Welcome to Bob & Drew's Excellent Fantasy Adventure thread! I'm Bob Faust author of Brink of Battle: Skirmish Gaming through the Ages. My brother in arms and 'First Prime' is Drew Davies. We are currently in process of play testing the Fantasy supplement to my rules called Epic Heroes: Skirmish Gaming in the Realms of Fantasy. We are also working on new demo tables and battle forces to play with these rules. We are going to use this thread to chronicle all of our progress on the miniatures and scenery as we ramp up to the release date next year.
In addition to pics of our minis and terrain, we will be listing out our forces in BoB terms so you can get a feel for the scope of the supplement. So, without further ado let us begin! :D
Drew & I spent the day at Fausthaus scraping plastic and metal to prep our newest skirmish bands. Drew has a guh-shitload of Wargames Factory Vikings, and I just bought a truck load of old Tom Meier Ral Partha figs off of ebay. We threw on the Fellowship of the Ring and prepped figs and watched the LOTR series all day. We saw the Hobbit last night and we are amped! :o
I'm building a group of adventurers who will be exploring the Ruins of Vanis-Trymno. Drew is working on some marauders from the Skaarsgard Mountains who will start out as normal warriors who disturb a crypt while raiding and become cursed. Later he'll have these same figures painted as a horde of Ghost Warriors who have come back from the dead to fulfill the terms of their curse! :o
Here are some snaps from my phone on our projects thus far:

Nice collection of figures. I'm looking forward to seeing some of them painted up.
-
And the figure I wanted to own again the most from Tom Meier's Ral Partha work
Looks awesome! What is he called?
-
Looks awesome! What is he called?
I think when I bought him back in '85 he was labled as an Anti-Paladin. He strikes me as some kind of Sword Mystic. For D&D he'd make a great Avenger.
For Epic Heroes I'll probably use him as some kind of a Sword Mystic badass. lol
-
Looks a similar concept to many other (and my own) fantasy projects here on LAF - grab what you have, paint and have fun. It's interesting that though the concept is similar they all turn out very different and have some fantastic styles amongst them (Mason, Deafnala, I'm looking at you two), so it'll be really interesting to see how this progresses.
Lovely stuff and a nice collection of minis to get started with.
Love this guy particularly:

What's his name?
Duncan
-
Thanks! I will definitely keep an eye out for him. Yes, much more Sword Mystic than Anti-paladin (not enough bat wings and skulls for that). The sculpting is ahead of its time.
-
With his head so deep inside that helmet and bevor he looks very Froudian and therefore cool!
-
An EXCELLENT Project! It's will be a pleasure following your progress. Keep up the GOOD WORK!

Glad y'all dig the project. It's all your fault anyway! lol
I can't hop on this forum without seeing some stonking good stuff and it does the inspirational trick! So I thank all of you for blazing the trail!
Tom Meier sculpted most of the ones I'm working on and he was indeed well ahead of his time. As I was just telling Drew the other day, Meier almost single handedly defined what D&D looked like on the tabletop. Between his work, and the art work of Willingham, Otus, Dee, Trampier, and Roslof, the 'fantasy' gaming genre was off to a great start.
I got them all primed yesterday and will start some painting tonight.
Stay tuned!
-
Good stuff and thanks Deafnala for the link. That mini really oozes character.
Duncan
-
Very nice selection there, Bob! =) Looking forward to see some lovely painting in this thread.
-
Thanks Phreed! You are one of the 'responsible parties' that inspired me to get this started! lol
-
I cannot wait to see how you paint up all those Ral Partha gems, I am a huge Partha geek and have most of those minis; they are mostly from their '3 stage player character series'.
These guys are from the 3 stage Rangers pack (01-316):

This guy is from the Paladin pack (01-320):
And finally this guy was from Partha's 'Player Characters' series and is a Wizard (02-355):
A wizard with a really big sword. Can't wait to see these guys painted up, I really like your painting style.
Cheers,
Damien
-
Thanks Damien! I was going to embark upon them tonight, but a migraine derailed my plans. Tomorrow night we're gaming the fantasy rules at our local shop The Launchpad.
So maybe friday I'll get some paint on them. I'll post WIP photos as I go.
I am so glad I plumped for these. They take me back 30 years.
-
We are progressing apace! Here are some shots of our primed cohorts. I've added some nekkid harem girls that we'll use for 'objective' markers (tongue firmly in cheek here). Drew's Vikings come Marauders are ready to go as well.

