Title: Big Trouble in Miniature China!
Post by: Hecate on December 28, 2012, 10:38:21 PM
Hi All,

I am new to the forum, and to break in my new membership I thought I would share some of my newly painted pulp figures

I love Chinese and Hong Kong cinema, particularly martial arts movies and for some time I have been wanting to put together a collection of miniatures and scenery for a Pulp Gaming Chinatown.  I finally got around to painting my figures, most of which are from Bob Murch's range that I picked up over the last few Historicons.

All in all I think they turn out rather well -- I had a great deal of fun with the free hand styling!

I hope you like them!

Beautiful paint work.
I picked up these figures second hand last year and they've been waiting in the wings. I hope I can do them justice like these.
Cheers.

Welcome to LAF! Fantastic paint jobs, I love all of Mr. Murch's sculpts and you really did them justice. They all look great but I love the skin tones, the advisor's robes and the villagers best.

Great stuff and keep posting

Thanks all for the warm welcomes and kind words!  It's very much appreciated.

I am so happy you like them, I have a few more to post later (some more of Bob's work and a couple of others).   One day I might even get around to some more scenery building!  :-*

Thanks again!

Beautiful paint job on all of them.

My Mandarin is bit rusty so what does it say on the scroll?

Thanks again!

Well lets see... it says "squiggle squiggle doodle jot squiggle squiggle Jackie Chan doodle jot"

My Mandarin is a little rusty too!   ;)

Although the gong does say Red Dragon  :)

I managed to read the gong part right, but it's been years since I have used (as in read or spoke) Mandarin, so that's why the question. Even with the squiggle text, splendid job.

I am flattered, but overworked at this moment in time so unfortunately I don't really do commissions.   Although if that ever changes I'll let everyone know!  :)

Your freehand is lovely. Top work all round.

My Hasslefree gaisha is a box waiting for some companions to make a gang. Quality sculpt.

Do you have Xuifang by reaper? She's a cracking Chinese lady with a shooter. Should fit in nicely.

Hecate, care to share with us what kind of paints do you use for chinese skin color? (was that politically incorrect? I don't know anymore...)

Sure!  I use a Game Color's Beige Red and Reaper's Buckskin Pale mix then varying levels of shades (by mixing with black) and highlights (by mixing with white)

Hope that helps :)

Thanks a bunch! Could you recommend a Vallejo or Citadel paint to replace the Buckskin Pale? Those are the only brands available in my neck of the woods (Hungary :)

Also being a huge fan of HK martial art films this is exactly the kind of project I have been working on in the past 6 months, but still couldn't find a satisfactory combination of paints for painting chinese skin :)

I don't know a name for an alternative, but this is the color --

I did look at the conversion chart for Vallejo and you may want to check out MC Flat Yellow or GC Gold Yellow, though its hard to tell looking on a monitor :)

I hope that helps and good luck!

So fantastic. The Black Lotus and the Ninjas are my favourite - what a league for Pulp Alley! I've seen a few Kung-Fu movies and, I have to be honest, I think those ninjas are about to enter a world of hurt!
