The Peak District is a unique stretch of hills dividing the two big urban areas of the North, Manchester and Sheffield. Depending on who holds the two areas, the Peaks could be an excellent campaign area as one side fights the other for control of the mountain passes. There were only two real roads between the cities, and these cut through inhospitable terrain.

The Peaks themselves would have been held by reactionary forces.

This link takes you to a very comprehensive "People's History of Derbyshire". The chapters on the interwar period must have something of interest;
