Yikes, seems like just yesterday we finished the last one, but here we are again at the official annual Strange Aeons painting extravaganza known as BrushOff!
We're shaking things up a bit this year by adding a second category. As always, we'll be awarding the top three painted packs of official UMW miniatures; any pack will do! Our new category, Big Kits & Battles, will require to either paint up one of our large kits (Godling, Dark Puppeteer or Crypt of Cthulhu) - OR - a scene depicting a battle between one pack of Threshold and one pack of Lurkers. As always, you're free to enter as many times as you like, but do note that you may not submit the same models in both categories. You can, however, win in both categories, but you'll have to do it with unique entries!
Now, the meat of the matter: what are we giving away? Each category will award three prizes as follows:
- 1st Place: $30 UMW Webstore certificate, plus THREE unreleased models!
- 2nd Place: $20 UMW Webstore certificate, plus TWO unreleased models!
- 3rd Place: $10 UMW Webstore certificate, plus ONE unreleased model!
Once you have your entry painted up, staged and photographed, you can either post your image here, or send it to us as contests@strange-aeons.ca (or any other address you happen to have for us). We'll then add it to our Gallery, where it will be displayed among the competition. The contest closes at 11:59PM MST (GMT -7) on November 30th. Get thee painting!
-
Two weeks into November and I've received one entry? I hope this means there some doozies coming, getting special extra bonus attention from your feverishly painting brushes.... :D
-
Darn, I missed this post, I need to get busy!
-
I've already gotten the photos down, just need to crop and whatnot.
Not much hope of a win, but it was fun anyhow!!
-
I plan to enter, just been busy the past few days....going to do some touch ups and post what I think is the best of my current lot..
-
Well then...I just finished painting a pack of UMW figures. I'll have to take some better pics and choose one to enter!
-
Well, I was going to enter in this competition, but my order from UMW still hasn't arrived...I'm having bad luck with orders at the moment as I also have one lying around for three days waiting to be inspected by customs. So Im afraid I wont be able to make the deadline...better luck next time.
-
Not much time left...
-
After much consideration, I rebased all of my miniatures. So, I'll be shooting tonight and making all kinds of heroic-like stuff for you to gasp and ooh-and-aah over.
Well, I'll shoot at least. :)
-
Here is my effort.

I did not have much choice in this, as it is the only pack of Uncle Mike's figures that I have painted. (I have a few unpainted-Shame on me!)
-
I love the silver drybrush on the guns, Mason! I do the same thing myself!
-
Thanks Mason, your entry is now up in the gallery. The good news is the number of entries has doubled! Unfortunately, this means we've gone from one to two...
-
I'll be sending something in tonight or early tomorrow.
-
A shame I have 8 Agents and so many Lurkers...I could put in maybe 5 entries with all of my stuff had I more Agents!
-
I'll send in some too, although I really stink. Whatever I can do to help out the cause!
-
Once I am back from being out of town I will email you mine...I just have to snap the shots and such.
-
I'll be sending my pics by mail next wednesday or thursday.
-
Glad to see a few more entries coming. I was starting to worry...
-
Cultists I
-
Agents I
-
Agents III
-
Assorted Promos (Don't know if this counts...but I love the Ancient Warrior and TommyGun Dude the best of all my minis!)
-
Assorted Undead
-
Formless Thing (My second favorite, and we call it "It Which Speaks Only Of Om Nom Nom")
-
Category: Big Sets - Crypt Of Cthulhu w/ Bonus Chained Coffin!
-
Category: Battle Scenes! (Agents III vs. Cultists I)
"As the dark necromancer Rhogan summoned forth the creature without discernible form from the unknowable depths of the Black Well, the intrepid Agents surged forward, weapons at the ready. Despite the drug-crazed minions who would stop at nothing to foil the Agents, Threshold would not be defeated; they would seal the portal before the incantations were complete." ~ Tales of Threshold, An Unauthorized Biography
-
Alrighty, we're now up to 10 entries in the Single Pack category, and 8 in 'Big Kits & Battles'. Keep em' coming, and check out the competition in the BrushOff Gallery at http://www.strange-aeons.ca/photo/brushoff-2012/.
-
I totally missed the boat on this one.. Besides I only have one pack :'(
... And I gave half of it to friend Lol.
Still.. Any excuse to paint up an Aeon mini :D
-
Wow, put's my rushed lone-photo entry to shame... :(
-
Should be emailing mine tonight. snapped the photo's last night.
-
I saw that two of my pictures were clipped from the single pack side, I'm assuming since they were used in the "Fight Club" Photo. I misread the rules, but it's OK. I suspect I have no hope of beating out that tentacled car. Shit, I'm voting for that one my own bloody self. It's brilliant.
-
I dont expect to get anywhere at all with my Cultists, some of my worst figures, but just thought that I would support the competition.
Some good stuff in there!
-
I actually quite fancy them, Mason. Especially the color choices.
-
Here is my entry. Fishmen!