Been on vacation, and after spending the day watching Legend of the Seeker while typing up new fantasy rules for BoB, I decided to head down to my basement and slap a little more paint on these guys. I also took one of the Ral Partha thieves and added a bow to his left hand to turn him into a ranger.
Here are some snaps from my phone:

In this pic i recognize the middle guy but the left and right models i dont. Can you share their source please?
Also i know the figs you have been using. Had em all through the years. Infact, i had the majority of the 3 stage figs up till a couple of years ago.
Looking forward to your project completion. :-)

The one on the left is a Mega Minis figure sculpted by Werner Klocke. The one on the right is a Greanadier Chaos Warrior from their Fantasy Lords range. Looks like a possible Mark Copplestone sculpt.
Tom Meier's 3 Stage Player Characters were badass. It's a joy to slap paint on these.

Yes they are. My fav's are the Cleric w/ BFM and the plated warrior with the BFA in his hands and sword and board on his back.
I have wanted to do updated versions of those two figs to the "current" scale used to keep em in line. The original models are fantastic but underscaled for nowadays.
Thoughts on parts to use?
Grimm
-
I don't think there is much around these days that would be of comparable scale. I decided just to buy a bunch of Grenadier, Ral Partha, and early Citadel/Foundry figs that all scaled well together.
Happy hunting for bits!
-
So many fine old figs to paint, and so little time. =( I've been eyeing that Klocke chap from Mega. I really would like to put in a mega Mega order before John closes shop all together. Too much allready pulled from the shop though... =(

I don't actually recognize the middle chap myself - who's he?
-
@Phreed - Yeah, I was surprised to find that fig when looking through the Mega Minis shop. Thankfully, Drew turned me on to them and I picked him up and some very small Dwarves. The last time I checked the range was a bit thinned out.
@Fram- The guy in the middle is a Ral Partha 3 Stage Player Character model from Tom Meier. It was a definitive series that really set up some iconic sculpts that carried the PC through three phases of their careers. I'm using them all at the same time for my True-Bolds Fighting Company.
-
Great and eclectic mix of venerable miniatures you have there. It will be very cool to see 'em all painted.
-
Great to see older minis like these again and many are still available. For European buyers especially see
old Grenadier minis at http://www.mirliton.it/index.php?cName=fantasy-2528mm
and old Ral Partha minis at http://www.ralparthaeurope.co.uk/
a great source for Grenadier is also www.forlornhopegames.co.uk and they give you free mini vouchers when you buy.
-
Those are great links. I know Iron Wind is producing some of the Ral Partha line.
Here's a couple of snaps from today's work on the five fully armored fighters.

Should be done with these guys tomorrow. I have decided to make my Rangers from the Ramsgate Lodge, so I'll be using a stylized ram's head for their shield motifs. Gonna test drive some of these guys tonight for our Epic Heroes playtesting. Should be fun.
-
Hi Faust, man these guys are great! You have inspired me to paint up some knights (after seeing yours), I have three on the table at the moment; two Grenadier and one Partha (actually I'm painting the Partha knight you have with the big two handed sword). I can't wait to see yours painted up.
Keep 'em coming
Damien
-
Cool Damien, I can't wait to see your's too!
We played tonight and I used my True-Bolds as our control group to guage how they would fare with normal traits, etc. with the BoB main rules. The other guys played different groupings of Inborn and Prestige Traits, with some special race specific Gear thrown in as well.
Here's my Fighting Company getting their asses kicked in by Cody's Undead force. He had a Wraith Commander, 2 Vampyre Veterans with Great Cleavers, and some meat shield Zombies. He used Pathfinder's prepainted figures:

I forgot to mention that the Klocke foot knight has the word HONOR engraved into the back side of that two-handed sword. Pretty neat.

Looking forward to the Fantasy version.
Paul Scott has bought some of the Mega miniatures moulds and has started to release them.He has some of the Dwarves and Evil Knights too.Link to his Facebook page below.

