Title: Skull and Crossbones decals
Post by: mysteriousbill on 26 November 2012, 03:37:21 PM
I'm about ready to finish my Black Legion and I need some small (to fit 25mm) skull and crossbones decals or transfers. Anybody have any ideas.

Tiny to fit uniform insignia on 28mm figures, or just small to fit 28mm banners and vehicles?

If small for vehicles/banners/etc is what you want, Company B has these, one white and one black sheet:

They're midway down the Company B decal page (http://035f399.netsolhost.com/companyB_decals.html) - Ctrl+F for "skull" is probably the fastest way to find them there.

Otherwise, maybe freehand?

(both off my own blog, SPAD here (http://www.warbard.ca/2012/02/22/a-spad-for-the-whites-part-two/) and armoured car here (http://www.warbard.ca/2012/05/17/armstrong-whitworth-armoured-car-finished/).)

For the freehand, I used a few light pencil marks as initial guides, then just took it slowly with the brush. I had to paint back into the shape a couple of places to tidy things up after the white went on, mind you.

The one on the armored car and the plane were the bigger ones. Right?

No, they're all freehand, no decals at all.

Did a few light pencil marks to establish the basic layout, then an off-white paint (Reaper Leather White, I think it was) with a OO brush, taking my time. I painted back in over the white with the base colour to clean up a few lines and to do some of the interior detail of the more complex skull on the SPAD.

REALLY small skull & Crossbones on this sheet by Fighting Piranha
I use them for 15mm SF shoulderpads.

I've ordered the Company B ones. If they are too large I'll try Fighting Pirhana ones.
