Questions to you:
1. Do you use the 7TV-Rules for your Game?
2. After the BLAM some Photos for me (and the rest of the LAF)?
-
I remember the Amiga game "It Came From The Desert."
No spoilers, but is this going where I think it's going?

I not only remember it, I've still got it lol
Will be following this one for sure.
-
ooo - a new project! The bus looks great!
-
Nice bus :)
Looking forward to playing this next week Paul.

No, I'm using carefully researched/borrowed/made up bespoke rules, barely filling a page of A4 (in a largish font) :D
Hopefully there will be lots of photos of all the BLAM games here on the forum in the aftermath.

Funnily enough I played that on the Amiga too. It's possible some elements might be incoporated... ;)
Nice bus :)
Looking forward to playing this next week Paul.
Thanks. All a bit last minute I'm afraid. Full-on playtesting tomorrow evening, so I hope it does play alright... ::)

Next is the first of 2 emplacements from Snapdragon, now sadly OOP:

Great detailed castings. I painted them over a white undercoat instead of my more usual black. Nearly all the painting was then with washes and carefull drybrushing.

I LOVED the Snapdragon Stuff!
Great PJ's
-
I wish I had bought the Snapdragon stuff when I had the chance. Brilliant product. Too bad it has not passed on to other hands.
-
That snapdragon stuff is gorgeous. I'm surprised they never sold the company or anything?
Nice paintjobs paul. Someday I will strip some of my Ainsty scenery and get cracking on the Post-Apoc stuff again!
-
Great looking terrain pieces. They should come in handy in a great many games. Thanks for sharing.

Hitman

Nice work, what colours have you used for the sand?

I don't think my answer will help you to much...... lots of OOP paints
I used a white spray undercoat then a wash of Colour Party No63 (I don't have any left & not sure if it is still available?). When completely dry a drybrush with GW Bleached Bone, followed by a lighter drybrush with some white added.
I have also recently used GW Tau Sept with a drop of GW Gryphonne Sepia to replace CP63, in an attempt to colour match previously painted items.
-
Next is a tower. I built it some time ago to match the Snapdragon items. Just needed to touch up the paintwork a bit.

The next Snapdragon emplacement is nearly finished and I'm scratchuilding a compound entrance. Not helped by trying to cut the tip of a finger off with a brand new scalpel blade (at least it was a clean cut!)
-
That's a cracking match Paul! This is going to be another triumph! Hope the thumb heals soon too.
-
Very cool looking project so far. :-*
-
We've all been there with little scalpel accidents! Ouch :? I find with a sharp blade you don't always know you've cut yourself straight away. Hope you heel well enough that your dice throwing isn't impeded! ;)
Lovely work on the scenery.

:o :-*
That is brilliant.
-
FANTASTIC!
-
Great stuff!! :-* :-*
-
Only just caught up with the thread. Excellent stuff, can't wait to see it in just three days :o ;D
I still have my Ainsty bus and the Snapdragon barricades, all unpainted of course. :D
I like the tower idea to match the other stuff, consider that concept nicked. :)
See you Friday :)
-
Thanks for the comments. :D
An almost finished WIP of a compound entrance, built from a mix of odds'n'ends:

Painting will have to wait until Thursday night when I'm home. It wouldn't be BLAM if I wasn't painting something at the last minute!
-
Looking good, can't wait to see more.
-
Your stuff is excellent. At the GLAM two years ago, we talk about doing things. I think when I see your stuff it is not important how much thing you do, it is important to do one project. Hope we get a chance next Blam or Glam to make a game on your fantastic tables. Will you give we a hint what you are doing at the salute???
-
@NurgleHH.
I wish I was disciplined enough to follow a single project to its conclusion Dirk. Like many people I tend to flit from one thing to another. My Post Apoc collection is typical; I built the Mad Max tanker chase game and did a bit more scenery and miniatures, but have lots more I'd like to do including a group of vehicles I have and mostly converted already.
This has been a side project to put something on at BLAM at the last moment. At least it has got me to finish a few items that had sat half-painted for years. My Darkest Africa has been sidelined whilst I do this....
At Salute I will be helping out running games for Crooked Dice. The London Zombie table by AndyM being one of 5 quickplay games we hope to run. Its unlikely I will be providing scenery for them this time around.
More pics will have to wait until BLAM or after, as I've only just finished all the bits I need for the game tonight.
-
But you finish projects. I still hope to finish any project I started. Have fun at the blam. I wait for your next project-news
-
Glad to see I’m not the only one testing the efficiency of a new blade on himself… ;D
Nice work Overlord, the bits and pieces you’ve done greatly enhance the Snapdragon stuff and the elements you’ve build give the whole lot a "coherent" looks 8)

Thanks, I want to eventually build an entire compound to match. That was the idea when I started 5+ years ago.... ::)
In the meantime here are a few photos (phone quality I'm afraid) from the past weekend at BLAM:

Well done, sir. What did you use for the ants?

I wouldn't be surprised if they were Dollar Store plastics. I bought a bag of a hundred spiders last Halloween, each as small as a "pinkie" fingernail.
-
Really nice. I'm very impressed. :-*
-
Dr De'Ath's photos of the game are here:

Great project Paul 8)
This is the first I'd seen of this thread but it's a corker - definite Mad Max vibe.
-

Megaminiatures has some cheap ants that look like that...either that or he scored a find at the dollar store as someone else said.
-
Oh Paul, where can I get this small insect (ants)???
-
What did you use for the ants?
Ants! They came from Poundland (Pound/Dollar/Yen store) in among the Halloween items. A pack containing 25 ants, 25 spiders and 2 larger (but very poor & rubbery) spiders. All soft plastic, but fine on a base. Bases are 1 pence coins covered with pva & sand, then painted. Ants added with a dab of CA on each leg. I then dotted their eyes in with red. The spiders will fit onto 2 pence coins, whenever I get around to them.

I have to visit our local stores for such stuff!!!

this looked great in the flesh.. Eric :)

Not quite sure when I will continue building the rest of the compound......
-
Beautiful! You should build one for Andy to cast to add to his Flameblade range :)
Is that last section another Snapdragon piece? Damn I wish I'd bought some of those when I had the chance :(
-
Impressive!
:-*

Yes, its Snapdragon. They did a load of scatter cover, barricades, storage tanks, etc that I also have.
I don't know why Kerry never sold the masters/moulds when he stopped trading. I'm sure they would sell as, although a bit stylised, they have great detail and paint up very well.
-
Very nice. The terrain is awesome! :-*
-
Very nice!

Very nice work. Very inspirational. :-*
How did I miss this thread?? o_o
-
Fantastic Paul! I would even say they look better in real life!!
-
Keeps maintaining a fine level of detail, impressive :)