You can also see some of the Dwarves on the Stunties site along with some new pieces Paul has had sculpted by the original sculptor of the Mega miniatures Dwarves.Kev Adams has done some pieces for him too.

Paul also designs games and the Stalagbites game is well worth a look and very cheap. My daughter loves it.It is not on the Rathbone games site yet but if you drop paul a message on facebook he should be-able to help out.

The dwarf on the far right is one that I picked up. The thing I love about that range is that they wear traditional WOTR era human-styled plate armor.

Yeah, they look better in person. Brian did a great job on them.

Hi guys, a new site for Midlam Miniatures will come along in mid-January, and all the figures and games (and even decent pics!) will be on there. At the moment, www.omnivistascope.com has a basic shop, but I can respond to any enquiries via e-mail.
My old job came to an end on Christmas Eve, so I'm going to be giving the miniatures and games a go full time (at least for a few months until I have to get back to work).
All the best
Paul

Thanks for posting that Paul. I may just have to round out those Dwarves in full plate. I love that they are anatomically proportioned correctly. You look at them and say, "I believe those Dwarves can walk." When other companies can make Dwarves that waddle.... lol

Ok, two more quick pics before finished pictures hopefully tomorrow.
Also managed to finish a Reaper Elf I owed Drew for trading me his Mantis warrior.

Well I guess I should be holding up the "Drew" end of the Excellent Fantasy Adventure.
Here are my two sets of Wargames Factory Viking Huscarls. They will be for the standard and cursed versions of my Skarsgard raiders.

Right now I am just working on the basecoat for each version. My plan for the cursed versions is to dirty them up and paint them with eldritch markings. I plan to dip these models once they are complete.

"I love that they are anatomically proportioned correctly. You look at them and say, "I believe those Dwarves can walk.""
There's room for everyone's ideal dwarf, but that's pretty much my sentiments too :)
-
Well, here are some finished figures for my True-Bolds Fighting Company for our Epic Heroes project.
I also finished an Elf Ranger/Fighter that I finally painted up for Drew.
I will do some reshoots of a few that came out blurry and were deleted. Plus I'll add their stats for Brink of Battle so you all can get a feel for where we're heading with the fantasy supplement.

Hey hey, I missed your latest post! All your knights look ace but I really like that knight with the plumes on his helmet best. I really like the bronze on the Partha knight, did you trim his base? Also, can you take another (bigger) pic of the massed knights? All you need now is a really big AAR with all these cool finished minis; post one up quick!
Cheers,
Damien

I did trim his base to resonably fit on my wooden 25mm rounds. The dude with the plumes and the Honor blade is a Werner Klocke sculpt from Mega Minis. Drew turned me on to them last year and I finally bought more Partha and early Citadel figures to match his scale.
I will get more photos up by the weekend. We have another dry run on playtesting our forces, and then will be running a 4 week campaign with full photos, AAR's, and force rosters.

Cracking bunch of adventurers there - love the ogre too 8)
-
The Lads painted up SUPER. Starhawk (sounds like an old Buick) & the Ogre are my favorites in the Group...nice job on the Elf's hair. VERY WELL DONE!
Are you using Lara's Wood Craft pieces for your bases? They were my bases of choice for quite some time.

Cracking stuff, all of it looks really good.

Thanks to all of you for the fine feedback.
@Damien, I just tried to super size the group shots and it didn't take. I have them in larger format on my Brink of Battle blog and on Steve Dean Forum here http://www.sdean-forum.co.uk/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=33173&p=377908#p377908
@DeafNeala - I don't recall the brand of rounds, but they are all pretty comparable.

My game gives a +25 Supply Point bonus to players who have fully painted forces with themes and names for their models. So, I build a force for thursday night's Campaign kickoff, and then realize I just put myself in a position to have to paint 4 new figs up by then! So here is what I'm bringin for the campaign. I've added some back story to the True-Bolds. The full write up will come later in the week. Basically its three brothers; Kaspar True-Bold is a Paladin, Kimble True-Bold is a Cleric, and Konrad True-Bold is a Ranger. They each have a sidekick that has travelled with them on their quest to find the lair of Doman Tu'Koth, an Diabolican Wizard who slaughtered their parents and now resides somewhere in the ruins of Vanis-Trymno.

