Title: Kitbashed Arabic infantry
Post by: Engel on November 21, 2012, 09:24:55 AM
http://kampgruppe-engel.blogspot.se/2012/11/arabic-kitbashing.html

I had some left over bits from other projects and thought I could give this a go to maybe inspire someone to continue on this trail.

The body and heads are from Perrys plastic Ansar Mahadist, swordarm are from Perrys plastic Napoleonic Hussars and the shieldarm are from Victrix Napoleonics. The Shields are a mix of old GW shields and Piktish shield from Miniature Design Studio.

The emerging figures are a descent Medieval or Colonial era looking miniature.
Maybe they could be used for the Crusades or El Cid gaming without looking too far out of place?

A nice idea, but most Asian cultures went for lighter style shields than the rather clunky oak plank and leather used in Northern Europe. Most were variants of wax boiled hide and cane warped over a mould. There are some nice Middle Eastern/Afghan shields out there, and the Ansar ones are good but very distinctive looking. The Ancient and Medieval Persians used hide covered wicker - so Sparabara/Immortals or even Sassanid shields might be an interesting alternative

Thanks for the reply Sukhe_bator.
I agree those old GW shields look a little strange. I will see if I can something more suitable before I start painting.

I like the way these figures are posed :)

Thanks Sixmilletoe.

The miniatures are now painted and Im happy how they turned out. As I have no project to use them in they are somewhat lonely.  :'(

Atmospheric paintwork on some clever conversions, Engel!

Nicely done - I like the way you've pared down the plastic shields to make them more like Arabic 'Turs' - I've done much the same for the Wildlings in my Westeros project!
