Title: Hungerford’s Lancastrian Retinue Complete
Post by: 15thpanzer on December 12, 2012, 07:34:23 PM: Evening all. Finally got round to finishing another batch of Lancastrians. Lord Hungerford’s retinue consisting of 10 fully harnessed, 10 bill and 20 bows. This puts finished Lancastrians at 200 foot, 50 mounted and a couple of field pieces. Work commitments been crazy lately so am moving slower than I would like. This, when time allows, will form the first element of a battle that will contain Somerset, Trollop and Devon. A kind of Second St Albans / Towton mash up. I added the Cotterall to his retinue because he’s from the area and I really liked his arms.

Post by: 15thpanzer on February 16, 2013, 03:04:15 PM: Afternoon all. Have finished another Lancastrian retinue to add to this battle. Somerset. 10 fully harnessed, 10 bill and 20 longbows. This still needs another 60 figs adding before it is battle ready. Already started on Trollops 30 and will finish with 30 of Devons. Have added some closer up shots that illustrate my quick, loose, but (I think) effective technique. Its certainly allowing me to motor through some figures at the moment. Cheers.

Have done them in 8 days as well as all the other mundane things life and work chuck my way. As mentioned earlier, these will have Devon’s 30 man retinue added (though I doubt so quickly) to complete the 140 man battle. Less bows in this bunch as I had ran out, but the order landed mid week so back up to strength of 20 archers for Devon. Cheers.

My aim is to paint a collection incorporating both sides. Each of my bases holds five figures which also makes adding them up easier (as I've planned to paint nearly 900). I figured so long as I stay consistent, the rules can be adapted to suit the collection. Cheers.

Exeters battle need another 40 men to make it 120 strong, while Northumberland will be getting another 60 (including pike) to take his to 140. These pics were on a previous thread but am mustering forces to one thread. Cheers.

That’s five roughly equal sized battles completed. Three Yorkist and two Lancastrian. Already got Roos contingent made up and undercoated so getting closer. Cheers all.

I did notice one interesting conversion in the rear rank, using the pike arms to make a bill man hold his bill horizontal at chest height. Must try that one out.

I am getting to the point where I paint these on autopilot, which is fine as it is a great way to switch off from the rat race. Once you have painted 400+ longbowmen the brush seems to know its own way about, while my brain engages with the latest audiobook offering (currently The Winter King).

Confession time now. I have never played a wargame in my life. I've been painting soldiers since I was eight but they have never, ever been used in anger. But, I have promised myself that once this collection is finished (hopefully this year) I shall be appealing to the great and good of this forum for assistance in righting that wrong.

Hello LR

I have planned for just over 900 figures. So far I have about 780 painted and based as in the pictures. I started collecting them the day the Perrys released the range. And I haven't stopped since! Cheers.

I can see a monster LAF WOTR game coming up somewhere in Central England in the not too distant future!