And finally, here is a pic of the statues that I'm going to paint up for my Heroes Garden terrain feature.

Dammit man! I love these Partha miniatures! My favourites are the Cleric on the right and the Fighter (3rd from right with the axe), they have fantastic facial expressions. I can't wait to see these guys painted up to your usual standard.
Keep 'em coming

Always fun to see re-purposed Mage Knight minis too :D :D :D

Good catch Fram! lol I bought a pack of 10 unreleased Mage Knight figures at ConQuest Sac 2012. They are mostly too large in size to fit in with normal figures from my range, but will make great statues for my Heroes Garden terrain feature.

Alright, the True-Bolds are ready to start in our Brink of Battle fantasy campaign play test tonight! Here's a group snap to whet your appetites. More pics later, and tonights roster is posted below the pic.

Grimm

The Old Boys really painted up SPLENDIDLY...I especially like that Robed Rogue off on the far right. VERY WELL DONE!
-
Proper wicked.
-
Those True-Bolds look fantastic, as I stated above, I really like that Cleric, he has to be one of my favourite "holy man" sculpts. You did a great job on all the minis but the purple robe on the Cleric and the red cloak on the ranger are amazing.
Keep it up,
Damien

Thanks guys! Here are some more of the whole True-Bold force. Also some shots of them pitted against my old Mordheim warband the Lords of Entropy and then some shots against my Warthorne Tempest for Brink of Battle.

Absolutely beautiful pics, Faust. I particularly love the way you've made the colours rich and vibrant without being garish. |That takes a sensitive eye for colour and composition, of which I'm really quite envious.
-
Excellent painting and use of vintage lead. Seeing stuff like this reminds me of my I love fantasy gaming so much! A quick question: those Ral Partha minis, would you say they're on the small (true) side of 28mm? I use Ral Partha Europe a lot for gribblies, but have never bought 'human size' models from 'em and am interested to know. Thanks!

Thanks Garanhir. I have a resistance to garish. :D I have a tendency to err on the side of realism.

I find the original Tom Meier scupts are very True 25mm. I bought a shitload of them because they didn't scale right when compared to modern sculpts. However, looking at the Citadel Wood Elves I posed them with you can see that the old Citadel stuff is very close in scale. Good thing I bought a shitload of them too! lol
I think Gamezone's figures would scale ok with this early Partha and Grenadier stuff.
-
SUPERB! That is a GREAT mix of BEAUTIFULLY painted & based minis. They look SO GOOD together. WONDERFULLY WELL DONE!
-
Those are minis to be proud of, it feels like just last week that they were bare metal; you are a machine! What I really like about your painting is all the vibrant colours; from the metals to the cloths.
Great stuff,
Damien
-
Thanks guys! Glad you enjoy them. And yes Damien, I have stayed on target these past few weeks and plan on adding more guys in the near future.
Here is each figure front and back after many hours of mucking about with my Paint program.

Once I get the stats, I'll post the forces we played Brink of Battle's fantasy rules with last week.
-
All of them look really good. Dig the purple on the cleric.
-
Thanks. He's my favorite cleric ever I think.

Those are some fine minis! I'm looking forward to seeing some battle reports with the new Epic Heroes rules. I've picked up Brink of Battle for my own fantasy project, and eagerly await their release.

He was billed as a Citadel Bretonnian Dogs-of-War model from '85 but didn't show up anywhere on a GW/Citadel solict of any kind. I later saw him in the Foundry WOTR pack here http://wargamesfoundry.com/historical_ranges/single_packs/medieval/wars_of_the_roses/armoured_infantry_attacking_med105/?sector_id=
Had I known that, I'd have paid the 18 bucks to get 8 models instead of the 25 bucks for this one model. And what makes him even more fun is that Buckler's get proper treatment in Brink of Battle, so they are more than just a small shield; they help you on the attack as well. Getting punched in the gob by a metal dish ain't no kinda fun. lol

Thanks for your business Magnus! Be sure to friend 'Bob Faust' on facebook to get included in the Brink of Battle group there.
Be sure to download the Epic Heroes 'ashcan' free Fantasy rules from Wargame Vault as well. :)

He looked like an old Citadel mini to me ;)
Think most of Foundryies Medieval ones are old Citadel sculpts.
Will try to hunt one down, so, if any of you gents out there has one to share, please let me know :D
-
Thanks for that.

