Title: Need help picking my new pigsty
Post by: Remington on November 16, 2012, 09:54:14 PM
And no, I don't mean my flat, regardless of what evil voices claim!  :P

For a Dark Age village I am looking for a good pigsty... I have the following two pens from Grand Manner... Which one would you think would be more appropriate? Silly question I know!

The bottom one looks more like a chicken coop.
Would your pigs fit through the door?

The lower one looks more likely but to be honest any pig worth his salt is going to be through that wattle fence on about two minutes flat!

I've actually seen one finally going through planks with thickness nearly 2cm. She (she was at least a "200kg she") wanted to eat something at the other side of the planks ^^

to me, too, the lower one looks more like a chicken thing, so I also vote for the upper one. But - just in case! - buy both, cause where there are pigs, there soon will come chickens anyway.  lol

best wishes

Thank you for your replies, guys!!

Well, i own both of them already... That's why I've got the dilemma. :) Grand Manner have a third pen that would have probably suited the pigs better... Perhaps I should buy that as well, although it's still enclosed with wattle. An alternative would be to build one with sturdy fences. I'll probably have to google medieval animal pens.

I would go for the top one

I would assume that medieval pigs would be rather smaller than modern ones

Yes and no. We've been breeding pigs to be less hairy and fatter for a long time - long before the middle ages ages, and even if they were smaller than a modern large white or landrace they are going to weight at least as much as a wild boar, so well over 100kg. And they wouldn't be any less determined...

The first one.
