I've been watching Cadfael lately, so I thought I'd paint up one of Black Tree design's "Brothers of Shrewsbury abbey (!)" as the man himself. Here it is:

That's because Cadfael was played by Derek Jacobi, who also played Yana.

Definitely worth reading, without a doubt. You might experience some disconnect though, as some of the episodes were adapted with, how can I put it, a less than respectful attitude to the original stories? The later episodes, when the author was safely dead, were particularly bad at this. The earlier ones stayed pretty close and always kept at least the spirit of the story intact.
The casting of Derek Jacobi in the first place was to my mind an odd decision; the original description of Cadfael has him as a classic "black celt", all dark hair and eyes, a nut-brown complexion from an outdoor lifestyle, a barrel-like build and a sailor's roll that he never quite lost. I always pictured him more like John Rhys-Davies.

I liked the books much better than the show, but I read them before I saw any of the episodes. This is not to say that I disliked the series, but it occasionally jarred when the script differed from the book. And of course, I had already formed mental images of the cast; when they didn't match, it was a little disconcerting.
Not that I'm hidebound or anything.

Love him, makes a change to men-at-arms.

Great work...any chance you could let us know how you did the flesh and where those nice leaves come from?
-
I enjoyed the books, but I enjoyed the radio series with Phillip Madox more than the TV show. I always felt that Derek Jacobi was too lightweight after both reading and listening to the radio program.
Great figure - and well painted.

Thanks guys!

Thanks. I painted his skin by mixing GW's elf flesh with a little mournfang brown, painted the basecoat of the flesh with it, and I then highlighted it up to pure elf flesh. I then washed it with reikland fleshshade and re-highlighted it with elf flesh again. The leaves are from bascrafts, they've got leaves in all sorts of colours.

Nice paintwork, I especially like the rob, great coloring!
I've seen most of the series and read a few books, I enjoyed them both.
