Title: Review: FoW "Open Fire"
Post by: moiterei_1984 on November 09, 2012, 10:21:44 PM
I just did a the first part of a review concerning the new "Open Fire" Starterset for Flames of War.

Because the box is full of stuff I decided to do the review in two parts. The first part yo're just reading (yes just now) covers the general content of the set while I'll deal with the miniatures in greater detail in the following part. At the moment I'm waiting for some decals and conversion bits for the tanks as I want to test the convertibility of the plastic tanks too (and also because I want to show you some painted up stuff too)...

Thanks for the review, good looking tanks and infantry too!  :)

I would buy the box in a second - unfortunately I already have all the forces included in resin or metal from other companies (OK, not the V1)... :?

Overall, this box set is an outstanding value, IMHO.  You are correct, the tanks have their detail and fit issues but the infantry are fantastic.  By far the worst thing with the STuGs is the way the muzzle flash goes together.  Very strange and I have no idea why it was designed that way.
Still, considered as a whole, the box set is well worth investing in.
As an aside, for those of you who order from the Warstore in the US, they are currently giving away a free sprue of the Open Fire infantry with every order.

I have a VERRRY n00b question - bear in mind I'm 100% new to Fow...

can I paint up the british tanks as americans? or are some of the characterictics of the tanks such, that only the brits were using these kind of shermans? TIA

The non Firefly Shermans can be used as US forces.

For your reference,, you can cross reference the British designation http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lend-Lease_Sherman_tanks with the American http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/M4_Sherman

i.e. the Sherman V is the M4A4