He's definitely a Perry sculpt IMO. It had 1985 stamped on the tab but no identifier as to company.
-
Bloody nice, mate! I really like how your purple is shaded with a dark purple, and not black (like I do). What approach do you use, it is quite effective. Seems like you use washes and tinting quite a bit?
-

I have the other guy with the Sword and Buckler, which is also included in the Foundry blister, and he's marked with "GW", as some of the other retainers I have as well.
So, I guess the same goes for yours ;)

Thanks Phreed! I use inks and quite a bit of blending. I've thinned my paints for over 30 years and it makes all the difference when blending up highlights and working with cloth as well as flesh tones.
I have an arm injury that limits the length of time I can hold the miniature, so once I'm done with the inking and highlights, I apply some Army Painter Strong Tone dip to give it a uniform shell with a bit of contrast. Once that has cured over night I spray a flat coat over it and then daub in some gloss on a brush for the shiny bits.

Here's some shots of the forces we were playtesting with last week. The stats for them haven't been sent to me yet, so I'll post them when they arrive from the other players.
First up is Drew's High Elves. Since Epic Heroes and Brink of Battle are both designed for players to custom build their own forces, Drew has created a back ground for his elves that is part of the growing Epic Heroes home setting. This is the Wind Song Harmony.
Next up we have Kris' Wood Elves. Her background has her Elven tribe finding what they thought were dead dragon eggs that later hatched. The elves raised them and now they fight as heavy weight guardians of their woodland home.

Brian Payne bought some Ex Illis figures and repurposed them for his Fallen Angels force. He's using the Extraplanar (Diaboli) Inborn Trait on most of them. I have to find where I put the pics of the whole force, but for now just feast your eyes on his Commander model.
I need to find Matt's Demonic Monster force pics too. I'll post those later.
Next we have Chris' Dwarves.
And here are Cody's figures. He is using Pathfinder figures for Drow Vampires and their zombie lackeys.

Thanks bro. I buy the 25mm round craft wood from Michaels, Joann's, or Hobby Lobby. I stopped using the rounded edge and went to the squared edges for easier handling. The brands of craft wood vary between stores.

Nice work Damien - I'd go as far as saying those paint jobs are sumptuous :P

Weeeeeell, I've been a busy bastard of late. It feels like forever since I posted anything. Day job has been keeping me hopping.
I sooooo badly want to show you all what we're working on for ConQuest Sacramento April 5-7th. Soooo badly. But I can't until our big reveal at the con.
I will finish up the 3 figures that went with this set and put up some pics. I promise. lol
-
Cool - I just may have to make it there, then.
-
You won't be disappointed, I promise!
-
Put some pics up already! (Its not like you have a job or probably a wife or a ton of things to get ready for the con, or just plain life kicking you in the nuts; put up some pics for me lol ).
Take your time, ;) I am sure that you are incredibly busy as it is.
Cheers,
Damien

If I did, Drew would kill me. Just drink a Coke and relax, cuz we gotta finish more for it to be worth seeing. ;)

Really nice paint jobs!!!!!

Thanks :D

Hi gang! It's been awhile since I posted here. Drew & I have been working on a secret project for the Epic Heroes Fantasy expansion for Brink of Battle.
We are now finished with the project and ready for its unveiling this weekend at ConQuest Sacramento!
So, here are some WIP pics I took while we were sketching out the Ruins of Vanis-Trymo, a fantasy city from my Epic Heroes official setting.
Comments & questions are always welcome. :D
After much deliberation, I finally settled on what components I wanted for the board. I wanted a Big Ass Wall, a Wizard's Tower, a Kthonean Temple, a Hero's Garden, and a water feature, more like a canal system. Not much to ask for in one 4'x4' space is it? lol
Since I have trouble seeing what I write after the text box fills up here, I'll post the pics as separate entries.

We just got back from a cruise to Jamaica and the Grand Caymans. It confirmed that what Drew & I built was spot on accurate.
More pics over the next few days.

Here are some more progress shots of the Kthonean Temple. I used wedding cake pillars, faux tile, foam core, plastic roofing from a California Missions pack, and a piece of jewelry I found at Hobby Lobby.