Just emailed mine over....
-
supervike, I love the infinite cosmos robes. supercool.
-
Also a big fan of those robes! Some great entries coming in now!!!
-
Hello!
There are so many great entrys!!
Thanks for the nice comments about my car Battle Scene !!!!!
I m not so content with the picture (it seems i m a better painter then Photograph ;) )
I like very much the head of the tentacled-whatever it is comming out of the ground.
There s a gloowy green eye looking right into the car hoping something yummmi falls out :)
I m glad the action comes out-i wanted to catch the moment of fear when the car is crashed the tentacles come from behind and theres no escape anymore.
Greetings from Germany
Florian

Love the robes on the Fishmen as well. I think I may actually strip my fishman back down to his...gills...and shamelessly steal that idea.
-
Yea, the robes are rather snappy...
-
My wife actually picked those Space-Robed Fishmen out as the best of them, based only on the robes! That turd! :)
I was looking at all of the "big kits" today and I have to say, the Crypt with the weathering, and the rust on the door, man do I love that one. It's really changed the way I think I want to paint buildings. I can do detail work fine, but I always try to make things "clean" and pretty. I never even considered weathering, like the rust on the door. And the base is f***ing spectacular. I mean, I never even considered basing the building like that.
I likely won't take any prizes, which means Mike will peel more of my hard earned money from my pocket...but it's worth it because of all the really brilliant ideas that have come out of this. Thanks to all for putting this great stuff up so I can steal your ideas, and eventually, become a better painter.
(I literally JUST, 5 minutes ago, put in an order for Zombies, a Winged Nightmare and some others from FRP Games (who have 10% off orders of 100$ or more, until the 1st))
-
Weird, one of my entries is not up yet...PM'ing our good friends... :D
-
I do believe those robes are going to have me buying a pack of fishmen.
-
Entry has been submitted by email...just in time.
Poor, poor agents...
-
Really lovely stuff in this thread & gallery (hadn't really looked at the SE scenics before)
@Vikey - love those robes! May have to root out my fishmen now.
Here's my entry, a couple of Scawny Ones ...

Cracking job on those eyes!
-
9 short hours remain!
-
Defeated by tyranny, time and an amusing incident with a group of Cultists, I didn't finish my planned submission but offer this one instead:

Well done, chaps!
:)
-
Indeed. Lots of photo goodness going on.
I particularly liked the threshold lady that had been converted into a zombie.
I'd also like to see some close ups of the minis in Wight wedding.
-
'Grats to the winners. Some inspiring stuff there.

Great looking entries! Congratulations to the winners. Next time I'll definitely enter the contest (as soon as my model arrives...still waiting).

I saw on Paul's Man Cave site the winners was posted, popped over and saw my name on the list! Wow, didn't expect to win, just wanted to add more entries to the lot. Great job all! Thanks Uncle Mike for hosting!

Very nice entries!
Congrats to the winners!
-
Like I said before, those Deep One robes are simple but really creative.
Awesome painting from all the entries.
The tenticle thing flipping over the car is plain sick. It reminds me of that Superman Action comic where he is picking up the car.
-
Congratulations to the winners, well done all of you :)

Great job to all! Wonderful work and it's great seeing so many people's interpretations on how things should look. LOVE IT!
