Title: alien life forms in 28mm
Post by: Grimrod on 08 December 2012, 11:37:16 PM
After purchasing Fantasic worlds and it's source book and taking advantage of Bronzeage minis sale,. I have decided to run my own scifi lost world  campaign..I am looking for alien  life form type predators, (I want more varitiey than just my meager dinosaur collection.)    So any ideas you folks have would  be appreciated.

Bipedal humanoids?    At first I thought you were speaking about "Not-Predators"  Then I wondered if you meant animalistic or intelligent non-humanoids?

Are you talking things like multi-legged lions, winged bears, and other such VSF-like creatures?

Or are you looking to avoid the  Earth redux look and want alternatives to mammals/Marsupials?

Sorry to be so slow but I am very tired tonight.

Gracias,

Glenn

Agree with Conq, you are very vague on what you're after. Beasties or bipeds? If bipeds, What kind of tech level?

Sorry about the vagueness of my post...beasties is what I am looking for. Going for a  death world hunting expedition theme.

Reaper has a nice selection of fantasy beasties that would work well for alien predators.  Go to http://www.reapermini.com/Miniatures/DarkHeavenLegends and have a look.  As an example, check out 03616 Tiik Warriors (they look like icythoids).  Other examples are 03609 Hell Hound; 03606 Devil Ray; 03603 Cthon; 03595 Mini Monsters; 02976 Astral Mauler, etc. etc.  Don't let the names or that they are "fantasy" miniatures put you off - some of these definitely look like alien beasts indeed.  Also, Reaper has have some pretty vicious pleistocene mammals (and not just the immediately identifiable ones, like 03570 Sabretooth Tiger).  Another possibility is to use some of the Cthuloo (sic?) mythos creatures made by (I think) RAFM.

The prepainted Star Wars range should have some cheapish large and small critters.

Heresy's Hellhounds are great, and the choice of heads allows you to change their look a lot.

You can check out "Assimilation Alien Host" minis from Kickstarter when they get released.

If you took on the Bronze Age "Barsoomian" beasties then the most obvious additions that come to mind would be Parroom Station's (http://www.parroom.net/parroomshowroom/v/Of_Mars_and_Martians/Crits/) and Tinman's (http://tinminis.com/) "Barsoomian" beasties.

Other than that, feel free to browse the following manufacturers (among others, those are just the ones that came to mind quickly) for at least some nasty critters each:

I'd love to have asked my wife that on our first date.  BTW, that is an awesome link.