My Wife's friend saw it and asked if I used an oxidizer on the patina for the roof. I replied, naw, acrylic paint.... lol
-
Hey Faust, loving that temple, adding the octopus was inspired though, very Cthulhuesque.
Cheers,
Damien
-
Yeah, I found those pieces when walking through the jewelry isle at Hobby Lobby. I have one on the front and back.
In my Epic Heroes setting, the worshippers of the Fell Powers and Elder Gods are an evil race of aquatic shark, squid, & fish men called the Kthoneans.
This is one of their temples built during the Corruption of Vanis-Trymno.
More to come soon. We're at ConQuest today and will be posting more pics tonight.
-
Very cool, can't wait.
Damien
-
That temple is looking great, I love the tile for marble floor idea. Nice work.
-
Thanks guys. Here are some pics of the finished table from our set up at ConQuest this past weekend.

Here's another shot of the whole board. The Ruins of Vanis-Trymno are sometimes visited by the floating Towers of Te-M'Karna, which flit through the nether realms powered by veins of STARMETAL!!!
lol
-
Wow this is some serious terrain building! There is so much detail here, I am really liking the river (moat?) it is really well executed; shit I like everything! The moss and vines really tie everything together and makes everything look abandoned and old. The brown towers are straight out of 'The savage sword of Conan' comics.
Fantastic work, I hope the convention was a success,
Damien
-
That is a great looking table. I'm working on migrating my group over to BoB for the majority of our skirmishing games, and I think once the Fantasy supplement hits it will be a much easier sell. Between BoB Fantasy and the Arena Rex minis, I really have no good reason to delay building a table now. Thanks for some inspiration.
-
Thanks guys!
@Damien, we'll get some better photos of the board and its components soon. The towers are actually a dark red, but in that pic it looks brown.
@hjorhrahn, glad to help in the inspiration department. Am back to working feverishly to give you the best fantasy supplement you could imagine. :)
We will also be releasing some 'how to' videos showing the ins & outs of BoB. That might also help convert some new players.
-
The Game Table is SPECTACULAR, A CINEMATIC TREAT! VERY WELL DONE!
-
Thanks DeafNala. It sure took a lot of doing! lol

Man, what a great table, a lot of imagination, skill and work here. Even if you gave me the material and the time to craft something like this I wouldn't know where to start.
Great pics,
Damien
-
Thanks Damien!
I've been knee deep in work and family stuff of late. I did manage to snap this pic to share. It's not the best photo and I still need to Boberize the base to my signature look. I just got a second one of this guy at a flea market so I've decided they'll become armed escorts to a command figure of some sort.

Ah, an old Ral Partha 3 stage player character 'Paladin'. You really did him justice, he looks good. Post up another pic of his shield when you get the chance.

The Old Boy is LOOKIN' GOOD...it's good to see someone who is kind to Old Minis. GREAT WORK as always!
For some reason or other, the first & third stages of the minis never seemed to get painted. It had something to do with advancement I'm fairly sure.

I really like the blue on Jacobi's scabbard. That truly spiced an old-scoop mini up nicely. The contrast between the green and red on that robe is great though. I wouldn't have thought of it, but now I'm just looking for a figure that needs it. Very cool.

Actually, a funny thing about the 'red' is that it looks red in this pic, but is actually a warlock purple/magenta color with heavy purple ink glaze. Once I hit the gloss coat with matte spray they all went from their magenta look into a dark purple, then on to more reddish tones when uploaded.
:D
-
Fantastic job as usual. The Kthonean's are simply great. Really like the colors you used on them. Sir Jacobi looks good as well but like the shield the most.
-
I like the choice of colour palette as well. The depth of colour on the reds and the purples up against the more vibrant green really gives this that "otherwordly" feel the sculpts need.
-

Thanks, I did a free hand on it and still don't like it. Glad you do Imp! :D
Thank for the kind feedback to all of you. I'm putting up a gob more in a few minutes.

Had some time with my camera set up and the new figs we've been using with our new terrain for the Epic Heroes supplement to Brink of Battle.
Here's the Kthonean cult worshipping their dark god, as well as some mock battle scenes for your eye candy enjoyment!

