I am finally launching myself down the historical wargamer path. Having dabbled with the semi-historical Very British Civil War, and toyed with Dark Ages SAGA, I have decided to embrace the genre fully with a French and Indian War project using the Tomahawks and Muskets rules. My regular gaming buddy, Leon, is a very slow painter, and has little interest in the historical wargaming, and so I have taken it upon myself to paint both sides of the conflict.
This is my first 'tester' model. I have based the paint scheme on the figures on the box of Warlord Games British regulars (although this figure is by redoubt). I have no idea which regiment this is supposed to represent, but as long as it looks cool I am, frankly, not that bothered (Preparing for a sharp intake of breath form the 'true' historic wargamers :P ).

I will be updating this thread as and when I have finished more figures.
Your comments are most welcome (so long as you don't tell me I have painted it completly wrong ;) )

Great stuff mate. With the yellow cuffs the can represent a few of the Regiments at the time so it's a great start.
List of the regiments.

Great work, the 44th and 46th iirc wore yellow facings and fought in the F&IW, so no inaccuracy there!

Great work! If you're anything like me, you will start out not caring what unit it is and just enjoy painting for a while. Then you see a movie or two, then start to read more on threads about painting different units. Before you know it you've got an Osprey (historical gateway drug) in your hands and you're finding out the actually history is more amazing than any fluff you've ever read.
So keep painting, he looks great!

just a thought- would the British light infantry have the same colour facing as the regular infantry?
-
They would normally have their usual regimental facings without any lace :)
Keep up the good work 8)

Some of the Light Bobs did remove the facings but it varied from unit to unit, even man to man

Is that a good bloody hell or a bad one?
I know your not into historical, but this is what we are going to be playing next year (along with VBCW, SAGA, Bolt Action and Force on Force) I think we are going to have to schedual in a few more gaming days. :D

Sorry to pester- but I am still a little confused. Lets say I painted my regular infantry (as I have done) with yellow facings, and called them 15th regiment of foot, for arguments sake: would the light infantry be from the same regiment and have the same facing, or would they be from a different regiment and have different facings?
Is their such a thing as a Light Infantry Regiment, or are the light infantry part of the main Regiment of Foot? Just want to clarify this before slapping paint on a Light Bob
-
Hi Rob,
From 1757 the French & Indian War saw the formation of light companies from the British regiments, so yes, generally speaking, they would wear their regimental facings but without regimental lace. The light companies would often serve detached from their battalion, in concert with other light companies when required (similarly to the practice with grenadier companies).
Additionally the 80th Foot were formed as Light Infantry and the 55th saw extensive service in a light infantry role.
I hope that helps :)
Cheers,
Lance

Here's a test of my Light Infantry for my British army. Many thanks to you wise people who gave me advice identifying the model and on the paint scheme.

Oups! forget to add, great paintjob on these figures 8)

Excellent painting on the Lt. Infantry.
One question, is he wearing gaiters?
If he is, you might want want to outline them below the knees.
-
Here are my British to date. I have done 12 Line infantry and 6 Light Infantry. Soon I will be adding some Indians, and eventually a commander and some 6 more Line, as in M+T you can have 8-12 in a Line infantry squad.

These minis are by redoubt, but my Indians are Galloping Major. I am delighted how compatable these minis are scale wise.
