Hello chaps,
I was wondering if you could help me. I have bought some washers to base my miniatures on but the miniatures own bases are smaller than the hole in the centre of the washer. Which is the best way to get around this problem. Your help is greatly appreciated.

Thin sheet of plastic-card I'd say. Depending on the size and weight cardboard might suffice.
This would provide the strength needed.
That being said, I would be surprises if the hard-wars store wouldn't sell washers that would serve you purpose better.

I grabbed the washers that had an o.d. of 25mm. They are a 3/8 zinc washer, a 1/4 washer would have a smaller hole in the centre but would probably have a smaller o.d. Does the washer have to be 25mm o.d? I was just going off the regular GW base size.

1. the size of the outer diameter is really your choice and might depend on the ruleset that you're using. I normally use 25 mm as well.
2. the center hole size is dependant on the type of washer you use. There are several available as the following link will show : edit link redirects to homepage of hardware store. Sorry no relevant picture
You probably should look for 'mudguard' washers or 'fender' washers. The center hole in these is proportionally very small.

You can buy washers online really easily. If you search for "25mm washer M5" then you'll get what you need. The number that comes after the M is the diameter of the middle hole in mm.
Sticking that into ebay uk gives this as the first of several listings (never used this chap and didn't even check price, it's just to show what I mean).

I fill the hole with a mix of decorater's caulk and pva but everybody has their own method. There arecouple of threads on using washers for bases in the workbench area...

I always use TOOLNET (https://www.tool-net.co.uk/s-1374/fasteners/washers/penny-mudguard-repair--bzp-trade-pack-per-100.html), they also tell you the size of hole (in Imperial of course).

Maybe use coins instead?

I just cover the hole with a heavy paper or light card stock well coated with white glue. Then brush a couple of more coats of glue over the top. Then use glue to fasten the figure to the washer.

I have had no luck sourcing "mudguard" washers in Australia and opt for the normal type.
As mentioned I cut a small square from any of the thousands of types of clear plastic packaging (even the plastic packet the actual washers sometimes come in will do) most products come in these days and superglue that over the hole. Have done this for years and have never had any problems.