Thanks Funghy! These are all examples of what you can do with the Brink of Battle skirmish game, and its forthcoming fantasy supplement Epic Heroes. You can find more info on our website at www.brinkofbattle.com
I'm striving to give creative gamers a bigger toolbox for their imaginations, while also granting players who like a particular fantasy background from other games the ability to translate those settings into my system.
I will keep these pics and projects coming. Drew's warband for our demo table will be the next batch of photos.

The in action pictures are great. Is BOB scaless? in the sense you could use 15's with them?

It's meant for 20mm up to 54mm. However, if you can make it work, go for it! Determining Line of Sight might be harder at 15mm, but there's nothing stopping you from doing that rules wise.

Hello Bob,
What an inspiration! All those pics are out of this world amazing, though every mini is painted to your usual standard, it is the fantastic marble effect that really grabs me :o; the entire temple is spectacular due to the effect.
Cheers,

Thanks! I'm pretty happy with how the marbling effect turned out too. I used a faux tile piece as the base and it had a mild marble look. Then I added brown & green splotches to enhance the effect.
-
This temple looks too and too cool. Wonderfully painted miniatures as well! This looks like a lot of fun. I love the pic of the priest in front of the golden idol. There is a serene if maybe morbid atmosphere to that picture.

Some quality stuff recently Bob! Good job on the temple! The aberrations look odd, but nicely painted. The models are almost like fantasy versions of tyranid models. Especially the grick (are they grick?) and grell (same here... grell? or just brains on crab legs? =) The ilithid looking boss guy is cracking, agree on the purple and green combo. Quality stuff!

Wow! Time flies. It has been a busy couple of months since my last post. We have been painting, play testing, writing rules, play testing, and painting.
Drew & I have done some play testing of new rules for Invisibility for Epic Heroes. Here are some snaps that will tide you over until our next big thing, which should be our 'how to' video. Keep your fingers crossed on that one. lol
We played one game in Period 1 with an Epic Legend Level which allowed for Drew's 3 Invisible Ninjas and one visible Ninja Archer running up on the wall. We used my True-Bolds adventuring band as the opposing force. We then switched things up and I ran my Period 3 Cowboys up against his Invisible Ninjas. We got some great playtest results and will definitely have them ironed out for the finished supplement. The Cowboys vs Ninjas pics were shite, so I haven't included them here.

Who makes the Spartan looking guy with the two swords? That is a super collection of figures and terrain that you have there. Its very inspirational. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks Chuck! That would be Jagger Kilmane, Father of Sorrows. I used the Reaper half-orc thief with the hooded head removed. I then added the Corinthian helmet from their hat/helmet sprue, and finished him off with 2 Har-Ganeth Executioner blades that I shorted. Glad you like him. :D

Well, here's a twist on our project. I grabbed my scenery and Mighty Fortress from GW and then ended putting all 91 painted fantasy or fantasy compatible figures on the board. Each pic tells a story. Here are a few, but you can see the rest at my miniatures blog Figures by Faust located here http://4sparta.blogspot.com/

So we had the Big Gunz guys down from Sacramento this past Saturday to playtest the new Fantasy rules for Brink of Battle.
Unfortunately, I took few pictures as I was having a great day with hot dice and was a little to focused on playing and discussing rules balance than taking photos. Here's the brief run down with the pics I did take. lol
The warbands were as diverse as you could ask for. Me and Alan were the only two that had unpainted forces, so we had to for go the 25 point Theme Bonus the other guys had. Here's who played what:
Mark McDaniel had Dwarves. Great force build and some really neat figures from a range I wish he could recall. :D
David DuJordan had an Adventuring Party. This is a type of warband/force that I've held as my special project in the design of the rules. I'd love for a player to build basically his own D&D or Pathfinder adventuring party and be able to play with them in BoB. Dave had a great force with one of my favorite Traits: Henchman. And yes, you get a theme bonus if you've named them by Henchman Number too. So he had Henchmen 1-3 on hand.
Aaron Morneau used his Skaven figures to play a Ratskins list. He used one of my other unique Traits: Tunneler. That's right, you can have models burrow up from underground to grab objectives or get behind enemy lines. Those rules worked out really well until I whacked his Rat Ogre. :D
Alan Washburn went with a force made up from Bones monster figures including a female Giantess. He had some great figures but also had some bottlenecking on the town tabletop because his Monstrosity's (Giant) base took up some prime real estate.
Drew Davies was our 'control' group using his Wargame Factory Vikings as raiders from Skaarsheim in the Epic Heroes setting Lost Empires of Arkantys. One of the best parts of having rules that allow for ANY models to be used is that your creativity is only limited by your figure inventory. lol
I had a special type of force I built using the Ral Partha Wizard with Runesword figures that I'm so damn obsessed with. I made up a Secret Order for the Lost Empires background and wanted to give them a test drive using my Ral Partha and Grenadier minis. Unfortunately, I'm doing so much writing that I'm not painting, but that should hopefully change soon.
The background I came up with was for a Secret Society that stood watch over the Prime Material Plane and protected its inhabitants from incursions from the Etheric Realm. So they guard against Ghosts, Spirits, Specter's, Wraiths, etc. Most of their Order are Knights Etheric and Wraithstalker archers. The elite of their order are the Eidolon's, warriors who are masters of the blade and have the ability to shift into the Etherium and battle creatures that have access to that realm. They usually travel in 3's or Triptychs. Fun, fun, fun.

That looks like a SPLENDID gaming session...brings back ancient basement memories.
-
What great stuff you have. And the tables look absolutely fabelous. This hobby is such good fun.
-
That looks like so much fun! I like your multi-table set-up. And the smiles on everyone's faces :D
The varying heights of the houses and streets really make for interesting visuals. Is that for aesthetics or gameplay?
Thanks!
Jevenkah

Thanks gang! I'm glad you like it.
The variations in height are something I really liked about Mordheim, and since I wrote Brink of Battle to use small warbands of individual models I wanted to keep that feel. We have rules for Climbing and Jumping as well as shooting from elevated positions, etc.
The entire tabletop becomes part of the strategy of the game when there are varied levels and spans.
As for the smiles all around, well, we have a great time with great friends. We don't waste our time with negative people who need to win at all costs. And I provide Twinkies. It's hard not to smile when you eat Twinkies.....

It is an attractive illustration. However, my first glance impression was War Hammer...the Warrior Priest, Wizard, & Chaos Guy just look like G.W. concept art. Of course that could just be moi.

Duly noted! However, the guy on the left is my Half-orc gladiator captain Jagger Kilmane, Father of Sorrows. The guy in the middle is Brother Judge, Chaplain of the Champions of Jusice Knightly Order, and the wizard is Ghedakuur Darklock, one of my earliest D&D characters.
In fact, all three are former D&D characters I've created. lol

That is quite an assortment of VERY COOL minis. I remember the Angel from a long time ago. GREAT WORK!

Thanks 'Nala. I'm very interested in reviving the Old School Metal that got us all through the 70's & 80's. lol

Great stuff!
Thats cheered up a cold morning at work (along with me coffee)
Really nice work a good selection of well painted minis.
-
WOW! You have been UBERBUSY! That is quite an array of BEAUTIFULLY painted & based creations...there will be some pleasant staring & admiring in my future. VERY IMPRESSIVE & WELL DONE!
-
Thanks guys. We cranked out just over 260 figures in under 6 weeks. It was nuts and awesome at the same time! We had to get them done for the Epic Heroes supplement. Some of these pics made it into the book while others I'll keep adding to the blog and here.
-
wow those miniatures are beautifully painted, haven't you done a lot too, particular struck with the purple. :D

Thanks Dodge. It's interesting that you mentioned the purple. It turns out to be the one color I love and simultaneously have the most trouble photographing. I have to manipulate the saturation and warmth in Paint in order to have it look like it does IRL. Damn frustrating! :)
One of my personal goals this year is to learn more about how to take better pictures of my stuff than I do now.
-
That's a whole bunch of awesome right there. Lots of varied minis and all in excellent paint. I'm particularly fond of the Centaurs (something you don't see enough of). Very cool ----you can cover a lot of bases with those figs.

Thanks Elbows. We're pretty happy with the diversity and originality of both the Old School Iron Wind/Ral Partha figs, as well as the Bronze Age and Lead Adventure minis that have the same type of unique character.
